  1. We really can't help you if you're already doing things wrong... Finding out what is wrong with that input is the first thing you should have done.

What input? I just told you that it's not the head input because I unplugged it and it was still flexing from the battery.

    Basically:

Lights on, car running = slight sub flex in tune with the idle RPM's

Lights off = sub bottoms out when I press the brakes

driving with or without lights on = amp turns off for a second or 2 when I hit the brakes

  2. Im not 100% sure but im gonna guess that you have a pretty decent short somewhere.

Edit: prolly around the trunk area since its with the brake lights. did it do it more than once?

It did it every time I hit the brakes, every time was the same

Edit: also, when music is playing at any volume, and I hit the brakes, the amp will cut out for a second.

Also, when I turn the volume to 0, I notice a sharp clicking noise from the sub, and when I turn the car off, it sounds like the sub is being scratched for a brief second.

  3. You said it was set to aux and the cord was partway out?

That may be your problem. Does it still do it with the cord unplugged or plugged all the way in?

I'm gonna go look right now.

It's hard to explain if you have never seen an AV cable before (it has 3 rings instead of just 1 or 2 for an audio cable)

It only sounds correct if I stick it out a little bit.

Edit: moved the car (needed to anyway)

Parked it, took the cord out, still in aux mode, lights all off except 4 (30 or so total) SMD's (type of LED) for the interior which don't affect the wiring in any way because of the low power consumption.

Before, the headlights were on, which might have been stressing the battery.

Anyways, I took the cable out, turned the volume to 40 (with a little bit of noticeable static) and even back to 10 - both did nothing to the sub.

Then I hit the brakes and the sub bottomed out.......wtf?

  4. I don't know what's with all the hate and aggression.

    I never said I was a baller.

I just thought that with all the stuff steve/you does, why does he/you still have a honda?

Any broke ass has a honda...it doesn't make you look very good to have this website and all this money and cars and still have a honda...

No need to get defensive or immature.

Yes, I have a blazer and it isn't even mine really. That doesn't mean I can't think big (knowing a BMW is not very expensive compared to a honda in the first place, especially if you have a lot of money to dump on hobbies like car audio)

I can appreciate the fact that you put a lot of money and it has sentimental value though, and that's nice that you gave it to your son. So I'm hoping you move onto better cars?

  5. well im gonna say for starters that your playing music with your headunit 40 out of 40 you are most likely clipping the shit out of your subs. check your grounds and make sure everything is tight. i have had some issues with rca's doing similar things like this so check them out and quit maxing out your volume and do some more reading on the forums to adjust your system so you dont fry your shit. im gonna say you probably have your gain maxed out to

lol no dude I just said my gain is at half and the bass boost is off

I did this so that it doesn't over power the highs...I don't want ghetto bass.

Also the phone is at 12/14 so it's never really maxed out.

The 2-ways can take the 40/40 95% of the time...

The power is ran next to the RCA's.....would that do it? I don't hear any interference at all like I did when I ran speaker wire next to the power wire for the dash 2-ways

  6. was getting groceries, with curb side parking.

helped the kid cause I'm not lazy and noticed the sub flexing in sync with the idle of the car - you know the idle that goes a little bit under RPM's and the lights dim?

I'm thinking this is probably a battery or alternator issue but not sure.

The head unit was in AUX mode (for 3.5mm on the front panel).

the 3.5mm cord was out a little bit (it's an A/V input and don't have a correct cord for it/not sure they make it)

I'm not sure if the other end of the cord was touching anything though.

Any suggestions for further testing/advice appreciated.

Sub hits hard at 38-40 out of 40 on head unit, phone set to 12 out of 14 volume. I notice some distortion in the 2-ways in the dash/doors on some songs maxed out but the sub sounds fine.

Sub settings are: punch EQ all the way down, gain at half

    hardware in signature

  7. "I will eventually do the big 3 but the bass hitting is more important right now."

Well guess what, the big three will make the "bass hit".

Really? How much would it cost to get the big 3 for my car? Least expensive preferred but don't want anything cheap

i like how that port fits in the box, but i don't like how it's not rounded over on the inside. nor do i see a 45 degree angle in the port, although that's hard to see. what are the dimensions of that port and box? port seems kinda thin to me

Would it be hard to add a 45 in there?

And yeah he didn't round the edged but people have told me that doesn't matter.

As for anyone with un-helpful comments, just don't post.

I'm not here to argue or get any useless posts, I just want some help. Yes, I am new to car audio, that's why I came here for help

Here is the sheet that was used to build the box.

  8. This is the box I had made.

the guy that built it makes custom enclosures for concerts or something.

He built it exactly as the sheet for the sub said to.

As I said before, for some reason I can feel it on the outside of the car 10 times or more compared to the inside.

The wiring isn't a problem right now - it only cuts out when I turn it ALL THE WAY UP.

I will eventually do the big 3 but the bass hitting is more important right now.

I called it "raw wood" because I didn't stain it (can you stain MDF?) and I didn't carpet it (just for looks right?)

  9. Well first of all, no that capacitor will not help you.

Second of all, if your voltage is doing what mine is doing like you said in my thread for bigpimpin with that little amp, then your wiring is complete shit and the capacitor will just make things worse.

Go learn what the big 3 is, use proper grounds, use an appropriate sized wire for that 500 watt amp of yours. Don't clip, don't twist the gain (it's not a volume knob).

And if you want to be louder, invest more money and for god's sake invest more time LEARNING what you're doing.

A "raw wood box built to spec" is probably the worst thing you could ask for.

edit: and as far as bass being felt outside the car but not in it, your car is acting like a tuning chamber lowering the resonant frequency of what's being produced by the bass. Again this just points at that box of yours.

Alright well the headlights dim/voltage drops/sub stops playing randomly only when I'm playing it loud enough to feel which is probably due to the box like you said, so how can I feel the bass inside instead of outside without having to crank the volume to the max?

  10. First off, is this worth getting?

    http://www.frys.com/product/6181259

Second, why is it I can have the volume at 10-20 (lowest possible listening volume for when I just barely want to hear the music) (max is 40) and can feel the bass from outside the car (up to 20-50 feet away) but it takes at least 25-30 (on some songs, depends on the bass lines) to even START to feel the shake a little bit?

I have tried all sorts of box placements and nothing works except at high volumes which I am sure is doing all of the following:

    1. Annoying anyone around the car, especially neighbors

    2. Torturing the sub/amp

    3. Going to cause something to fuck up and I'll be out of a $300 amp or $250 sub (prices I paid)

Beginning to think a sub is pointless and I should have just got some 6.5"s for the doors since I can honestly say I felt the stock mids WAY more than I ever felt the sub I have now.

gear is in my sig and I had a custom box built exactly to spec for the sub......

  11. Just wanted to give my 2 cents on this song.

    1. I fell in love with it the first time I heard it.

    2. The bass is perfect. No clipping. No "going over other bass" - not sure the correct term, but you know how a lot of songs have chorus bass, then the rest of the song has bass that is just played over the chorus bass? Maybe I'm just a beginner at car audio, but I'm glad this song has a clean hard hitting bass line.

  12. looks like a damn rocket ship... complete with seat! :D

rockin the HP... but its all about the insides.

EDIT: question why does it tell me 3.7 gb's for the video card when its a 1 gb?

Edit: can u run it says you have the GTS 250 which is a 1gb/512mb GDDR3 card

The case was supposed to be a bulldozer ("GMC r-4 bulldozer") and was only $20 at frys and nobody has it so I figured why not?

The reason it says you have 3gb is due to a bug in the canurunit website...

the can-u-run-it software lies...don't rely on it...

fallout: NV lagged on my system and I have a quad core and 5770 1gb GDDR5...4gb ddr3 1600MHz

here is the screen from GTAIV

I can actually max it on 1440x900 except for shadows which are medium

  13. I was also wondering about painting the dash to maybe a metal flake gray with clear coat for glossy awesomeness. I've seen some interiors look stock with just paint with glossy white and it looks clean.

Plus I wanted to cut part of the dash to make it easier when I want to mess with the back of the head unit, so painting would help hide the cuts (well, got to sand the cut areas anyway and figured I would paint it after and kill 2 birds with one stone)

I think it depends on the material of the interior swagg

Like, you can't really paint leather...I think...

  14. ya... im the guy that offered to help you with your new system... offered to build a box... i told you im in fremont... we talked about meeting up... you told me your name is retarded... no? doesnt ring a bell?

oh damn I swear that was some guy on CL that emailed me...I'm moving right now, so I have a lot on my mind...and my sleeping pattern is pretty messed right now...

But yeah I'm def needing to get this done ASAP...I'll PM you...

  15. i offered to build you a box lol. im sure most of the guys on here can tell you that my team mates and/or myself can design and make a better box than a cabinet maker.

why does it cost so much? lets see $60 in supplies leaves $40 profit... comes to about $7 an hour. would you accept a $7 per hour job if you knew you were a great worker?

now if you just want 6 sides slapped together, well shit, that guy could probably have it done in an hour. if you want something to perform, it's going to take some time to build and a lot of extra tricks that we know about.

    but hey, its your money.

Oh I got an email from someone...not sure if it was you...but I thought it was just to get the right dimensions...

I'm all the way in CALI. shipping would be ridiculous no matter where you live (unless it's less than a hour drive that I could pick up)
