  1. although shops are good some not all but some tend to over price their stuff. i say just try to find someone who does boxes as a side thing. they normally do it cheaper too. and 1" is a little much 3/4 would be good. and mdf is cheap. go to craigslist and look up custom sub box. there should be some people. and make sure to ask them the questions i asked you. although you might not need the fiberglass. this guy that builds my boxes builds boxes for 8 0 sorry but if i put it normally it makes this face 80 lol where you located? i can help you search on your local craigslist. just make sure they know what their doing and have built alot of them. make sure they use mdf 3/4. and they send you a design. to show how they are building it. any more questions pm me.

Well I know a guy who builds them locally here. He told me $200. A lot better than $350, but still expensive.

  2. depends. would he fiberglass the inside? carpet? how many boxes has he done? does he brace it. double baffle? 45 the corners? most i paid for a box custom box was 80 but it was a basic 2 12 box

Carpet and vinyl. I'd supply the vinyl. He's at a reputable shop. He said the supplies would be about 100 alone ...

No idea about the rest of the details. I'm pretty new to the audio game.

  3. alright, if i saved up for some alpine type r 12's, what amp would you recommend for them?

FYI My friend just gave me a sealed box for 2 12's... (lol i would love to go ported for the type r's but free is the best option!)

My first system was 2 12" Type R's with a Alpine MRP-M1000. It was pretty decent in a slotted box. Once they broke in they sounded really good.

  4. I'm gonna be running my 15 inch MTX 8500's (2) to a Audiobahn A 1300hct which runs at 1200 RMS at 1 ohm. This means I need to wire my subs up at 2 ohms each, correct? I was looking at the wiring diagrams and trying to figure it all out. Pretty much what i've figured out is simple enough, running both of the possitives to the possitive terminal on my amp, and the same way with the negative. Therefor running the subs at 2 ohms, and it will run the amp at 1 ohm. If i'm wrong about ANYTHING please let me know, i'd love to do this right the first time! :D

  5. Like I stated, i'm an audio noob. I'd like to get into it and learn, though. I recently had a setup: 2 12" Type R's with a 1000 Watt Alpine amp but ended up selling it. I had those in a slotted box. (Slot was in the middle of the 2) I've recently upgraded to 2 MTX 8500 15's. I'm wanting to know whether I should run them in a ported box, or a sealed box. I have a 2000 Lincoln Town car if that makes a different on my choice.

Any advice would be great, thanks. ;)
