  1. I have tried two times in the past 2 weeks to try to register on there and I am still waiting on the email from the website to activate...
I've been waiting 3 weeks. Even tried 2 different e-mail addresses but got nothing.
Ya know that's funny because I've now got a buddy who cant register on it either.

    Wonder what the deal is?

Maybe it's an exclusive only site now. ;)

If you, or anyone you know doesn't get the email for registration, PM me with the username you signed up with and I will make it happen.

    Sorry for your inconvienence.

It is definatly not an exclusive forum. I want everyone to join and enjoy.

I just spend the better part of my Saturday gathering How-To's and make a place for them to be viewed without having to search very long.

I definatly want them to be seen and read. may help. ANd it may inspire you to help us.

  2. i called airbagit.com

Do yourself a favor and lose that phone number.

And as just mentioned, pretty sure the engine crossmember is what holds the cars up.

If you and your buddy can do some fab work, you can make a newer, lower profile crossmember.

Also, you may have to look into different wheels. The offset/width may not allow for proper laying.

So you have decisions, there is no perfect answer here. Time and fab work. Money and wheels. AC or windows.

  4. just my opinion but the more resin the fleece soaks up makes it stronger so you reinforce less which makes it easier to work with and you won't cut thru easily when sanding.

You couldn't be more wrong with that assesment.

Just to save some time, I will quote myself from another thread.........

The matting is what gives it strength to begin with.

When you use a material, like fleece (Ponte' prefered), to get the initial shape of a pod and then resin it, it cures hard but is brittle. Just like resin alone is brittle, so is a peice of resined fleece, sheet, etc.

Fiberglass matting is just that, fiberglass. That is where the strength comes from. Mat also takes alot less resin to wet out than other materials. So by using the mat, your not only getting the proper strength in your project, you saving money and using less product that you will have for the next project you take on.

Here is a thread of 2 materials tested side by side for strength and durability and the amount of resin needed to get a shape. So with no matting, this is how your whole project would be. This was just done as a test for initial shapes till the mat was applied.

  5. You weld in a peice of sheet metal trimmed to fit the spot where the handle was after you remove it all.

3M does make a panel bond for use in place of welding in certain situations, but welding is better. I have seen the 3M used for this before, and it was holding up but it had only been a few months and I do not know how they are now.

The door gets alot of use and bumping into. So you need it to be solid so it doesn't crack or show thru.

If welded correctly, you use little body filler to level it out.

As for 'glassing it over.....negative. See above for reasoning.

The fiberglass will adhear to the metal for a short time, then it will eventually give and start cracking.

For the paint fix....... that depends on the paint that is currently there. Most paints can be feathered in. I would recommend clearing the whole door though.

  6. Congrats.

Not only was your truck loud, it sounded good doing it also.

And once things got going, it was pretty good. I felt the advertising for the show was lacking or we could have had many more sign up. There were alot of vehicles riding around playing that didn't sign up. But it wasn't bad.
