  1. my current car battery is slacking on powering my system as of lately... looking to upgrade to an AGM battery but not sure of the specs and features i would need so supply the efficient amount of power my cars electrical and audio system needs.

i dont need a high performance battery. just a standard entry level battery but still better than my current as my primary battery under the hood at get the job done.

    2002 toyota avalon

    4 gauge wiring all around

    big 3 upgrade

    stock alt n starter/stock battery?

    1000 watts rms

the current battery did me fine for the longest without any problems other than the typical light dimming all while bumping at high volumes on the daily.

now that the weathers been a lot colder my battery is suffering even more after all the beating its been taken over time...

  2. soo i used to be able to bump my system for long periods of time with no problems at all but this past week i noticed that now when i have my system turned up to what i normally listen to(23/35).. the sub bass starts to cut out on heavy low bass parts. i turn the volume back down a bit(12-15/35) n the sub bass comes back on. if i keep the volume anywhere below 15 the sub bass never cuts out. i turn it back up(20-23) n it can play sub bass but cuts on n off from heavy loud bass.

i also noticed the cars battery isnt as strong n not sure when was the last time the battery was changed. when i turn the key in the ignition the car is slower to kick over n start than before all interior/head lights dim more than usual on heavy low bass so im guessing the battery is whats not giving out enough power on loud heavy low bass parts n if i replace the old battery with a new one my problem would go away n i can go back to bumping it as loud as i want with no problems again?!

much appreciated if anyone can help me out or give any other suggestions on solving my bass problem!!

  3. the sub isnt new, i bought it used off craigslist still in good condition but im afraid i might be damaging it.

so ill turn the bass boost off but what about my gain setting? im afrait to turn it more than half and distort the sub or clip the amp but so far the amp never went into protection mode.

the amp will NOT protect if it clips. it doesnt really care if it sends out a square wave.

bass boost amplifies a specific frequency so having that up can cause clipping just like the gain does. just use a multimeter and tune it the rite way. there is nothing else to say.

im still a rookie when it comes to car audio and the thing is i dont have a multi meter and wouldnt know how to tune my amp with one if i had one.

any info on this process would be much appreciated!

  4. i recently installed my sound system into my 2002 toyota avalon with the factory jbl premium speakers. im running an alpine cda-105 head unit 12" alpine type x subwoofer kicker zx 1000.1 with a kicker 4 gauge power/ground wiring kit.

for the amp tuning process, i turned my head unit up to 28 out of 35 and turned the bass treble and any other eqs on the head unit off with the subwoofer setting all the way up (15 out of 15) n played a bass test at 50 hz.

i have my gain right now set at a lil more than halfway (about 1 o'clock) and the bass boost at about a quarter (about 9-10 o'clock)

im pretty satisfied on the loudness n the way it sounds and hits. the kicker amp defiantly makes it sound a lot better then the other random amp i had before but i noticed that i smelled either my voice coils heating up or the amp? not sure what it is n im worried about damaging the sub or amp.

it doesnt really smell like the coils r badly BURNING but u can definitely smell something when i pop the trunk open. if anyone can help me out or give me advice on what to do please let me know.

    thanks in advance!
