  1. Hey dudes, What sort of power are you level 5 users giving your woofers? My 2 18s are on 1 sundown saz-1500d per coil.
  2. Thanks guys. Glad you replied rusty.... just gonna get it reconed once I got the cash. Just killing me having one sub down lol. Gonna fly you over a message rusty.
  3. Hi all, I've read on that tinsel leads can be swapped by removing the dust cap, desoldering the old TL's and feeding new one through and resoldering them. Just wondering whether this can be done on a level 5? I've see pictures of the fives with the dust cap off and it looks like the gap between the coil and cone is filled with glue... looks pretty difficult to remove. Cheers guys.

  5. Ah right cool. I'll do that then. Would playing a 0db 50hz tone but with the sub level at -6db work, then turn it back up once scoped?
  6. Thanks for all the comments guys. I think ill oscope it to a point for daily and a point for demoing and burps. I absolutely love the kit when I push it into "clip" it gets brutally loud. But at the clipped point its not enough because I know how much louder it goes... if you know what I mean. I scoped it with a 0dB 50hz tone. I tested propper droppers (at headrest door open) and it did 155.2dB, but that was before it was scoped. It doesn't seem as loud as it was then, but until I TL it I don't know.
  7. Hi all, Ive scoped my system but when I take the sub level on the head unit up past where its scoped to it gets a Hell of a lot louder to the ear. I do not hear any distorting though. Would this be seen on a TL? I'm just not happy with how loud it is at the scoped level, but I don't want to break shit clipping it. I have 2 dc lv5 18s off 4 sundown 1500ds. Cheers guys.
  8. I think they were more burnt than snapped lol, probibly down to clip.... it smapped right where it was sewn into the spider...
  9. pulled the sub out today to find a snapped tinsel lead .... looks like a recone is due.
  10. if you're smelling voice coil with 1.5k to a level 5 you're just clipping it all to hell. No I have 4 1500ds 2 on each. The noise got worse today while it was on loud... the sub was moving oddly too.
  11. Lol, hum yea, nothing like the fresh smell of coils in the morning.
  12. Yea its a high pitched noise.... gonna tape up the dust cap and see if it does it anymore. What would cause a dust cap to become loose? I do give the subs a good pounding, got them on two SD saz1500ds....
  13. After a listen today I think it could possibly be a dust cap issue.... I'll try and get a video, hopefully the Mic will pick up the sound. Thanks guys.
  14. But I don't understand why it does it to start off with then after a blast it doesn't do it.
  15. Hi all. One of my lv5s started making a strange buzzing noise at low volume. It sounds like the coil scraping on something but when I push the cone slightly it goes away, or if I turn it up loud it goes away. Only seems to do it when the system has been off, or while playing at low volume for a while. Also when it makes this noise its like there is no bass from it just this scraping/ buzzing. I've heard the noise when I've blown shitty subs up for fun just before they pop. Coils are reading right, and the other sub is fine. Has anyone had this problem before? Hoping I don't need a recone already. Thabks guys.
  16. Thanks buddy, they are currently set to 80v so looks like they need to come down a little.
  17. Hi all, Just wondering what to set my output voltage to on my strapped 1500d's? They have a 1.4ohm load. No access to an oscope at the moment so I'm using a DMM to reduce chances of clip. Cheers guys.
  18. Cheers guys.... ill strap them first then test with the TL then do one per coil to see if I gain anything. I have also heard that when strapped, if one amp dies it takes the other with it.... but do sundown amps die? Lol.... not head of a failure in the UK so far.
  19. Sorry, that is NOT true. I know this isn't true.... its easy to match the amps anyway with just a DMM. The crossovers can be controlled by my head unit also so matching those will be no problem.
  20. Hi all, Which would be better for my lv5s? One 1500d per coil or strap them and series the coils? I know amps arnt as efficient when strapped but would it be a noticable difference? Thanks guys.
  21. Thanks for the replies guys. Subs will be 2 dc level 5 18s off 4 sundown 1500ds strapped at 1.4ohm. Looking at 12cuft, but if a larger box will play louder and flatter I have more space. Will be walled in a small vw lupo.
  22. Hi all, What will drop better and shift more air... a bigger port 18sq" of port area per cube or a smaller port 8-12sq" of port area per cube? I've always used 8sq" tuned low and its always hit hard and dropped low with control. Cheers guys.
  23. Cheers guys... here in the UK lots of people use around 8-10 sq" of port area per cube... I've have good results using such low port area with low tuning (27hz :-D). But after joining the smd forum I'm thinking of using 15-20sq" to see how results differ... I might use blockers to bring the tuning right down from say 38 to 25hz. Would a bigger port be louder than a tighter one?
  24. 0.7ohm per amp....1.4ohm strapped. The lvl 5s are dual 0.7ohm
