  1. If its that good of a deal its probably a scam, look at it as a $157 gamble. If it shows up you win, if it doesn't you loose.

My lady ordered a really nice leather furniture set for like $700 online a year and a half ago, it never showed up. lost the money, then she ordered from a reputable source, a $1000 leather furniture set, it was totally legit, right? I made her investigate the company and all that because of the first burn, turns out its totally legit through research online. and what happens, we lost $1000. Challenged the bank on it, never heard anything back, money is gone and the phone number which was a cell phone was later disconnected. So, from my experience of loosing lots of cash for no reason and wanting to shoot people, only order online from trusted known retailers. Or better yet shop local, I ordered a set of rims once, and ended up having to call them every day for 2 months before they finally sent me some wheels that weren't even what I had originally ordered, which they said would be there in 3 days originally. after 2 weeks they told me that style was not available after I already paid for them, then they told me what they had that would fit on my car, which was like the choice of 3 or 4 different rims.

you might pay more money shopping local, but in the long run, if you have an issue you can drive it up there immediately to get it sent off and fixed without hassle.

  2. sub weighs 76 78lbs.. far from 90

and nicce anything gets loud in a crx.. also how was that hole to cut out? i sure had a terrable time lol.. trace the bottom of the motor get sstuck 1/2 way in take it out recut etc etc..took me 40mins to make 1 sub hole..

several websites were saying 90lbs, probably shipping wieght, I just looked at one site audiosavings, and they claim they are 92 http://www.audiosavi...D2/XXX12D2.aspx, ebay says 90lb on multiple auctions, wasn't trying to misinform anyone, but I have yet to see a site that does not say they are 90+ pounds.

  3. Yea, its the new one that is heavy as hell. The sub is like 14" in height & the mounting hole is 11.5. It is a crazy huge 12" woofer.

Found it locally & decided I would give it a shot for kicks. Somthing to bump untill I get my hands on another gp3000dpro & hook up with a single 18" in there hehe.

Thanks man, it sounds pretty decent on the low bass. Sound quality is all good except for the fact it wont touch higher bass to much but I like my bass low anyways 25hz-35hz range.

My last setup in the rex was a rd audio alpha 15 in 4 cubes @ 28hz. It would do 142-144 from 29hz-50hz. I have a video of it on my youtube as well.

Its enough to hold me down for a bit anyway untill I get everything I need for the next setup to be installed. Should be cool to see what its got on full power.

Sweet, I studied that sub for like 3 days straight, when I was trying to figure out what sub was going to work best, I had to choose my sub based off of my box design. It wasn't already built, but due to what i'm doing which is very specific, i had to plot every high end (worth buying) sub to see which would give me the best results out of my enclosure. It was kinda fun to do, I went backwards. The price per performance was very tempting. I found one somewhere for lke $579 free shipping for the 12" but a SC DD won the battle

  4. I have heard the same thing about the effiecency of the driver. I am personally intrested in seeing how much of a gain will be had once im running more power because of the information on the table, it might not make that huge of a difference actually. However the woofer doesnt seem to be moving at even half excursion capabilities so far, so there might be a little to be had yet.

I would be happy to end up seeing 145db @ 34hz once electrical is up to par but only time will tell what happens. Might be expecting a little to much but Also the car doesnt have any sound dampening at all yet so that is soon & should help a bit for sure.

It seems to peak @ 34hz for lows in there right now on every setup I put in so far. ( rd alpha 15, sundown sa-10 & this triple x )

My overall goal in the end with the 18 is to get 150db or close between 28-34hz with 2 gp3000d-pros & a massive enclosure tuned low.

I played around with it on the computer, it seemed that the more power you gave it, the less gain it had, but the program is not a real life situation, you never know until you try. I've seen subs do unrealistic things when put in an enclosure that would have to be "the perfect box" for the sub, with the perfect tuning for the car.

  5. The sub when plotted on a graph compared to others in a similar price range ($500-700) prove to be very efficient with low power, the 1w 1m reading was like 7db higher than anything else in the price range, while having a much better frequency response than anything else. much more than any other I put it up against, but when you graph 1000w on all of them, the 1000w 1m reading was like 12db lower than everything else. and the frequency response fell off quick compared to the others at a very high volume. A very interesting test. Its like a car geared for quarter mile runs racing a car with an extremely high top speed, the quarter mile car will be quicker in the beginning but eventually the top speed will win it over. Definitely an amazing sub though. The low wattage performance was higher than anything else even in half the size of an enclosure. As getlocivic said, and amazing SQ sub.

  6. is that the one that weighs 90 lbs? you mentioned it does not hit the high notes, through trial and error i've found that the lower you tune the harder it is for a sub to hit those higher notes because the response falls off quickly. I did a box at 30hz and it didn't want anything to do with bass over 40hz, you can play around with it though, if you continue to increase the enclosure size it usually raises the response of the higher tones, all the while increasing your lows around the tune more and more. nice build looks like it sounds amazing.

  7. lol, i hear ya there. I was wearing a black Dc Power T-shirt and an Oreilly's racing hat. I was the one that Steve thanked for coming down after having to borrow a 10MPG gas hog to make it to the show for Charely's sake. Feels weird typing Charley all the time now, most of us that talk to him call him Charles lol

Right on I remember seeing you, think I stood by you a few times in between the competing cars.

Its been 3 years since I've been to an SPL event so I was all up in the action haha.

its something i've always enjoyed, but have been working almost 7 days a week for 10 years so I missed everything that went on all the time. Now i'm off on the weekends so I will have the time to get back into it.

  8. The wait sucks man, but you really need to downgrade to a smaller Boss amp. Not sure that 400 watt one is your best choice on that 9500 series. I think you'll end up burning up a coil from to much power. That amp is like the funky pup of amps man. Totally fuckin INSANE!!!!!!!!!

(Total Joke for those of you that cant comprehend sarcasm)

And i saw your ride, i meant you as in who were you there? for all i know, we were standing there bullshitting with each other for a while lol

Yea and maybe a 0.5 cubic foot sealed box, haha you saw that post.

coincidently I was the guy in the purple snake skin shoes.

black shirt and jeans, spiked hair,

I was the one doing the running man next to the cars in the lanes, and just kidding.

    Great visual though

I was there solo, my friend stopped by but left, I don't know anyone that is into this stuff like I am around here, shit even at the local shops you go in asking for a 5k rms amp or a thousand dollar sub they look at you like your nuts, I was told "people don't buy stuff like that around here," I did get a quote on a Hertz audio SPL from them, they wanted like 2 or 3 g's for it, way to much money to not be a DDZ series. it wasn't even a neo driver.

  9. The really cool part was this entire show went to Charley and his family for medical bills and any other needs. $3100 bucks was raised.

And Purple, which one were you there? I hate how we all know who people are on the forums by their screen name but we get to a show and half of us don't know who the hell each other is lol

For anyone else on here that goes to Midwest spl shows, The Charley class will be offered at all of Steves' ( Possibly other judges shows as well) shows for the rest of the year to continue to contribute to the fund for Charley and the family. If you guys actually know who Charley is, you can understand why everyone is doing everything they possibly can. He is defiantly the type to give you the shirt off his back and any bit of knowledge you need as long as it isn't for a selfish act..

I was in the purple fusion that said PURPLESYRUP on the back, haha, I don't know charley, but came to the show to donate and show support. As soon as my next build is done I will be attending more events. I'm about 2-3 weeks out. Waiting for DD to get parts in and send it to me. there was a 6 week wait when I purchased.

  10. http://midwestspl.hoop.la/calendar

heres the calender, usually every friday and saturday theres one somewhere. My bass tasting build will be done in a couple weeks, thats when i will get more serious. I still am only using 4gauge wire, stock cd player, and the class I was in ended up being music only, so unprepared, I competed using youtube videos from my phone, haha, 138.9 on a dubstep track legal, 149.6 Lil jon BME click not legal , sound quality tuned box @34hz.

I wish I knew someone close with a TL so I could experiment and see what my car likes the most.

  11. That's cool man im going to be moving near Springfield pretty soon. Are there quite a few show that happen there?

Seems to be about once a month or so. This one popped up 2 weeks ago. It was a special event to raise money for a dedicated competitor that got in a bad wreck leaving an event about 3 weeks ago. there was 58 entries at this event. Oh and thats for springfield, there are events pretty much every weekend from Midwest SPL, usually within a 2 hour drive time radius.

    Where are you moving to?

  12. I dont believe i could fit a t-line in my trunk. And i dont see all the hype about 4th and 6th orders either, i thought i needed one to be loud a while ago, but i realize my first box was just complete and utter shit.

For a 12" i build .5 cu ft larger than the sub company suggests, ported box, be sure your vent mach is around .04-.05, don't cheat the box, build it as strong as possible, with proper bracing that will not disrupt moving soundwaves. If you want to burp tones find the hz your car best responds to. If you want music and really loud, a 34- 36hz tune seems to do the job.

    just a random 3am suggestion.

  13. lol!!! That wood is hard as rock and will have no flex from what a subwoofer can produce. Those barrels can hold several 100 psi of pressure. As a joke we used a fresh from the distillery one for a compressor tank. Thing actually held 140 psi for months. The fiberglass is a good Idea for another reason though. The older the barrel gets once it has been drained the joints will begin to separate.;It is a tiny bit but it loosens the structural integrity of the barrel. I would suggest you seal the inside with fiberglass and if you do bother with braces, make them push the staves out towards the steel bands. As dense as those staves are they use to make those barrels I bet that its going to be one hell of a solid box.

yes it is before doing any work I made sure the barrel completely dried out with a heat lamp so that anything that was going to separate would separate at the maximum distance, which ended up being very little separation, there were only a few boards that showed maybe a 1 millimeter gap, nothing ever became loose or flimsy, so I picked a good 1.

  14. thats sick man! you should be good with what you have now, those barrels are beefy to start with right?

thanks, yes they are very strong. Its solid oak, reinforced with metal, I'm certain that it should work out very well. the goal was something as strong as concrete but not so heavy. Lol
