  1. Yes this true... I mean generally speaking 12's 2-2.5 cuft , 15's 3-5 cuft, 18's 5-8+ per woofer any obviously it depends greatly on the woofer, and what your trying to accomplish with your build.

You could put them in a box on the smaller side, say 4-5 cuft per woofer. but in my experience cramming woofers into barely or even less than enough airspace isnt ideal. Give em some room to really breath and do work :P

if the specs say 4-10, you could do it, would it be ideal? prolly not. would it sound much better and be louder with more airspace? most likely yes

Yeah i see what you mean. well thanks for the help everyone. and anymore comments from your guys experiences with building boxes are always welcome. lets problems i have the easyer it will be lol.

  2. Woofer displacement is the room the sub will take up inside the box. A 18" BTL has a displacement of .18 cuft. Two of them is .36. So you have to take that into consideration for the box size and tuning. So if you had a 10 cuft box before the displacement, than after the two BTL's displacement (.36) you would have a box that's 9.64 cuft. Same thing applies for brace displacement. Say you have two 2x4 running from front to back that are 20" long. Thats .18 cuft of displacement you also have to take into consideration. So your 10 cuft box now becomes 9.46 cuft.

The slot port on top and subs below will work good...

wow that really clears alot up. thanks for making that cut and dry. i see alot of people talking about fiberglassing the inside. Thats just for extra strength? and are 2x4s the way to go when bracing?

  3. I have 2 18" btls with 2 AQ3500s. and i want to build a "wall" in the back of my ranger for them. the room i have is about 36" high 15" deep and 48" wide. Im not looking for someone to design it for me. i want to learn and understand how the ports work. I see that its there slot or aero port. and i was going to do a slot port towards the top with the subs at the bottom. im using the cal. that torres made and i dont understand what the woofer displacement or brace displacement means. i know i probably got myself in way over my head if i want it tuned to anything but now i have to learn and this seems like a awesome place to learn. Thanks for any help.

  4. Ok i see... 2 alternators is absolutely needed? even with a 270 amp alternator? Im clearly still learning about all this stuff so any help is great.

Unless your amp REQURIES a 16v setup just keep your 270 amp alternator and run it at a healthy constant 14.4.

yeah it doesnt but @ 16volts it will give the speakers everything that needs. i guess that can just be something that comes later on.
