If you can't be "arsed" with caps lock i'm sure none of the people @ RF can be "arsed" with your problem.

FIFTEEN PSI? How much power is it making...?
-
I didn't realise changing the engine grounds would drastically change the performance, appreciated. Now as far as the oscrilloscope, where can I get one, average cost, and how the hell do I use it lol.
You can find them online and yes as mentioned a few posts above, they are quite expensive. Steve Meade is working with Tony from Rockford Fosgate on a new device that will tell you whether you are clipping your gains or not. Check out his YouTube channel for more information.

I'll test that smell out when I'm off work tomorrow at a park or something I really would like to know, it's literally just an odd smell that will happen after a little bit of bumpin. OH and the amp I currently have is Quantum Audio 2k rms amp but I'm going to switch to a Crescendo Audio BC3500 whenever I get it. I was just really more concerned on the ground wire/power wire if it could cause it to mess anything up seriously and if so could it cause this off smell.
If your gains were not set with an oscilloscope make that top priority along with making your power and ground wires the same gauge.

I trust the guy, believe me, he wasn't trying to cheat me out of money he's always willing to answer my stupid questions and recommends things to me and gives me honest opinions. He showed me the pricing that he gets on the wire and charged me that so it wasn't anything money, I'm sure of that. It's not burning it's just like a smell I've never smelled before. It's hard for me to discribe but it happens after excess bumpin.
Mine starts smelling if I bump it loud but it's the smell of the wood off my box. Does your smell sound similar?
-
I'd guess about 2'? There was more to what he said but I have such terrible memory, we got into a huge conversation on everything so it slipped out of my head. I asked the wire question to him 1 cuz it didn't seem right and 2 I've been noticing a slight smell so when I looked I noticed that and wondered if my amp was getting something wrong. No smoke on anything it's just when I'm playing upwards of 20 mins I smell something so made me wonder.
What does it smell like? If it's a burning/smoking smell then something is definitely burning. Were your gains set with an oscilloscope?
-
He was saying because it's not a far distance from the ground - amp it wouldn't matter as much that the ground was only a 4 gauge. It didn't seem right, so I figured I'd ask.
I wouldn't go back to this installer again if I were you nor would I recommend any of your friends to him either. Your power & ground wires must always be the same size.
-
Your power and ground wires should both be the same size to maintain a balance. The "big 3" upgrade allows more electrical current to flow which in return gives you more power to use.

Those suckers sure pack a punch!

The worst part is all during social studies this morning we talked about wether or not we even have true freedom in this life. Class decided we are not free as americans. Makes me sick what the majority thinks.
Rest In Peace and thanks to all whom serve.
It's just like the saying goes, you don't know what you have until you lose it and most teenagers don't truly understand the freedom we have in America compared to other countries unfortunately. May God bless the souls of those that fell in honor while protecting us.

I also got very scared haha. I actually thought the driver was injured until I saw him move the camera after the accident and if it is real then that must suck for the dude recording.

my big 4 included a wire from battery + to my fuse box. figured i would help get some power to my car, and it was needed.
How exactly would I install the wire from the positive terminal to the fuse box?
-
And find out how small of a pulley you can put on your Alt... Should be a cheap little upgrade
I will definitely take a look into that. Thank you very much for the suggestions and help everyone.
-
I doubt i'm going to do either of those on this particular car as it is just a daily driver that I plan to sell once I get a job and save up as it has too many things that need repair. I will do the "big 3" upgrade though and hopefully my voltage will improve a little from that. Thank you everyone for your inputs.
-
What you're saying if i'm not mistaken is to run an extra ground from my alternator mount to my negative battery terminal correct?
-
~13.5 to ~14.5
But it should still be charging at 12.8 iirc 12v batteries can charge starting ~12.7
If i'm not mistaken with the research I just did, aren't those two basically the same thing except one allows for a more finer tuning?
-
I won't argue with that. The car is 17 years old and the alternator has never been replaced so I wouldn't be surprised but thank you anyway. Just for my knowledge, what should my voltage reside at during idle with a normal alternator?
-
Big 4, batteries, alt, mla, vcm,
Could you clarify on the fourth wire upgrade and the last two things you mentioned for me please?
-
Hi guys I wanted to know what I could possibly do to lessen my voltage drops when playing music. During idle, the voltage stays around 12.8V and drops to around 10V on full tilt. I know that I definitely need to do the "big 3" upgrade but will that alone do the trick or what else should I be considering?
-
Thanks a lot for your post. I'm trying to keep the full interior with the sound system otherwise I would have removed the rear seats by now.
-
Hi guys this is my first ever system and I still have plans for it but this is what I am currently at. Yesterday, I built the false floor with my friend so I could actually mount everything and give it a cleaner look. I also did my best with tucking the wires so please don't bash on that. If anyone has any suggestions/ideas on how to make the setup look any neater please share them.
Front: 1 pair of 6.5" Sony coaxial speakers
Rear: None as of now
Subwoofer: 12" MD Sound
Amplifier: BZA 3000D
My future plans are to add rear 6x9 speakers and tweeters and an amplifier for my speakers along with the "big 3" upgrade as my lights are dimming currently.
How To?
