  1. the receiver is an Alpine CDE-103BT

some p.o.s. I bought at best buy.

    /lowers head in shame

I have never tested any alpine head units so testing would be best.

from what I can find on alpine head units if the volume only goes into the 20's then stay at a max of 25 if it goes into the 30's the then like 34.. Thats what other people have tested there alpines clipping at.... but you need tools to test to make sure all output voltage is matched.

  2. Ok don't turn your head unit all the way up because it will clip the signal Im not sure what head unit you have but I would keep the volume at like 5 under the highest. If you can get a DD-1 or a O'Scope to test you're signal and see where it clips or distorts

would the clipping/distortion be caused due to the speakers not being able to handle it? the amp? not properly adjusted? I'm intent on upgrading something anyway. have money I'm supposed to use to buy a new cell phone but would rather it go into my car audio setup. ;)

Sorry I have not been by my computer all day.. no all head units clip at a certain volume you need an O'scope or something to test this. With the right tools you can test the output voltage from the head unit and once you do that the you match you're amps output (gain setting) with you're head unit.... not having this set right will cause clipping...

  3. set your eq to flat get a dd-1 adjust your amps and your good to go. make sure to follow what DK 99 said and your done.

ok I set bass/sub woofer to 0 and drove around for like 30min with the volume at 35(highest my Alpine receiver goes to). Everything seemed to play fine just that occasionally if a song had some intense high's I'd hear really slight distortion just on those parts.

  4. I have been comparing pics of my rubicon 2500.1 guts to other rubicon 2500.1s and it seems a little different. Does it look like my amp is a true rubicon?

Are they the same model? If they are 2 different years the would be different

Edit TRTC360 you beat me to it

  5. I have a 15in dc level 3 hooked up to a massive audio n2 nano block amplifier running at 1ohm. When i crank it i get major voltage drops and was wondering whether to invest in a small agm battery or ho alternator? I have already done the big 3 and it is only a 70amp alternator now. Thanks

First of all yes get a battery it will help a lot. What size wire are you running? an alt would always help..

  6. yes on all that except that the amp is on the floor in the middle(left-side) of the van. although granted the floor.is generally a 'cool' area.

on the stereo I have "bass level" set to +/-0 and under "subwoofer" it's set to + 10.

So if you have a RCA pre out for the sub do you also have an RCA pre out for the highs... If you don't have 2 runs of rca's from the stereo to the back I would turn down the subwoofer setting and see if it happens again.

    Anybody else want to add

  7. is that 13.5v at the amp itself? or at the battery/volt meter on the dash.

The volt meter wired to the alternator.

Im not sure but I don't think wiring the volt meter to the alt was the best idea you would only be getting that voltage. If you hooked it up to you're amp or the back batts you would have gotten a better voltage reading of what the amp was getting. the big 3 does help a lot. Yes you where dropping from 14 to 13.5 at Idle with the reading from the alt but what was the amp getting?

  8. I've got a pair of PolkAudio dxi6500 components in the doors and a PolkAudio pa660 amp powering them(a long with some 4x6 Polk's in the rear pillars + Kicker 6" in the rear doors.

So far I've blown a tweeter twice & was told that it's because of the amp. Today I went to a local shop and they commented on the amp runnibg a bit hot but said that the amp is fine and recommended I upgrade the components instead.

I thought it was the amp and was going to change it out but now that these guys are saying differently I don't know what I should do. What do you guys think?

If its running hot check grounds and make sure you have proper airflow to cool it down. and for the tweets do they have a inline crossover? I blew my first set cause I had the bass on the headunit almost all the way up.

yes on the crossover and I made sure to turn the bass all the way down on the amp as the bass is being handled by the Kicker dx500.1 in the rear going to the 2x12 Kicker comps.

Even if the bass is turned down On the high amp if you have bass coming from you're stereo it could blow the tweeters

So each tweet has it's own inline crossover?

Grounds for amp are properly done?

    speakers are hooked up correctly?

and good airflow for the amp?

  10. hi everyone im new here and i have come to a problem that i can't seem to fix.

    I have

two 1/0 gauge wires that need to be fuse,

two 4 gauge wires that need to be fused,

0ne 4 gauge wire non fused and

one 8 gauge wire none fused

these wires all are going to the positive terminal and it looks like Medusa's head lol.

I have now bought a red cap and it has two positive terminals.

so here is the question what is the nicest way to set this up?

I was looking for a fused distribution box for two 1/0 gauge and two 4 gauge but I cant find one

anywhere. Does anybody know where i can get one or what else would look nice?

p.s. this is going under the hood.

Can I ask why you have all that wire? What for? Are you running these wires to a battery in the back? Little more info on you're setup

If you have a Battery in the back just run the two 1/0 runs back to the battery and use a distribution block from there.

    Try this
