  1. You need concrete just return the deck blocks and get some bags of quick crete it is a hazard to do it with just deck blocks hell it might even be cheaper to use concrete and a lot safer in the end also

    I WANTED to use crete , but when i put the real deck up next year , itll just save time , and shes going to want what i put up tomorrow to just be her mini landing on the other side of the house, this is just a pain in the ass really , just tryin to nickle and dime everything, i told her for about an xtra 40-50 bux it will be done right and safe, but no , she s pinchin them pennies..

  2. id do that if it were not off the groung so much, its weird ive so many decks from $1 - $15 k and im having a damn issue with this 100 dollar pos freestand... idk man im just gonna do a crossbrace on the back and on the inside ( that will be closest to the house ) and lock the stairs up and crossbrace the stringers .. its only temp for the winter and its a trailer so im sure it ll be fine

  3. well im laid off work so now im off to side jobs... Bult tons of decks , but none freestanding 4 feet off the ground.. All have been ledgered to the house and post/beam on the rim... So now this lady wants a 4'x4' platform with stairs.. my only concern other than height is will it be stable with just the 4x4 posts sitting on deck blocks? its very uneven soft ground.. wouldnt be an issue if i could just crossbrace the posts but for some reason she doesnt want that .. bottom line.. a lil square 4x4 platform about 4 feet off the ground, best way to be stable?

  4. Well I'm finally sick of my Verizon service. I now no longer have service on my blackberry at my own house or anywhere north of it until the next state for that matter. So I'm looking at the smartphones at&t offers and am pretty interested in a few. I want the blackberry bold but it's pretty pricey. I like the way the blackjack II looks but are there any other suggestions out there?

    i have the BJ 2 .. it takes a beating i tell u that been dropped in snow, puddles toilets dropped , thrown etc still kickin after a year.. but its not as " entertainment" as a blackberry .. so business like.. BB has so many settings for ppl under 80 its sick, lol i dunno if u can try it out for 30 days or whatever att gives u... I actually traded my i phone for the bj 2 just due to MMS sending, since u cant send or receive pics or vids normally thru text.. nor does it even have a video recorder.. but another neg about the blackjack 2 is it seems to freeze up , takes forever to delete things.. Even b4 all the damage its really slow and att s 3g sux ass .. even not on the 3g network just scrolling has lag ... go w the bold man

  5. Thats a nice choice if you like the Samsungs as much as my family does you will like Samsung alot it all really comes doen to how much money you want to spend

    Yea man its ALOT tougher than i thought .. not just throwing out 2k for a tv but to find the best one for that amount .. shit id love to have a pioneer elite plasma or a xbr8 but i just cant do it , and there are soooooooooooo many options and different reviews on every tv in the 2k range its sick.. If it wasnt for that panasonic plasma and i was all for lcd it woulda been between the samsung 6 series, the LG 7 series and the sony w series ( woulda bout sonys Z series if it came in a 52 hands down but its only up to a 46 :( nomatter what im gonna be happy with it, Should i actually pay for a calibration , or are there places online where u can find it for a specific tv

  6. we finally have a winner .. FINALLY lol , 2 months later :) after about as much research as a person can do , with multiple 3rd party opinions .. no biased opinions what so ever, im going with the 6 series samsung lcd... the only negative i found was it has more glare than the typical lcd, which isnt near ass bad as every plasma i saw under every condition. It has amazing color detail only second to in my eye a xbr8 or the 8 series samsung .. So if anyones looking for a new tv, around 50" and wants to save lots of research go with this

  8. Burnt in images on plasmas "used to be a big concern", but have become really unlikely nowadays, except maybe in extreme cases.... like leaving a video game on pause for days at a time, with the contrast setting cranked up to maximum, and this would still probably only happen, with a cheaper set.

    .....and remember, I'm an LCD kind of guy. But the facts are the facts.

    Heck, Plasmas "used to have" a relatively short screen life too (like 5 years of normal use) but that's also a thing of the past.

    Peace,

    Fish

    PS, One thing I don't think I've ranted about during this discussion, is all of the stinking GLARE from plasmas. Two years ago, when I was looking through all of the flat screens at Best Buy, I quickly noticed that if you looked up at the top row of flatscreens (the ones that were tilted down at about a 40 degree angle), while walking down the isle, you would see a perfect reflection of the all of the store front windows... next set, the same, next set, the same, same, same.... and then, bam ! Finally a set with ZERO reflections on it ! That is where the LCD's started :-)

    Love my LCD.

    Yea thanks guys , again .. So i went up to BB AGAIN, this morning and compared the samsung 650 plasma, the panasonic 85u ( <-- i believe thats the model number ) and the samsung 650 lcd .. ( the lone samsung lcd in my first post)

    After close observation, i will say both plasmas seemed to have darker darks, and i mean every color red , green, black .. More of a rich picture , but i still liked the crispness and resolution of the lcd better .. So im glad i made this thread, cuz i really was leaning towards plasma as of 2 days ago.. Now all i gotta do is fork over the $$$$

    the ONLY reason i would go with the samsung 650 series plasma is cuz of the great price , which is now $1699 opposed to the ( now marked down $600 samsung lcd 650 series ) now at $2099... Only reason really is cuz i wanted to only spend around 2k, but if i went with the plasma , i could get the tv, ps3, stand and cables for about the same price as the lcd..

    So now thats my new decision .. heres the 2

    comparison--- Also through the panasonic plasma in there , like the 480 hz refresh rate and the price , compared to the samsungs 60 hz refresh

  9. SIZE is SOOOO important.....

    I could go on and spend all kinds of time with a brand new post..... But since I just answered this very same thing over on the F150 forum, please forgive me for copying and pasting.... And again, the best advice I can give you is, click on the link to screen size charts, and don't try to discredit those numbers ! I know from personal experience, it's absolutely accurate !

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I've had my 46" 60hz 1080P JVC LCD for about 2 years now. I absolutely love it. The only problem was, when I bought it, I was watching it from a 9ft viewing distance. Sure, it looked BIG ! .....but because of the 1080P, you were still plenty far enough to not see any pixelation, or jagged edges on anything.
    ......then, I moved to a much larger place, and my viewing distance suddenly jumped up to about 13 ft. Talk about the "incredible shrinking TV" :-( Sure, a 52" would be better, but honestly a 60" wouldn't be too big.
    I'm not sure what your viewing distance is, but I bet you would be amazed at what the "optimum size", per viewing distance really is ! I know I was.
    http://www.cnet.com/1990-7874_1-5108...ag=hdtv;hdtv_l
    Scroll to the bottom chart for the wide screen...... and don't be too bummed that your 52" will be good for a "maximum" of less than 13ft. You can doubt this, or try to argue it...... but my personal experience has shown this chart to be "absolutely correct" ! What they are basically saying is, any further (or any smaller a screen) than they are recommending here, and you will basically be losing any benefits of HD, because you will be too far away for your eyes to discern the extra detail. {I know I lost a TON of detail going from 9ft to 13ft :-(}
    My point is: Knowing what I know now, if I were to buy another flatscreen, I'd wait as long, and save as much as I had to, to get as big a screen as I needed, to stay inside of the max viewing distance, listed on this chart.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    LCD vs. plasma.

    {btw, I'm absolutely rediculous about analyzing, and over-analyzing to 10th degree, large purchases such as a flat screen. I studied them, and hung out on a flat panel TV forum for litterally 6 months before my purchase}

    LCD pros:

    *non-glare screen

    *lighter, and less subject to damage during transport

    *use about 40% less electricity for equal screen size, and as a dirrect result, tend to put off much less heat.

    *brighter picture, better for daytime viewing

    LCD cons:

    *blacks are not "as black" (not as high of contrast)

    *cost more than plasmas for equal screen size

    Anyway, if I had to do it again, I would get another LCD for sure..... However, I wouldn't even consider less than a 60", which would still not be too big for my 13ft viewing distance, but would be acceptable, should I ever move to a place with a greater viewing distance yet.

    Hope this helps,

    Peace,

    Fish

    thanks man i think my viewing distance is about 8 feet give or take a foot.. but yea , makes complete sense about how close your viewing

  10. yea man, im really digging the 650 series samsung lcd, But the same ToC samsung 650 series' price is killer 1700 for a badass plasma.. now its just do i wanna spend the extra 500???

    Bottom line i think is gonna be the 650 series samsung, and the W series sony , which i just saw is now 1999. on black friday .. Ahhh damnit, it just gets more damn confusing.........

    So if u guys could help me with this new choice.. anything u know on either

  11. Thanks for the replies guys.. Its gonna be in my livingroom, i guess u could call it under " controlled lighting " it can be bright as hell but with the shades down its damn near pitch black... as far as use?? everything slow movies fast action movies , blu ray , basically any type of fast moving game COD, Madden, Guitar hero etc //.. The one i was really hooked on was the sony W series, then kinda got hooked on the look of samsungs Touch of Color screen/ frame .. Plasmas are a toss up , consumer reports rated the samsung 550 1st, the $6000 pioneer elite 2nd and the samsung 650 series 3 rd .. Now im just reading some reviews on HT.com.. Ahh this is so much more difficult that i thought it would be

    Heres the HT reviews

  13. when ur goin fast and need to slow down, use your gears!! gear down instead of hitting the breaks, gradually break, gradually accelerate

    lol.. soooooo wrongi grew up in northern minnesota , usually about 8-10 feet a season , front wheel drive , gear down?? lol worst idea ever, slide it into neutral and just relax , if ur all tense like alot of first timers are doin 50 then all the sudden hit black ice n go sideways :) ull just make it worse.. so yea, no downshifting if your sliding , neutral ftw :)
