  1. Rockford T4K. You could go with a Kicker ZX2500.1 @ 2 ohms, that would give you around 1350 watts to each sub.
  2. Look @ my build pics. I used some 1/2 inch bolts. http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...showtopic=41888
  3. Setting your gains properly is even more important if you have a high end radio with high preout voltage. The higher the voltage on your rca's the lower your gain will need to be set @.
  4. You need to properly set the gain on your amp. This is how I have always set the gain on my amps without a oscope: Most audio equipment dies for one simple reason. Most people push their equipment beyond its limits. Whether it is the amplifier, subwoofer or full range speakers, clipping is the number one cause of failure. To prevent clipping, use this tutorial. To figure out what voltage you should set the gains to, multiply the RMS power of the amplifiers output by the impedance of the speaker, then find the square root of that number. If you are using an amplifier that has an RMS rating of more than your speaker(s) can handle/rated for, then use the RMS rating of the speaker (instead of the RMS of the amplifier) to determine the voltage to set your amp to. This is also referred to as gaining down. Gain Setting Equation Voltage of the output = sqrt(RMS Power of amp X impedance of the speaker) Example Say the amp provides 2700WRMS into a 2 ohm speaker: (zx2500.1 & solo x 2 ohm load) Voltage = sqrt(2700W X 2 ohms) Voltage = sqrt(5400W) Voltage = 73.5V Again, that was only an example for this zx 2500.1, use the ratings of your amp to figure that out. Setting the Gain(s) To set the gain(s), you need two things: 1. A DMM (digital multi-meter) that is capable of measuring AC voltage (needs to be able to measure up to a range of 200V). 2. A test tone CD to use to set the gains at the correct setting. Now, to set the gain(s): 1. Start the vehicle, and pop the test tone CD in the head unit. 2. DO NOT hook up the sub(s) or speaker(s) to the amplifier while doing this, just leave the outputs unused (unhook your speaker wires) at this time. 3. Now, time to set up the head unit. a. Turn your radio up to the loudest setting that you will be playing it @, set your bass boost, loudness, ect. on your radio, use those settings. NEVER turn the headunit above 3/4 of the maximum volume. b. Remember to have the car turned on. c. If you want to use bass boost on a sub amp, set it prior to setting the gains on the amp and use the center frequency of the bass boost (45 Hz for most amps) as your test tone. d. Please remember that if you have a subwoofer volume control on the headunit and/or a bass knob for the amplifier, set it to the maximum before you set the gains on the sub amp. 4. Take the leads from the DMM and but them on the speaker outputs from the amp. 5. Set the gain so that the outputs of the amplifier equal the voltage you found above. This is pretty important. If you set your gain higher than the voltage you calculated, you will be sending a clipped signal to your speakers. This should get you very close to your clipping point of your amp. If you have access to an oscope you can get it perfect because you will be able to see the sine wave of the test tone note. I added a Gain Settings calculator to my audio calculations spreadsheet. You will need to have microsoft office installed on your computer to use it because it is in microsoft Excel. http://www.3rdcoastcustoms.net/files/3rd_C...Spreadsheet.xls Here are some free test tones you can download & burn to cd. http://www.ronelmm.com/tones/ There is also a link to these tones in the above spreadsheet I made.
  5. @ high volumes it may sound like distortion. Most times you can't hear clipping unless it is really bad. A burnt glue smell from your subs is a good sign that you are clipping the hell out of them!
  6. Sold him an alarm. Sent payment quickly. A+ Buyer
  7. That Q power wire is actually about the size of true 2 gauge. The red jacket on the wire is thick as hell. The phonics digital 4 gauge is actually 8 gauge wire in a 4 gauge jacket.
  8. Thanks for the feedback. Keep it coming fellas
  9. ?Nevermind, I got it! Turn the ignition on & off 8 times. On the 8th time on, the doors lock & unlock. Press the lock button on the key fob. The doors lock & unlock. Turm key off & you are done!
  10. A convenient store just opened up across the street from my house. They hires this guy to paint their awning. He is standing on the very top of a 16 ft ladder & it is windy as hell out here. If he falls, I'll get more pics!
  11. I took weeks 1-8 and it was around $7500 for those courses 4 years ago. Remember if you are not from Houston, you will have to pay for a hotel room too! If you can get together with some friends & split the cost of a room you can save money. Also, when I went, we had guys from all over the country there. Several guys got together & split rooms to save on money. I would highly reccomend weeks 1-5 to anyone looking to make a career in car audio. The masters courses are a waste of money in my opinion. This place is set up like a very high end shop. You will see alot of tools there that your local shops have never heard of. The MECP test is not easy & you will have to study & not go out & party every night, atleast for the 1st week. They have some good installers working there & Roger Hill, the owner, knows his shit!
  12. I went to Acoustic Edge in Houston to get MECP certified. I would highly reccoment taking their weeks 1-5 courses. These are all the skills you will ever need in a car audio shop. I also took the masters courses & I didn't get much out of them at all. I feel like the masters courser were really just refresher courses on technique that you were taught in previous weeks. They also now have alot more classes on home audio, multi media, home alarm installation, custom interior, ect. I would reccomend going to some of these ONLY if you are looking for specific training in these fields. Their MECP & basic car audio weeks 1-5 is all I would do if I knew then what I know now.
  13. Well it kinda depends on what you are hooking up. You have a few auxullary ourputs on that alarm. If you are not hooking up extra stuff like a module for windows up & down, you may not use the auxillary outputs. This GUIDE should tell you everything you need to know.
  14. Although the picture says alot, I'm still gonna need a few details.
  15. I'll download it when I get home next week but it will probably be available tomorrow afternoon. I use MIRC and www.packetnews.com for my search engine. Here is a zip file with MIRC setup & instructions. MIRC UFC 97 should be up by tomorrow afternoon.

  17. Sounds like yet another boring ass Anderson Silva fight to me. It's gonna be difficult for Dana White to continue to market this guy as the worlds best pound for pound fighter if he keeps this shit up. Hell, Chuck getting knocked out was more exciting than that shit!
  18. MAIN EVENT CHAMP ANDERSON SILVA VS. THALES LEITES Round 1 - Silva waits with his hands at his sides early in the fight. The first punch isn't thrown until a minute and 10 seconds into the round, and Silva misses wide with it. Leites goes with a kick that Silva stuffs. The crowd boos mightily as Silva remains extremely patient. Silva stalks and considers throwing a punch, but he's backed off when Leites fakes a flying knee. Halfway through the round, there's been virtually no offense. Silva finally lands a leg kick and then partially blocks Leites' high kick. Silva again stalks but throws no punches. Silva throws an uppercut that's blocked and then trips Leites with a leg kick and stands over him. The referee lets him back up, and Leites grabs a leg looking for the takedown. After fighting for it, he briefly tkaes the fight to the mat. Silva gets back to his feet, and the fighters clinch against the cage as a dreadfully bizarre first round comes to a close. MMAjunkie.com scores it 10-9 for Silva. Round 2 - Both fighters are again slow to engage, and Silva doesn't throw his first kick until 30 seconds in. Leites catches the next one and puts Silva on his back. He frees a leg and works from half guard. He looks to improve the position, but Silva ties up his leg. Leites throw a short punch, but Silva reclaims full guard. Leites can't do anything with the position as Silva clings to him from below. A few hammerfists do little damage, and and when Leites stands over his opponent, Silva just misses an upkick. Silva works his way free, and we're back standing. Silva simply stands in front of Leites with hands at his side. If he's waiting to counter, Leites isn't giving him the opportunity. Silva again goes into stalking mode and backs Leites against the cage, but he doesn't throw anything. The crowd rightfully boos what's turning out to be a mockery of a main event. Leites throws a body kick that's blocked, and both fighters whiff on looping punches. Silva goes with a kick that's blocked, lands a leg kick and closes out the round showered in boos. MMAjunkie.com scores the round 10-9 for Leites, though it's hard to award a round to two fighters who aren't fighting. Round 3 - A touch of gloves gets the third round underway, and Leites throws a leg kick. Silva blocks it and swings with a right and then knocks Leites off balance. Silva stands over him but opts not to do anything about it and lets Leites back up. Leites again trips to the mat when the fighters collide. Silva throws leg kick while standing over him and throws a hammerfists at his shins. Weird gets even weirder. After the referee allows Leites back up, he shoots for a single-leg takedown and then tries to pull guard. He misses, and Leites ends up on his back. Silva waits for him to get back up and then throws some leg kicks. Leites fakes a shoot, and the fighters trade leg kicks. Leites fails on another shot, and Silva walks away as he stands back up. Silva again stalks Leites and then clinches and throws him to the mat. The crowd boos, and Leites is allowed to stand again. The fighters trade low kicks before Silva goes high with one. Silva starts to connect on some punches and sneaks through an uppercut that connects. The jabs and leg kicks continue is Silva follows him around the cage. When Leites misses another takedown attempt, Silva turns his back and walks away. Leites shoots again and fails, and the referee allows him back up. MMAjunkie.com scores another odd round for Silva, 10-9. Round 4 - We now enter championship-round terriroty with round four. Leites thinks about shooting but backs off when Silva scrambles away. Silva lands some low kicks and continues chopping away with front and side kicks to his opponent's shins. Silva starts bobbing his head like a dope and snapping off leg kicks. He's clearly toying with Leites now. Leites misses on a high kick. Silva answers with one that partially connects. Silva throws another front kick to the shin, apparently content with trying to break a leg. Silva throws leg kicks and short punches until Leites clinches and again tries to force the fight to the mat. Silva stuffs it and again throws side kicks to the shins. The people who paid perfectly good money for their seats let out some more boos. The pace slows, and "boring! boring!" chants fill the arena. Leites shoots and fails, and Silva stands over him and taunts him while slapping away his legs. Dreadful. Just dreadful. MMAjunkie.com scores it 10-9 for Silva. Round 5 - Thankfully, this trainwreck is about over. A touch of gloves gets us underway, and Silva lands a leg kick. Leites becomes a little more aggressive, but neither fighter lands or even throws much. Leites shoots for the takedown, Silva avoids it, Leites again grabs a leg, but Silva collapses on top of him. Silva, though, gets back to his feet and waits for the referee to stand Leites. Back on the mat somehow, and hey look, Silva's throwing punches. Oh wait, he backs off and allows Leites to do the same. Perfectly reasonable "Bullsh--!" chants fill the arena with two-and-a-half minutes to go. Silva walks around and considers engaging before throwing a few jabs and fending off the latest Leites' takedown attempt. "GSP! GSP!" chants now rain down as we all think of better times. Leites shoots. He misses. And Silva swarms in! Oh wait, no he didn't. He backs off and waits for Leites to get back up. Silva catches a high kick and knocks Leites to the mat. Once back up Leites now has a steady flow of blood coming from his nose. Honestly, I'm bored even typing this. I can only imagine how the people must feel he dished money for their tickets and traveled hundreds of miles. Anyway, MMAjunkie.com scores it 10-9 for Silva, and this debacle is finally over. 21. CHUCK LIDDELL VS. MAURICIO "SHOGUN" RUA Round 1 - Not since Rich Franklin fought in Cincinnati have I heard a crowd so in favor of a fighter; Chuck Liddell is a hero here north of the border. Most of the soldout crowd remains standing, and we're underway with the night's co-main evet. Liddell with an early inside leg kick. The fighters dance, and Rua backs away from a right. Rua goes with a head kick and misses but partially connects on a left-right combo. Rua gets through an overhand right, but Liddell starts countering and landing with frequency. Rua wisely retreats and regroups. Back to the center of the cage, Rua lands a right. The fighters again trade with nothing landing solidly. Rua lands an overhand right. Rua shoots, grabs Liddell around the waste, and drags Liddell to the mat. Liddell stands, and Rua locks on a leg lock. Liddell patiently squirms free and gets back to his feet. Liddell lands a few punches, eats a counter right, fends off a takedown and then goes back to the center of the cage. Liddell ducks under a punch and takes Rua to the mat, but he quickly decides to stand and let Rua up. Rua catches and drops Liddell. He follows him to the mat and pops him with hammerfists until the referee jumps in and stops the fight. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua def. Chuck Liddell via TKO (strikes) - Round 1, 4:28.
