hello everyone, I'm trying to help a friend out with his system. he currently has a 2 kicker CVR 12. i believe their rated @ 400 watts RMS a piece and he has a crappy Dual deck from walmart. he said he is looking to upgrade. he has a old school kenwood amp that is only 300 watts rms running the cvr's.
ok down to the point
he only has $150 for an amp and new HU.
For the HU
and for the amp, well i don't know what amp to get so if someone can give my an idea of what amp to get, that would be really helpful.
thank you

i like the song, it's better than most crap i hear on the radio (not saying the radio play's crap all the time, but most of the time they do.)
-
I'll look into 3/4 inch birch, my friend said he will let me use his table saw and I'll be sure to pick up some liquid nail and carpet
-
actually, wood is a good place to start! what you planning on using? ive just built a box, similar specs to what yours in gunna have, and i used 18mm mdf, with a few braces.... its solid as a rock!
3/4 inch MDF, nails, glue. anything i forgot?
-
yes i will post pictures once its done.
-
Starting point for a box? Wood?........Haha just messin'
He mean have both the port face towards the trunk lid. Thats normal. If you go with a ported box shoot for around 30-35 hertz.
haha well i didnt want to insult him by saying you need wood, glue and a tape measure
that's the next stage after getting the design on paper
-
oh ok, i got it now. thank again and i lol'd about the starting point.. wood.
-
ok thanks for replying so fast. i download the calculator and i have the numbers down. just one question.
what do you mean by subs back and ports back?

Hello everyone, I'm looking to build a box for two Hifonics HFI-12D4. it is going inside a 05 Ford Taurus sedan. i have this how much space i have to work with.
width - 36 inches
Height - 16 inches
Depth - 17 inches
i don't know where to start. can someone plz help me out. thank you
-
yes really, don't cheap out, i have made that mistake a few times and now i have learned my lesson.... do it right the first time or as i learned at ford training "fix it right the first time"
Too bad they don't always "build it right the first time" Must be where they got the fix it slogan. Lulz
lol

well i just looked at the spec's and XS power has better spec but is also 100 bucks more than the yellow top
-
around 250 to 320
depends where you buy it from, I'm looking buy one to replace my yellow top optimum
-
The Vulcan is very easy to work on electrical wise.
OMG sexy vulcan, what size battery is that, looks like a D3100 from XS
Not to be Mr. Obvious or anything... But the battery says D3400.
mybad i didn't see that

well a easy way to find out is look at your front fender, if there is a decal in your fender at say's DOHC 24 valve then you have a duratec, if not then you have Vulcan....
another way is to look under your hood, if you alt is on top on the engine then its a Vulcan, if you can't see your alt then its a duratec engine cause the alt is located at the bottom of the engine
-
if you have the 24 valve duratec engine, then your alt output is 130 amps but if you have a 12 valve Vulcan engine, then you will have a 110 amp alt...
6x8 is the size of the speakers in all 4 corner, could just make adapter plates like Robert8252 said

i would like to thank everyone for their input, its has really opened my eye's and now i feel like i need to start from square one again =) I'll keep you guys updated

I agree with skittles, but also feel upgrading your electrical will be your best bet to get more bass. Upgrade the electrical so you can actually wire down to 1 ohm and then you'll really get some performance gains.
You're talking about other subs being pushed by an amp that's still wired at 4 ohms and yet you still have voltage drop. Upgrade the battery to the biggest you can fit and do the big 3.
ok, i plan on doing the big 3 upgrade and installing a second battery before i go out and buy new subs
-
im going to strongly recommend upgrading the HU first. spend that $300 on an alpine HU and you will have better SQ and you should notice an increase in bass as well.
yes your amp will power a pair of SX's just fine but you will want to run at 1ohm. if you have that amp at 4ohm now and you are dropping to 12.9v then at 1ohm you would fry the amp due to low voltage. but just going to 1ohm should double the sub's output.
True, i think will upgrade my HU first then go from there, pioneer makes good HU's don't they
Sry if i piss someone off, I'm new to car audio so I'm still learning

well you could do a sub change and the optima is it a second batt or your primary? and your mids and highs are they on the sony deck if so they would sound better with a little more amplification that the deck can provide so a four channel amp on them would greatly improve their sound
Yellow top is my primary batt
i was thinking about getting a amp for the mids and highs but i don't know which one to get
any recommendation?
well I suggest that you figure out how much you want to spend a good 100 by four would wake them up greatly and I would suggest a second battery the alt can wait for a little bit but should be on the list since you have a hifonics amp in their already maybe the zues four channel
alright, who makes a good Battery, i heard Kinetik is a good battery
the kinetic would work fine and that amp will push those subs good
alright thanks
