the subwoofer free air will reach it's Xmax/Xlim/Xsus/and Xmech at 20Hz with 550-600 watts. The voice coil reaches it's thermal limits with double that power. When you put the subwoofer in a restricted airspace
in an enclosure, the mechanical limits are most affected. In a small sealed enclosure, the electrical limits will limit the driverAND YES, THIS SUB WOULD WORK JUST FINE IN A SMALL SEALED ENCLOSURE! THE ONLY THING ABOUT IT IS IT IS A 2LAYER VC SO IT TAKES A LITTLE LESS POWER, BUT, IT IS MORE EFFICIENT SO REQUIRES A LITTLE LESS POWER!
My enclosure is still pretty efficient, "low Q", unrestrictive. This means I still don't need gobs of power to do the same thing as the BTL's in smaller enclosures.

what is a sine sweep?
avery dangerous thing, esp for Jordan Powell
a sine is a pure tone, single frequncy. sweep means it starts at 1 point and goes to another
this one was a 20Hz-250Hz sweep, but I kept starting it over, cuz it's not fun anymore or visible on the camera a little above it's 33Hz tuning.... cone motion is little above 40-50Hz

how are you putting that much power to the Ib3? arent they only rated for 550rms, and there arent any options for cooling or anything.
oh, the rating is mechanical not thermal. scott and I talked about this before I bought it.

people are really led blindly sometimes.... "infinite baffle" what does that really mean? ther are I think 13 parts to a subwoofer. What is special about an SPL or SQ driver? The only thermal limitation is it is 2 layer not 4 layer. I knew even before Scott emailed me that the 550-600 watts was mechanical... the damn sub I have is close to an avalanche/brahma/tumult. Haters start flamin... but it's all about motor, suspension.
The msurround is the same, cone is the same, basket is the same, tinsel leads, push terminals.
what makes it what it is? Spyder(s) number used and stiffness. Motor. it's only 2 layer instead of 4... only REAL difference. Slug number and diameter....
I am over simplifying to counter act everyones over complicating.
it is NOT an "IB" woofer. The motor yes is slimmer, efficiency is higher. less power handling? less power requirement.
It LAUGHED at my Lanzar amp, that is why I got a bigger one.

here's the story again on that:
I wanted a 2500.1 for the 22" IB3 single 2ohm
I couldn't afford it
I got the wheels in motion for an AP30001D instead
Scott made a comment on HTS that the Xmax was going to be 30mm and in an email said he was bumping the motor from an IB3 motor to a Q motor
Those 2 comments combined led me to believe hte IB3 22" in fact would not have the same VD as 2 IB3 18's
I decided to either run 2 IB3 18's parrallel 1 ohm or the Maelstrom-X 21" parallel at 1 ohm
I ordered the BXI
Scott emailed me and the IB3 22 IS going to have the same VD
Now I want 2500.1 again
Guy on ebay gave me "second chance offer" since winning bidder never paid

that cant be good for a sub and by free air i ment that port which is just a hole in the wall
I made some vids with the good camera showing that it is not a hole it is tuned, but didn't turn out, and that is the ONLY reason I havent retuned to 15Hz while I've been doing all this work on the box... I put allthread in, just got done hooking all 6 batteries up for the 1st time....
So that I can make more vids showing it is tuned

thats not what he is saying. the box is so big its sorta like no box at all.
which doesn't mean less control, it means less power required... had it been in a smaller "more contolling" box then I would have had to give it more power to get the same excursion to make the vids (which I made AFTER it had already bottomed, as I think I said when I posted the vids... I think it was something like "it's already bottomed a couple times and stank a few times, fuck it") so it would have hit just as easily and just as hard.

That will do it, especially of your gains are set to -3 or even -6dB for music, then on comes a 0dB sine wave...OUCH!

i'm not surprised you've been playing sweeps at full tilt for pretty much free aired im surprised it lasted this long
i never played any sweeps free air
when i got the sub I used a tone generator, which I have done a milliion times, which did NOTHING to the sub
I made vids doing sine sweeps in a box, which Ive done a million times, and did NOTHING to the sub
I was in a pnich and mixed music with sine sweeps, and while driving along it went from music to sweeps. That did it.

So my old amp didnt like 2ohms at all, so it clipped and made the 18 stink once in a while. The 18 didn't like it when my CD went from music to sine sweeps.
After a couple hard bottoms, she's makin a little noise. Sounds like former scraping pole piece/gap and unwinding coil soon.
So I'll be getting a recone kit, but either I will throw the BXI on there 1700 RMS @ 2 ohm, or if I manage to sell it and get the 2500.1... I will have some REAL fun! I am 21 cubes tuned to 33Hz
I'll be making vids with the shitty cam and the good one.

I bid on a KX2500.1 2 weeks ago and lost, winner never paid. i was offered a 2nd chance.

Not saying I never did it, cause I defintely did. Louder you are, more chance for a problem.
a 130 db sub setup is no where as bad as a 150+ setup. Some amp companys will tell u no warranty if mounted on box!
if 150dB is a problem, that means 130 is too just not as much... same problems, just takes longer to have it
