Hi all, I've read on that tinsel leads can be swapped by removing the dust cap, desoldering the old TL's and feeding new one through and resoldering them. Just wondering whether this can be done on a level 5? I've see pictures of the fives with the dust cap off and it looks like the gap between the coil and cone is filled with glue... looks pretty difficult to remove. Cheers guys.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I think ill oscope it to a point for daily and a point for demoing and burps. I absolutely love the kit when I push it into "clip" it gets brutally loud. But at the clipped point its not enough because I know how much louder it goes... if you know what I mean. I scoped it with a 0dB 50hz tone. I tested propper droppers (at headrest door open) and it did 155.2dB, but that was before it was scoped. It doesn't seem as loud as it was then, but until I TL it I don't know.

Hi all, Ive scoped my system but when I take the sub level on the head unit up past where its scoped to it gets a Hell of a lot louder to the ear. I do not hear any distorting though. Would this be seen on a TL? I'm just not happy with how loud it is at the scoped level, but I don't want to break shit clipping it. I have 2 dc lv5 18s off 4 sundown 1500ds. Cheers guys.

if you're smelling voice coil with 1.5k to a level 5 you're just clipping it all to hell. No I have 4 1500ds 2 on each. The noise got worse today while it was on loud... the sub was moving oddly too. -

Yea its a high pitched noise.... gonna tape up the dust cap and see if it does it anymore. What would cause a dust cap to become loose? I do give the subs a good pounding, got them on two SD saz1500ds.... -

After a listen today I think it could possibly be a dust cap issue.... I'll try and get a video, hopefully the Mic will pick up the sound. Thanks guys. -
Level 5 18 buzzing at low volume?

But I don't understand why it does it to start off with then after a blast it doesn't do it. -
Hi all. One of my lv5s started making a strange buzzing noise at low volume. It sounds like the coil scraping on something but when I push the cone slightly it goes away, or if I turn it up loud it goes away. Only seems to do it when the system has been off, or while playing at low volume for a while. Also when it makes this noise its like there is no bass from it just this scraping/ buzzing. I've heard the noise when I've blown shitty subs up for fun just before they pop. Coils are reading right, and the other sub is fine. Has anyone had this problem before? Hoping I don't need a recone already. Thabks guys.

Level 5 18 port area and tuning?
DodgerCannon replied to DodgerCannon's topic in DC Sound Lab - Big Bass on ANOTHER LEVEL!
Cheers guys... here in the UK lots of people use around 8-10 sq" of port area per cube... I've have good results using such low port area with low tuning (27hz :-D). But after joining the smd forum I'm thinking of using 15-20sq" to see how results differ... I might use blockers to bring the tuning right down from say 38 to 25hz. Would a bigger port be louder than a tighter one? -

0.7ohm per amp....1.4ohm strapped. The lvl 5s are dual 0.7ohm
