  1. Well I was originaly going with 2 10" DC Lvl 2's. Then though why not get a single 15" lvl 3. Seeing as I will have a T500.1bdCP. the 15" would be a extremely tight fit, so I thought why not 2 12" dc lvl 2's. The recommended net vol for the 12's is 1.25cuft a sub, so this is what I came up with right now. I have a question though on those subs, the Fs is 31Hz, and I will be tuning to 32Hz, would the Fs have any effect on that?

Edit: Does anyone think I should add some bracing to the inside of the box? if I am to do so I would use about 3/4" to 1" poles, one coing depth wise and one going height wise connecting to the top baffle and port.

Edit2: another concern I have on this box, since it is 30 in wide, and only a legit 28.5" inside the box, so that is 24" total of woofer across the top of the box leaving me with 4.5" left. on the one side will be the poer of 2.5"long with a 3/4" mdf next to it to create the port leaving me with 1.5" in total of space of width on the top board, I should be safe right. As long as I mount everything correctly.

No. dont worry about the fs your tuning is fine. If you want to add bracing just get the 1.2 inch dowel poles at home depot they work great and take up little space.

  2. ya, if i wuld probly plan on getting an AQ 3500 later on, but might not be for like 6 months, i was originally going to get that, but i thought i didnt need that much power. Has anyone here heard both the HCCA, and the BTL, and which one do u like?

Go with the Btl if you have the money. Bl if you dont.

Just run the AQ at 2-4 ohms until you can upgrade your alt.

I have A BTL N2 15 and it is extremely loud..only on 1,000 watts and it is a minium 2,000 watt sub, It would be very unnecessary to have anything really louder for daily.

My box is 4.5 cu ft net 30 HZ Birch.. I have been through many setup and have heard quite a few so i do have some experience

  3. none the less still pointless, a real install will do it already, so basically they are doing stuff that has no bearing and isn't needed?

Not necessarily this guy is making it so even the simplest installs can have 3d sound without needing time alignment and this also makes the music 3d by changing the way the music is heard through your left and right ear, giving it depth without having to have a SQ car.

    This guy gets it.

    This guy doesn't get it.

no he isn't, he is measuring at the listening position to figure out time alignment. that is all he is doing. technically what he is doing is trying to help people with hearing problems who use hearing aids get the same abilities as healthy people

Its not just time alignment. If it were it would be pretty simple... a bit of trig and simple physics. With just time alignment you couldn't tell if it were in front of you to the right or behind you to the right. Also, only time alignment wouldn't be enough to fully get the feel for most people. It is much more detailed than that. I could explain some of it, but the best way to tell is to actually watch the video. Though he didn't mention it here ive seen elsewhere in similar studies/technology that the sound is also slightly altered to mimic how your body/ear reflects the sound waves.

Now, tell me how your sq install does anything mentioned. It doesn't even do time alignment like you are trying to say it does. The only time alignment it will do is getting the same wave from different speakers to you at the same time. Nothing to do with direction perception. Just a set time delay for all notes.

Thank you sir, Saved me some typing!!

  5. it can be done but its not easy, cut off the cap, dig through the glue, solder on new leads, run them through the cone but its pretty much impossible to re attach new leads to the spider, at that point they would be free floating leads

Thanks guys. Glad you replied rusty.... just gonna get it reconed once I got the cash. Just killing me having one sub down lol. Gonna fly you over a message rusty.

I have a sub down too and it is painful,, =@

  6. Hi all,

I've read on that tinsel leads can be swapped by removing the dust cap, desoldering the old TL's and feeding new one through and resoldering them.

Just wondering whether this can be done on a level 5?

I've see pictures of the fives with the dust cap off and it looks like the gap between the coil and cone is filled with glue... looks pretty difficult to remove.

    Cheers guys.

dont do it unless you have recones on hand, or the sub is already broken.. It is not easy trust me, i have done it myself. Plus if you remove the dust cap it will get ruined, unless your a pro..

  7. Thanx guys. Car Audio has became my hobbie over the years. I knew i was hooked when i 1st heard subwoofers in a car  , it was about 1992 1993. There was some older guy in our neighborhood he had a toyota and a full range box in his trunk yea FULL Range (old school)and i sat in there and was like WHOA, i feel the music COOL and my eyes lit up, and i was like i want one of those when i get a car. shit when i was 17 looking to buy my 1st car i had already bought my system 8) before the car.

Good stuff.. Nice to see how a persons hobbie has evolved over the years. I feel you on the first time hearing bass, i was also hooked, couldn't wait to put some subs in my first car.. You have been in the game for awhile now..

  8. just buy the pro and place it on top of the peel and seal.. i don't see how that would hurt anything..its the same as having multiple layers of the stuff

i wouldn't place the SS on top the peel and seal... The peel and seal will eventually come off and then you wont be able to remove the SS and will just end up wasting it.. Do it the right way and remove that tary ass peel and seal.. It is a pain in the ass i know i did the same thing., the SS helps tremendously,

  9. Dear god those look nice. 2nd pic is cool with the other BTL peeking at you from the background. :good:

What are the chances I could get the already-custom sub I have in my sig re-coned by you? PM me if you'd like.

Depends on what it is... I don't do a whole lot of custom re-cones due to time restraints, though.

When you attach the voice coil to the cone how do you do that? Do you place the voice coil in the gap then attach the cone to the coil, or do you do it outside of the woofer?

  10. It does have alot of bass, nice and low to just how i like it.. Thanks for the song!!

How do you like them AQ'S? How do you think they stack up to some BL'S?

    Couldn't tell you.

But the AQ's have been gone for awhile now.

But they were excellent subs when I had them.

Took tons of power like a boss.

Just didn't hold together for what I wanted them to do.

thats the same thing i have heard from other too..

Im guessing what you want them to do is play extremely low and loud...??

  11. the resin is to make sure the box is sealed good. and i will be bracing the inside. i read some where some woods are porous and can leak air threw the layers thats where the resin comes in

    LOL WOW sorry

wow wut? i'm no wood expert like you. thats what i read some where

Oh man, wood expert, yeah I am a wood expert, GOT WOOD? I got lotz of WOOD all day everyday. You are not going to BLOW AIR thru a solid object, come on.

    wood isn't solid fyi

So a tree isn't solid, oooo do explain. I know wood is porous but you are not going to pressure air thru solid wood, the wood will break before air passes thru it.

Actually certain kinds of wood will leak air even though them are solid. This is mostly cheap particle board and other wood that is compressed together. The resin is to block the very tiny holes which allow air to escape.. Subwoofer exert a lot of pressure which is enough, in some cases to push through solid wood.
