  1. 200 bucks for a box is cheap. its probably 50 in material alone maybe then the plan and design and the time to build it. I dont do boxes for that price.

So the guy that owns a shop and is willing to do it for $100 is a good deal?

Exactly! $200 gets you a ported rectangle without rounded edges ans no paint. When you start getting into nicer boxes, rounding and 45 corners your talking 2 times what I paid just for your box.

Does the price reflect on the sound output/internals of the box? I'm only looking for sound quality...

  2. the guys at the car audio shop that I bought the sub and amp from tell me the box does not matter.

I've never built a box before, so I want to pay someone to make one quality (and I did, found a guy that has been making cabinets or something for 20 years and owns his own shop)

My problem is that the guy wants $100 and there is no way for me to be sure it's going to sound better.

    What if it sounds worse?

    I measured the current $50 box and it's: (width x height x depth) W:1'7" H:1'2" D:1'5"

The box dimensions needed for my sub are W:2'5" H:1'2" D:1'0.625"

How hard is it to do it myself?

Lowest price you would pay someone to do it?

Here is a pic of what needs to be done.

  3. I tried a few different box designs, sub up port forward, subs and port forward, subs back port forward and even slot port vs Tube ports. I went from pretty loud to causing pain. I just wish i had a bigger trunk so i could build a bigger and better enclosure.

I'm guessing your car has limited space?

Well I have an SUV - what would you recommend?

hit up a designer on here and tell then your subs, max specs that you can do. and what you want it tuned to. they will give you a cut out sheet

Where do I find a designer?

just make sure you can do the design though, espically since it sounds like he has never build a box a day in this life, its pretty much all trial and error but at the end of the process u can honestly say you built a box u are proud of

Good luck bro! hope it does well for ya :drink40:

Yeah if I make a box myself, that would be a lot more satisfactory...my dad is good at building stuff...I'll ask him for help...

  4. bro foreal if u can sell all that for max you can get out of it, im tellin you go on ebay, buy http://cgi.ebay.com/2-JL-AUDIO-13W3V3-13-5-4-ohm-Car-Subwoofers-2400W-Pr-/290489954245?pt=Car_Subwoofers_Enclosures&hash=item43a28cefc5 thes bitches for 400, this bitch http://cgi.ebay.com/CAR-AUDIO-JL-W1-W3-W6-DUAL-13-ENCLOSURE-NEW-SUB-BOX-U-/400162220393?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d2b86e969 for 140, and a audiopipe 1500 http://cgi.ebay.com/CAR-AUDIO-JL-W1-W3-W6-DUAL-13-ENCLOSURE-NEW-SUB-BOX-U-/400162220393?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d2b86e969 for 165, you wont be dissapointed and itll hit way harder, and itll only cost like 705, itd be worth it if you can sell, 2 13.5s in a good sized box with 1500(depending on how they are wired) watts

The last 2 links are the same and those subs are only 100 more watts than this. How would 100w make a difference?

Maybe I don't have my shit hooked up right?

I think I have the sub connected to the rear out RCA's so that I can use the fader to turn the subs down (head unit has no sub control)

Gonna brake open the console right now and see if they work better on the SUB out...

also I have this equalizer - would it help?

If so, also wondering if they make a dash kit for this for my car (1996 gmc jimmy) there seems to be enough room for it.

  5. Craigslist FTW! put it on craigslist someone will buy it just put JL Audio and Rockford Fosgate. And put in the description "LOUD" it will sell itself.

    How much should I ask?

man if i knew you wanted to spend 650, i couldve pointed you in a better direction, i thought you was tryin to stay around 2 bills

Damn well I wanted to stay under $200 but then it went to $400 at frys and so on...I got tired of not having decent bass that I could feel so I sprang for the "good brands"

  6. this amp does 500 watts rms bridged.. not sure why they gave u a 2 channel amp instead of a monoblock http://www.crutchfield.com/s_575P5002P/Rockford-Fosgate-Punch-P500-2.html?tp=115

I don't think they had one that worked...the first one they gave me was only 320w RMS @ 4 ohms, the 500w was 2 ohms..and the guy even said "oh hur dur sorry about that"

shit id try to return it and go on ebay and get the 13w3v3 for like $200

"no returns, only exchanges" is what it says on the receipt. :(

  7. A much better set up could be had for the money. You're running a just looks sub and an overpriced amp.. never trust local shops. They always rip people off.. If you're happy keep it but if he told me I couldn't demo anything or get my money back, I'd have walked out. Plus they should have stayed open just for you, to get a new head unit but they're too greedy and unwilling to help. That's what it sounds like to me.

Yeah now that you mention it...they didn't even want to help this other guy that came in right before they closed...and that IS odd how they didn't want to sell me a head unit...

The receipt says "No refunds, exchanges only" And then "30% restocking fee for exchanges"

  8. could be a wiring issue. thats pretty fucked up that you cant return anything. where did you get it from?

JL and RF are both expensive brands. and you dont really get what you pay for with them.

It's called "car audio express" in san jose. There used to be a skate shop there a few years ago or so.

I was looking up the amp and some site said it's only 125w RMS?

  9. well its a local audio shop, they always try to rip ppl off at least around my area.

I figured that because it was a car audio specialty shop that they would know more about the stuff...

    So what should I do?

At the end, they told me my head unit was the problem because it didn't have a sub control or something...

They said to come back tomorrow to get a new head unit (they were closing)

  10. I am completely new so subs/amps/boxes.

I would like to know if I should demand my money back/better equipment or be happy with my purchase.

It sounds OK but for $300 I had the exact same sound from frys electronics with a cheap crunch amp ($100) and the polk audio db1212 ($200 - 360w RMS)

    Here are some pictures.

    The sub is a 12w3v3-4 ($250)

Amp is rockford fosgate punch P500-2 ($300)

Box was custom made I think ($50)
