These are hands down the best sounding "big subs" I have ever heard. I still love mine and it's fun when the haters hate... Ask Sensia
how much power are you planning on throwing at them? atleast 10k?
They get loud with less than that. If you want a SPL geared sub you should be looking at Mayhems or BTLs or the like. Yea Steve throws 7k at his, Trippi did the same, and that one dude with the Tahoe did 9k each... They all share the same stigma, high 50's. If you are out for numbers you shouldn't be looking at SMDs, but if you are out for a fantastic sounding sub (even with my wimpy 3kw each) you can't go wrong.
Yes I definatily want it to be loud, but I want it to sound great also, that's the main reason I chose the SMD!

SWEET Im thinking of getting one too, but not until after the end of the year. What are you going to put them in? I want to see pic.
Goin in a07 Tahoe, and I'm guessing it will arrive next week, do a pic then
Nice I have an 02 Tahoe. What kind of box you going with?
Probably about 10 cubes tuned to 30 hz. My buddy designs my boxes with bass box pro, so whatever he thinks is best

I tried grounding the RCAs, but still didn't work. Also I noticed if I unplug the RCAs from the amp the whine stops, however if I only unplug the RCAs from the deck the whine gets worse. Could my deck or amp possibly be messed up? Or is there anything else I could try?
If the whine gets WORSE when you unplug the RCAs from the HU, then your HU is completely ruled out as a cause (or at least the only cause, lol, in my battles with alt whine I've always had to fix multiple causes, but take them one at a time). Try running a new pair of RCAs over your seats from HU to amp and perform the same experiments...
I will try this. Thanks

Ground amp off of battery?
Check grounds to body?
Amp ground to body?
Corrosion on posts?
Power wires secured?
All the wires are grounded to my battery under the hood. I ran my power and grounds from under the hood, so I have a good ground and the connections are secure
-
There's so many variables that could be causing these problem.
I had this problem for awhile.
Headunit ground?
Change rca?
Battery grounds?
Speakers properly secured/ wires secured?
Power antenna ground?
Fuel pumps could cause this sound coming from the speaker...
Yeah it's just so frustrating. I don't believe it's the fuel pump, but I will go back and check these other things when I get home from work

Like the title say's im looking to buy 2 "used" 18's. Im looking for Nightshade v.2s, or 2 SMD's, both being dual 1 ohm. Pm me if you have either with your prices. Thanks

I will give this a try , thanks
No problem, let me know how it goes.
Also, here is a picture to help you out with it if you need.
Not my picture. Have seen it on here before, just found it with a quick google search.
thank you sir..will try it shortly

Just cause they are brand new doesnt mean anything. had whine from the get go. even changed headunits then after going through everything else, i changed the toughest thing to change..... my rca's. crisp and clean. just saying.
well true, I can't argue that things can't be a defect.
-
I don't know much about JVC so it could be something else, but I would personally ground the RCA's and see if it helps.
I will give this a try , thanks

be sure all your power and ground connections are secure and have all been sanded to bare metal before connections are made. also, have had 2 sets of rca's go bad on me in the last 3 years. Could just be the rca's. also, have you done the big 3 at all?
The power and ground are secure, and I just bought the RCAs brand new, and yes I've done the big 3. This is a head scratcher for me
-
Are you running a Pioneer deck?
If so, ground your RCA's. Pioneers are known for this issue.
I'm running a jvc kw-nt3hdt
-
Okay I just put my 4 channel in and now I have a bad wine through my door speakers. My power and ground are both on the drivers side coming from the battery under the hood, and my RCAs are on the passenger side. Any idea what could be causing it? Please help! Thanks for your time in advance
