i used to have an L7 15 like your describing and it would make a sound almost like it was bottoming out.. before i could figure out what that was i noticed one of the tensil leads had broken off.. i fixed it plenty of times but it always came back off a few weeks later.. even the solo x 12 i first had was an 04 and it did the same thing.. kicker made the newer subs come with longer tinsel leads so the problem doesnt happen any more.. ive never seen a recone for an L7 but even if there was youd prolly have the same problem come up.. id get something else...

i couldnt imagine why you would need 2 solo x 18s for daily. just use one in a huge box and strap the 2 aqs together.
only paid 500 bucks for 2 solo x 18s. i couldnt pass it up...
You'll need a lot of room if you're looking for a lot of low-end output. It won't be an easy feat in that little Cavi.
i cant really describe the space i have with measurements. if i could only get my pics to load on here.. its more of a wagon than a sedan now.lol
Do you have a H/O alternator, or plan to get one to support that 4.5kw?
not just yet but i do plan to buy one if i get this wall to work out..

ill def brace it up tight.. i dont want to half ass it im already puttin more money in it than i want.. but ima do what i have to do to get it loud enough.. ive went through so many subs and amps trying to find the loud i want.. so maybe these will do the trick.. ill hit them both up on ideas for a wall.. thanks for the helps guys

wall it, get a design from ray.
i need to know who ray is.. lol then i will get right on it..
-
im thinking about it.. i usually use partical board but i always destroy it with my subs.. so i got 3 sheets of birch in the garage for this project.. so if i do another wall and it doesnt sound good thats 45 dollars a sheet down the drain

I think 2 18 solo x's in the car would definately need to be walled off to have enough airspace
Ive done a wall before in this car and couldnt get it to sound good at all. almost felt like it was free air rather then in a wall.. im not sure if i tuned it wrong or if i made it too big
-
im leaning torwards 12 cubes having the subs up and port up.. the subs would be right behind me and the port would be facing up at the back window instaed of the port being inside the trunk..

ok so im doing a new build in my 4 door 2001 cavalier. to start it off i will tell you what i have and the goals i have.. ive got the big 3 done 1 yellow top under the hood one in the back 2 aq2200's and 2 dual 2 ohm solo x 18s. this will not be for comps. just plain loud and low bass... my car has no rear deck no back seats no carpet from drivers seat back.. all metal and opened up.. where the back seat was i can go as wide as 46 inchs and as tall as 36. imbetween the A-pillers and to the rear of the trunk i can go as wide as 35 inches and as tall as 17 inches.. from trunk to my back i can go around 55 inchs.. i have a lot of room as you can see but ive never got it to sound the way i want... any one got suggestions on size and tunning for me.. or stuff like port back subs up which directions would be best....
p.s doing a wall isnt on the menu...

im thinking of a change in mind...i went to a local daler here in ky and i can get a bnib treo ssx 18 for 500 out the door with a 3 year in store warranty.. he said if i blow coils or anything bring it back and replace it for free....
he says they will get louder than the solo x 18s will.. has anyone had experience with this sub
was in extreme autosound?
yea it was... i got a few things from them last year for casper so i went to get wires from them today and took a look as subs and he was tryin to help me out..

You don't have the room for either, so I wouldn't do either one. 7.76ft^3(assuming single layer 3/4" all around) before displacements isn't going to cut it for either woofer.
im doing one or the other... ive had a x 18 before and it had plenty of room... just seeing what you all thought of the ia dp 21.. never heard one in person

I have a big decision to make. I can get them both for the same price shipped. I will have space for a box up to 30x30x18 in my 01 cavalier. planned to go around 40 hertz. My amp is a cerwin vega s2000.1. 1 ohm stable I have 2 yellow tops batteries total. no big 3 yet. It will be for daily and a few numbers here and there. I want it to have deep lows but still get some higher bass but at the same time not get sloppy. Any help is thanked...

ok so i cut some of the back of the back off.. didn't even seal it up yet just threw the subs back in afterwords and it pounds.. after port sub and bracing displacement its 7.3 cubes now...
still need to seal the wall off around the front and as well as inside the box box around the back..
-
go seal it off, all the way around the box, and let us know if it sounds better, wait about a hour or 2 to make sure the stuff is super hard... before playing..
in reality you can prob just wait about 30 min, but there might be alot of pressure
my only concern still is that 10 cubes is big for the 2 xls...
-
is it sealed off around the box yet? if not thats the issue
the inside cracks were done with fiberglass resin and the outside of it was done with construction adhesive...
beleive me its sealed..
ive done a box before for 2 15 inch mtx 9500s and it sounded the same as this wall
after i cut that box smaller resealed it and adjusted the port it pounded...
only thing is adjust the size of a walled up box is a bit harder..
No he didnt mean if your box was sealed,he meant is your wall sealed (there are no gaps on the top/bottom/or either side of the wall that will let air get behind the wall).Understand?
told ya i was still new to it.. answer is no its not... theres still some work to do then.. thanks for clueing me in i had no idea it needed to be done....
-
you remeasured, did you take into account the bracing and port after you remeasured?
and like n8 said, if you didnt seal off the box from behind it, its probably getting into your trunk and shit and it has to pressurize the whole car instead of just the front cabin
x2 on everything, but damn, not even as loud as his old box in the trunk??? something´s wrong there!
yes i did even still i just fell that the enclosure is too big...
the recommended ported is 3.5 to a sub.... should i add that together since i have 2.. or put it around 5 to be safe..
this is my fist wall so im still learning as i go...
-
how big is the port
the port is w=22 h=5.5 d=17 almost a hole cube its about .87 of a cube

just finished mounting the subs and the port... sounds like the box is too damn big.... i remeasured and im looking at almost 10 cubes.. so i need to do some shrinking down to 5 or 6 then more tunning and hopefully it will work... it sounded better in a box in my trunk then it does currently ...
almost like its free air= too much space

If you are going for numbers, port on drivers side. If its a daily setup port at the top. Its what ive mostly seen on other setups.
well see its going to be daily maybe twice a year on comps... i just have never heard a wall so i have no idea were the port should be put for what im looking for... im cuttin the holes in the morning.. ill most likely do drivers side...
-
Im in need of help on decision making...
I just finished my wall in my car heres the details
2001 cavalier
2 dc xl 15's
8.4 cubes after dis.
going to be tuned right around 36 hertz
thats were i need help
before i cut the holes for subs and port i need some opinions on which setup to do
one sub behind each headrest and port in the middle of subs, above the subs, or below the subs..
also maybe putting one behind passenger headrest one in the middle and the port at drivers headrest which is personally the one ive heard is the best for TL numbers
any opinions are helpful thanks in advance

well i'd like to see how those amps were set then. I bought my Aq3500.1 off a guy who had an spl wall setup and burped 2 AQ HDC3's with copper coild on a pair of strapped @ 1ohm AQ3500.1bds
just saying copper will be more musical too your not running to much power
also you did state this was for spl.. obviously for daily the more motor force and motors to spread the power out the better usually
im still obviously undecided on any sub and amp combo im gonna do.. this thred did do some help as well as what youve been saying.. if you had 1000 to spend on just sub and amp what would you get.. that is preety mush my range give or take a few
-
why? copper is stronger for spl the aluminum coils would be better for high power music setups. they disapate heat faster then copper
you tell me what you think... i will be using this setup daily but will also be doing a few comps here and there just for the fun.... i dont want to do a recone 2 month after i buy the sub i was told and have seen on forums people say copper aq's burn up with just 1500rms.. but im still learnin so help a brotha out
need an amp 1000 at 1ohm
