Here is a 240 amp Ford alternator we built and shipped today for a customer.
Hopefully the music starts working soon. LOL

you don't know what the actual engine rpm would be? -
Here is a 380 amp 2001 tahoe alt.
The belt slipped at around 51 seconds... I just left it on peak hold and ramped the load up again. Belt started to slip a little right at the end.

The regulator is preset to 15.0 volts.
I wish I could have saw what your wrote the first time.
Why would it make a difference what the voltage was before loaded? Just curious.

Just out of curiosity, why was the voltage at 15.0 volts before the load was placed on the alternator? Does the setpoint if the regulator you use start off that high? -
I use an 800 amp variable carbon pile load. You pretty much just turn the knob to the current you want to pull from the alt. I will vid the load next time around.

what is actually loading the alts down? is it a big resistor bank/ heater thing like a battery tester? or is it something else? -

dom can you test a dual set up to see what its output is. hint hint nudge nudge lol. -
Anywhere from 125 to 225. Depends on the car. Crank pulley diameter and idle rpm makes a big difference.

What are these 300amp+ alts doing at idle? -
Depends on the regulator. Some regulators will hold voltage until the alt maxes out. Some just gradually fall off with more load. Depends on the car sometimes.
Did you notice that from the vid?

so once you reach the max amperage of the alt if you add more load the volts start dropping? -
Here is a 300 amp alt going out today to a customer. 2004 Tahoe single alt. Nothing out of the ordinary. No external regulator. All internal.

If a belt slips its either too loose or belt is old and no good.
If you notice we use a V-Belt on your tester and it never slips. We keep the belt in good shape.

since we are on the subject on eclipses'how well do the 240s act on sohc 3000gts?
I have been told that 250 amp alts have slipping problems...but i would love to run them if they work...

Here is another one for a customer with a 2004 Mitsubishi Eclipse. A little external regulation action goin' on.
He got the 240 amp model. Direct bolt on. NO brackets, extra hardware, etc. Same case style as factory. Take the old one off, put the new one, upgrade wires.. your done. No wondering if it will fit or not. ;)

In the EXACT 3G factory housing 260 amps.
The 350 amp alt in your sig will not be a 3G alt like your factory.

Nah.. LOL. It does take 2 of em' tho. One motor will do around 240-250 amps at max rpm. So 2 handles it no problem.

The one I just tested was your stock location alt.

what does a single 1500amp alt look like? -
I hand built our alt test station with a lot of balls and few frills.
It has 4-5hp motors for a total of 20hp. There are 5 different size pullies so you get 10 different rpm ranges with 2 different alt pullies.
I wish it was infinitely adjustable but its a monster when it comes to raw power!!!! Ill take that over rpm tweaking. There are plenty of rpm options. I can always use different size alt pullies to come up with any rpm needed.
I have built single alts up to 1500 amps and needed some serious tester capability as far as horsepower. That is why its like that.

oh so you dont have a speed control? the motor is just one speed?you always point out that the alt speed is different in every car so im just trying to learn

Yes, hwy speeds.
Idle output on the car is so relative. Crank pulley diameter, alt pulley diameter, actual engine idle rpm, engine bog when alt is loaded, etc.
But to answer your question... between 125 and 210. Most cars will be around 140-160 amps at idle.

what will that Alt put out at idle?1700-2000 Engine RPM would be highway speed right?
Iraggi Alternator 320 amp bench test. 338 amps at 15.4 volts. No drop. :)
