  1. I'm slowly trying to upgrade my system, piece by piece, as I work at Staples, and only get paid a few dollars over minimum wage :P

Next week, I will be ordering a pair of Level 3 12's to replace my Memphis PR's. Will I see a significant difference in SQ/SPL from the upgrade? The PR's are SVC, and are rated to like 300 RMS or around that.

Amp is Kicker zx750.1, decent custom box (made for the PR's), and clean 4GA power/ Big 3 upgrade. Also new(also Autozone "stock" i guess you can call it) 105AMP Alt.

The birth sheet of the amp says its rated 941RMS. Do you think it will be really under-powering the LVL 3's?

I'm looking at purchasing the DC 2.0K, if the price is right, to get the full potential out of the subs, but I'm not sure if i have enough power from the source for it.

Anyway, also wanted to know if someone can PM me a quote on level the 2.0K shipped to 29483.

    Thanks!

  2. I like Memphis but those two 12's are only 500RMS while the 15" L5 is 750 (perfect for the amplifier) not to mention i've seen 12" L5's take 1000RMS daily. I've also owned a Grand Prix 97 and they have huge trunks you need to build a new box. I would keep the 15" and build a box subwoofer and port to the rear. (I ran two 15's in my grand prix you can do 1 15" easy) I'd suggest running RMS off the amplifier (probably around 1000) to the subwoofer (if your electrical can handle it, which stock electrical can probably do 1000rms)

Build a box 35hz @ 3.5cft net ported and fire them both to the rear should be a lot louder.

Thanks for the quick reply. Actually, the previous owner had 2 of these 15" L5's, but and had the box from the back of the seat, all the way back to the trunk.

The thing is, I drive 90 miles a day for work, and I would like to have access to the spare tire. So a big box really isn't an option for me, as i would like it to be.

Anyone have experience with both subs? Big difference in how they hit?

  3. My buddy just asked me to trade his Memphis PR 12's (SVC 4ohm), in a newly built ported box, for my 15" L5 (DVC 2ohm) in a cheap ebay box.

Just wondering if this is close to an even trade money/audio wise. I have a '97 Grand Prix, and even in the cheap box i have, the l5 still wont fit under my 6x9 w/o pushing them up. I have it close to the trunk now, which sounds better, but i don't have much trunk room.

Also, my amp is Kicker zx750.1, can the Memphis PR's handle it as the L5 does?

    Thanks

  4. Either would be louder in a custom built box, my buddy used to have a box like the one the CVR's in the pic are in IIRC it was tuned to like 46Hz or something.....

Anyways to the OP, where do you live? Maybe there is another member on here near that could help you out with a box

Charleston, South Carolina... I know a guy who knows a guy in Myrtle Beach, I might have to get a hold of him.

  5. in the right box the single l5 should put out more than the cvrs i think anyways

That's what I was thinking. The thing i'm wondering is about the range of sound I can get. CVR's have a frequency response of 25-500, and the L5 has a f.r. of 18-100. Not totally sure what this means, but I'm guessing that the L5 hits lower notes good, but doesn't his relatively high notes? Not sure. Again, this might go back to the frequency not not working on my amp.

  6. Hey can I get the demisions of your box I just bought the same set up zx750 and l5 15" if that's no problem for you I'd thank you alot

I bought it off a buddy of mine, he ordered it online. It's similar to this, but not the same as in the port tunnel inside the box: Dimensions (W x H x D): 22.5" x 17" x 16.25"

I honestly don't have enough spare time/tools to build a box, but is there any good ones out there that could fit in my trunk (grand prix) that i could maybe order online?

  7. Well first, I'd like to say hello, I just joined this forum. I just started with car audio a few years ago

Here's my current setup in my 1997 Pontiac GTP

    • Kenwood KDC-MP345U Headunit
    • Kicker L5 15" in Ported Box ( Box not much bigger than Sub)
    • Kicker zx750.1 Amp
    • 2 GA Power, running off stock power sources
    • "Big Three" done under hood

Here are the problems: The sub doesn't seem to be hitting as hard as it should. I have bass-boost on amp all the way down, gain on 8/11, and headunit bass flat. It doesn't hit fairly low notes, e.x. it sounds to be struggling to hit the notes in "Burn Rubber" by Too Short, and doesn't hit fairly high notes for this kind of sub, e.x. it half ass's the higher notes in "Top Back" by T.I. (not trying to tune my subs to songs, just trying to give easy examples)

Here's what i think it is personally, the frequency nob moves, but doesn't seem to change anything sound-wise. Is this because there is a problem with the amp, or is it my headunit with the "Pass Thru option selected"?

Also, my ground wire is a very cheap quality ebay 0 GA clipped to 2 GA. The wire strands seem thinner than the one's from my speaker wire.

To add to note, The sub doesn't really flex at all tbh, although it hits, it does flex. When I had my older oldschool bd1000.1 amp, it flexed/hit hard, but amp overheated.

Any tip, suggestions, or solutions? Thanks in advance. Great forum to be part of.
