  1. Whoa Sir.

It seems you have a long way to go before you really understand what's going on.

Slow down a little. If you don't know exactly what's going on, and you let a shop do all your work, maybe you need to continue to let them. Also, talk everything over with them about deciding a amp, and let them install it.

If your willing to learn I'm sure somebody will help you. But it seems you need to understand quiet a bit before you run into problems.

I am having the shop install it. But all I needed to know was what amp I should get that wa the original reason for this post. None of the shops around me could tell me anything about dc so I read bout them on the Internet and heard my friends lvl4 15" and decided I'd get all the parts and then have the shop install it like I did with the last set. But one shop by me keeps pushin me to buy powerbass xl 12" for what I wanna do but I haven't ever heard the subs and the amps box and subs would be between 600-800. I looked at their specs compared to the lvl 4 and they weren't as loud. Then the other shop tells me I should buy jl cuz that's what they sell. They sell jl and soundstream. But they said I should buy two w6, but I don't have 450 to spend on each sub. Plus they still aren't as loud as the dc.

Basically I just wanna know what I'm gonna need to get these subs to work the way I want them to.

So far I've been told to avoid the second battery to get a 2 farad capacitor (by the car shop). To get the subs. Then I'm gonna need to know if I'm gonna have to build or have a thicker box made for them, because the w7 the one shop tried to sell me at first needed to have a thicker box made for them. And I need to know what size amp to run to these subs.

Hope the shop doesn't burn up your car. Anyway then refer to my other posts get 2 D1 LVL4s and a DC 2.0k. It'll run the subs at RMS and the shop or you will probably clip them to shit and blow them but on the off chance they don't then itll work how you want them to

What does the D1 stand for. And what is clipping?

  2. You do not need a second battery to run 2000 watts.

Do not get a capacitor though it is not a battery replacement and can actually do more damage than good to your electrical system.

A sound system is more than just some subs and an amp...and if you want to be successful you have to be willing to learn. You should read some of the stickies on this forum to find out information about electrical systems, sub boxes, and setting amplifiers. Also in I think general audio there is a sticky that has car audio terms defined.

The car shops and everyone around where I'm from has a second battery and or a capacitor for their systems. And most aren't even as big as the lvl4 system I wanna get. Cuz there headlights dim and stuff. Right now mine dim just with the system that I have. And I'm just wondering but what damage would the capacitor do to my electrical system and they said I need the capacitor cuz I would have the 2000 watt amp for my subs and whatever it is I have for my door speakers. And what are the stickies you were talking about. And where do I find the definitions for the terms I need to know?

  4. Well. Some of my friends first systems were even bigger than this. And they just put the subs and extra battery and the amp they needed into the cars they have.

One of the managers where I work told me that it would be cheaper for me to get a capacitor instead of a second battery and it would save space. He use to install car stereos for a living.

I went to the car audio shop and asked what size capacitor I would need and they told me that since I wanna run a 1500-2000 watt amp (thats the size people have been telling me I need) plus the 4channel jl amp I have running to my 4 jl door speakers. My head unit is an alpine. And idk what gauge wire I have it's just whatever the car shop put into my car cuz they put it all in.

The reason idk any of the acronyms and what all the slang terms and names for everything and what they do is cuz I just started getting into car audio earlier this year and no one can tell me what everything is and means.

The setup I wanna get is the equivalent of what was recommended to me by car shops around here but it's gonna be cheaper. This setup was recomended by a friend.

  5. Is this your first system? Maybe you should start with something smaller. I don't want to see you drop 2k and blow it all.

This is my second system I'm trying to get the money to buy whatever I need. And I'm also trying to find out what everything is that I'm gonna need and why. Right now I have a kenwood kac-7202 amp and two Rockford fosgate p2 punches.

  6. RMS is just like a recommended wattage. 1 watt would make a speaker move, just not alot.

    Whats your elecrical? Alternator, batteries?

Idk. What does each do for the system. I dont have a second battery I just have the one, it's not the battery that came in the car though. The alternator is the same one that came in the car and idk what you mean by electrical.

  7. Read around a lot on here before you attempt running thousands of watts.

The LVL4's are a 1000wrms sub so 2 of them need 2000wrms. If you get them both with D1 coils you can run them at 1 ohm so you are looking for an amp that puts out 2000 watts RMS at one ohm. The DC 2.0k would be my recommendation.

Here's how to wire them at a 1 ohm load:

    2_1ohm_dvc_1ohm.gif

Would that be under powering them though? Since their rms is 1000 and the amp would be putting 1000 into each of them. So it wouldnt it be putting just enough watts into each sub to get them to work? people have told me that the rms is the amount of power it takes to get the subs to actually work right? And I wanna compete over the summer so would 2k be enough? If im wrong please correct me and explain. (<-- thats not sarcasm I joined this forum so I could learn about the stuff that I don't know)

  8. Depends on the ohm load you will be running at and level of skill and knowledge.

If you want to be cautious get a DC 2.0k. If you know what you're doing get a DC 3.5k

but know that if you aren't careful with the power you can cook the subs. I'll personally

have a DC 3.5k on my 2 LVL4 12's when I get the amp in at the beginning of nextmonth.

What is the ohm load? And like idk what my experience level is. I've only had two 12" Rockford fosgate p2 punches. With a kenwood kac 7202. And one of The coils is separating from the cone in my left sub. The guy at the car shop told me it was because the amp I was running to it was to much for those subs to be played the way I play them. They said I flexed them to much.

  9. So, I am getting two level 4 dc subs but I dont know what kind of amp I should get. I plan on competing in competitions, I dont know if that matters on what size amp I should get or not, but I do not wanna blow these. I need to know what size and brand I should get and why. Any serious suggestions would be appreciated.
