  1. what do you do if for some strange reason your 16 volt battery bank (charging at 18 volts) goes flat therefore you will need a jump start but you dont know anyone else that runs 16 volt batteries, do you need a 12 volt starting battery at the front or is everything getting power straight from the voltage step down moduals?

i am pretty intrested in going with 16 volt batteries because i already have 2 350 SMD alternators from mechman with a ajustable voltage regulator that will charge 16 volt batteries with no problems and because i have not bought any batteries yet i figure it may be worth looking into, only problem is i have never seen it done before so im not sure how safe it is to go to 16 volts.

  2. i am basically looking at replacing all my exsisting 4 speakers in my doors and the other 2 in my parcel shelf with 8 ohm speakers because i am after clear sound rather than just loud sound, i dont want to connect 2 of them in parallel to make 4 ohm because to me it seems to defeat the perpose, i thought that by going with a higher impendance load would increase clarity with the sacrifice of power.

these are the speakers i am looking at going with: http://www.audiosavings.com/products/Car-Speakers/BEYMA-6MI100-6.5-8-OHM-500W-MIDRANGE-MID-BASS-SPEAKER/6MI100.aspx

  3. hi all, I have done a bit of research about 8 ohm speaker and tweeters and i understand that the point of them is to reduce distortion for a clearer sound and that 8 ohms speakers/tweeters increases resistance therefore reduces power output from a 4 ohm amplifier, but i dont know how much power i will be loosing.

i know i have 2 options either try and match the 8 ohm speakers with a 4 ohm amplifier (connect a 200 watt rms 8 ohm speaker to a 200 watt rms 4 ohm amplifier) and deal with the power and db loss, or i could connect i slightly higher powered amplifier to the speakers and hope the power is the same once it has been converted to 8 ohm power (connect a 200 watt rms 8 ohm speaker to a 250-300 watt rms amplifier)

i have decided to go with the second option but i dont know how much more power i will need in ordor to get optimum power to the speaker. any help would be much appreciated.

  4. hey im sorry to say this im not to sure if i understand the potential of these sx power batteries, i think i need more information, i don't understand the new technology in these batteries, i know you are saying that they differ from standard batteries because they are designed for power on demand, as far as i can understand from looking at the above posts is that instead of running 2 or more high power alternators and 1 or 2 standard batteries you can run only one high power alternator and 4 sx power batteries if you dont have space for extra alternators and still somehow have the same power even though there is only 1 alternator, how do you get extra amps out of these batteries, it almost seems like even though there is 1 high power alternator it still wont be putting out enough power to charge the batteries because you are relying on batteries for the power and not the alternator.

please help me here because i feel like i have started stumbling down the wrong road

  5. wait so does that mean that this alternator will charge at 15 volts at idle even if the stereo volume is low, wont this damage the electrical components for example the ecu? im new to this and trying my best to make sense of it all, my standard alternator is charging at 14.3 volts with nothing on like lights or heater fan just incase you needed to know

  6. Hi there, my name is Alan and i am new here 'obviously' lol i am 21 and i live on the south east side of Melbourne in Australia, i like to think of myself as a car audio fanatic but then again i dont have anything close to the best car stereo going around but it is defiantly much better than average. i managed to find this site when i was bored the other day wile searching on youtube for the loudest car stereo and what do you know i found a suv with 8 18" subs in it "best cure for boredom ever" i drive a black holden wh statesman which is basically a commodore but longer, i joined only 3 days ago and on that day i was already learning about how to make my stereo better which i thank yous for. just one question is there anyone on here that is also from Australia or am i the only one?
