^^ Correct.
Use them both.
Connect your OEM wiring AND 1/0 cables directly from the alternator to the primary battery using the lugs provided. Improperly sized lugs can cause heat damage to the rectifier. Do not ground it to the engine, chassis or anything other than the battery negative.
why cant it be grounded to the chassis?
170 amp 6 phase voltage alternator question
in MechMan Alternators and 12v Accessories
Posted
hey guys, i bought a mechman alt for my car that is a 6 phase and puts out a max of 171 amps around a month ago or less. i relocated the battery to the rear cargo area (hatchback) i have done "the big 3" done to my car and have a 1 awg cable going from my battery (+) to the alt and a 2 awg mechman cable going from the (-) of the battery to the casing of my alternator along with another 1 awg cable grounding it also inn the engine bay. my question is, when i start my car the voltage starts at 14.2V and once i drive around a little while the voltage drops to 13.6 at idle with nothing on or with everything on (radio, lights, car,ac fan) is this voltage normal? my car idles at 1k rpm i have a redtop optima with a resting voltage of 12.6V (after 2 days of sitting) and its a larger one. i think 800 or 1000 cca.
