  1. the cyl misfire code is the one i dread the most because it can be caused by anything from intake seal , head gasket ,compression , injector , ignition , timing and probably a lot other things as well . i had a vehicle with a missfire and i started by checking the pcv , vacuum lines ,looking at wiring for anything obvious , switching wires from a known good cylinder , sprayed ether around the intake manifold seal while it was running to check the seal , finally a compression test revealed the cylinder with the misfire had low compression due to the head gasket leaking . if you plan to fix your own car the first thing you should get if you don't have it already is a repair manual and not chiltons ,get something better .

if you suspect the injector for that cyl you can see if you can trade it for another cyl

  2. what you have is an equalizer/amplifier my guess that the purple green white and grey wires are your speaker output and that the speakers negative might get wired to ground if there aren't any wires for speakers negative . due to it's age i would expect the power output to be less than your jvc hu .

your problem with your hu putting out too much bass and distorting your speakers , i would try turning down the bass first if you have the loudness on , turn it off , or maybe you are due to upgrade these speakers , the eq/amp might help just from having lower wattage , you could cut the lows on the eq as well .might just be fun to play around with a piece of vintage equipment

  3. hate to say but it's true can't trust very many people . i live in small town and stuff gets broken into all the time . i see vehicles with rear window or one of the little windows broken on a weekly basis . my solution is keep to myself mostly , take out full coverage on my vehicle and my gear for me it's $35 more a month to have full coverage over liability .

  4. i see , here's a thought , maybe you would only need build up certain strategics places at this point , say towards the middle more than the edges . sounds like your box should be pretty strong already . i guess if it were me and i had any doubt i would rather be over built than under built

  5. fiberglass is fairly flexible over one large flat area. thats why you always see it in tube or round shapes or with ridges to create more strength. it'll be a lot cheaper to just put another layer of wood on there or brace with a dowel or something. you're just going to throw money away on fiberglass.

i agree , double up on the wood . go take a look at the hardware store see what they got , steel pipe with flanges that you can screw or bolt is what comes to mind and if they don't have a length you like a plumbing shop can cut and rethead them

  6. better late than never i suppose ,hey i am bo , i am 28, live in mn and have a family of 4. i have always enjoyed listening to music jammin out and tinkering with audio equipment and building and modifying things , pretty cool to find this many people who are into car audio this deep . got a project or 2 coming up , i'll be sure to take some pics to put up

found out from steve's video's on youtube

  7. if you are on a budget and unsure of what you really want at this , maybe you should look for some quality name brand subs on ebay find a hand full of auctions that are low bids and watch them count down and try to get them cheap in the last minute , i say hand full because chances are most of them will get bid up , if you buy something cheap enough it's no big deal if you don't like it as long you haven't overpaid to get .

  8. alot of trial and error is your best bet to make this set up work as sound can be somewhat mysterious at times . if you prefer sound quality to volume i would stay with the sealed box . now that i have thought about it a while i think i would try adding some poly fill acoustic damping material inside your box and see if that improves it any

  9. most amps bass boost is around 50 hz you might try turn the bass boost on your down a little and see if it flattens out any , otherwise it sounds to like that's just going be how these subs are which would be ok if you only listened to rap i suppose .but if your like me you want your system to sound good playing anything. i had some alpine type r's and didn't care for them because of a wacky response curve kind of like the one you talk about . part of response problem could be do to the acoustic characteristics of your vehicle . you could try to figure it out but you might have better luck going shopping for some new subs .

  10. in that price range you could pick up some c3's from jl audio or alpine type x components but i myself am skeptical as to whether or not you would get your money's worth out either of those , but i would still be willing to give either of those a try . i have had some jl audio tr full range speakers and they were ok , right now i have alpine type s that i picked up used and cheap and i am happy with them for how cheap i picked them up they are better than many stock speakers .what ever you get, running on a good amplifier is the way to get the best sound . i have had my eye on jl audio's c5-653 3-way component set for a while now , i am kind of curious about cerwin vega for car after i picked up vegas for my house , like the mids and highs on my vegas in my house

  11. first off bose does some different things with there designs , i would expect to find 1ohm drivers or 2 ohm drivers or possibly 6 ohm 8 ohm 12 ohm ? so powering them with an aftermarket amp may be a learning experience to get it right , no you most likely will not find a gain setting on the bose amp . i would try a sound processor or line driver if you wish to keep the bose equipment ,but personally after owning 8 different models of bose speakers over the years for my house stereo , i wouldn't feel bad about loosing the bose gear to replace it with something better
