sorry for so few of pics , i did brace with a dowel and fiberglass on the inside corners , still haven't decided how i am going to finish my box , 3 jl 13w1 4ohm subs wired to 1.3 ohms . next on my list is an amp rack . after hearing my sub set up i am thinking about taking some volume away or going ported . without figuring the baffle or woofer displacement i am at about 6 cubic ft all 1 chamber which more per sub than jl recommends . i started this box build with out any real plan and just kind of shot from the hip . the baffle was about the only plan i had.

Im trying to get the best bang for my money so I hope some people can point me in the right direction. Everything will be going in a 2001 Honda Civic sedan. Basically, I need only one sub for 95% rap music. I'm looking for hard hitting, deep bass that sounds as good as I can get it haha. I don't want a sub that sounds perfect because I can't spend to much.
I'm looking at this http://www.hifisound...D2-10CVX12D2-RS and that's around my spending limit. I had 2 12 CVX's in my old car for about a year and didnt have a problem with them.
Any other suggestions? Thanks
alpine type r is good for rap . for best bang for the buck and best low performance i would go for a 15 if you only plan to run 1 sub .sundown has a 15 for $130 .
otherwise here is a deal for you if budget is a biggy

i might buy a couple of these when i get some more cash

damn , well your box looks like it shouldn't be too bad to fix . i would get the part that blew out to fit good and then screw it and glue it put screws in different places the screw holes that let go are no good . might be a good idea to do some fiberglass on the inside corners to re-enforce it .

what kind of sub and amp combo did that ?

the blade on your saw can make things easier or tougher to cut straight to , not sure if it is worth the money but i have been thinking about this blade for my circ saw
-
i have a table saw and i don't find it very helpful for box building because the table isn't big enough to easily be able to run a full sheet of wood through . for long straight cuts i have had best results using a drywall square and a couple of clamps to hold it in place as a guide for my circular saw . lumber yards have a rip saw and are usually willing to make a few rip cuts as a favor for being a customer , the lumber yard i go to has this saw on tracks and it does a nice job but i would find out what a lumber yard has before having them rip a sheet of board . sometimes a trim bit in a router can be helpful for cleaning up a proud edge .

looks good , and it looks like you know your way around building things pretty well, give your self some more credit and don't doubt your self so much

talking to someone about antivirus about a year ago i got that norton used to really slow things down , but not the case now .
-
i have norton and would buy it again , works alright . if your computer slows down drastically from antivirus software i would think its time to upgrade your ram

update , got 1 more 13w1 sub , and just got the first round of resin on my baffle here are some pics , internal bracing to come later
took to quarts of resin to get the fleece wet , thinking maybe i should have bought 2 gallons of resin .not sure how i am going to finish this box yet , i thought about trying to wrap it in vinyl , if nothing else spray on bed liner doesn't look too bad and it's good for hiding your goof ups

i have thought about morel a time or 2 , first seen morel in parts express many years ago , didn't know until recently that they were in the car audio game . for not being mainstream they can't be bad speakers for the company to stay in business as long as they have .
on another note parts express still has the $9 dollar focal 6.5 inch midbass

i can't tell you about the c3's but i have had some jl audio tr's and thought they were kind of harsh , but i was also running them on deck power (alpine) they are currently out of stock but here is a deal if you want to give them a try . i didn;t care to wait otherwise i would have jumped on these for $130 a pair . still might in the near future .

i don't dread my computer but i expected way more , i have a toshiba laptop 4 gig ram and 320 gig hard drive running a 64 bit version of windows 7 , amd vision 1.33 ghz , it was $260 at best buy 8 months ago .
i only bought this because my old dell inspiron 8600 got a worm and it wasn't cost effective for me to refurb it get a new hard drive and find a copy of windows xp and upgrade the ram , and it was running a 32 bit version of xp so i couldn't have gotten the most recent updates due to that . surprisingly my new toshiba runs about the same as my old dell ran when it was running good .
I really wish more people lived near me that have issues like that, or that I knew about them. I'd fix it for free. On a side note, my work throws out computers faster than that by the hundreds. I threw away 22 pounds of ram last week.
Some of the desktops at work are still old Dell GX260's with 512 megs of ram. Luckily we're told to replace them with at least a core2 or better.
i take it you know a thing or 2 about computers , how does a guy get a fresh copy of windows without spending $100 or close to ? i'm always thinking about picking up has been computers and replacing parts to get a cheap computer that runs ok .
last time i had to use a computer at the public library , they replaced most of the dells with these turds of computers
these little acers are slow enough to piss me off and i am a somewhat patient person

yes it sounds like your block has been bored all ready , i would ask a good machine shop or 2 or 3 just how far you can go with the block in question just to make sure things don't get too thin .

i really can't answer you why an amp might fail because i don't know enough about how an amp works to break it down , shorted mosfets is a common failure of amps , so is the power supply . assuming your install was good and all settings were good you may have just gotten a dud . but i would really suggest that you double check every thing before too long when you get your replacement amp . i would also recommend a voltage meter , when your voltage dips playing full tilt your amp has to work alot harder and low voltage can make an amp very unhappy
-
i would take the back off and have a look . i would expect to find a burnt mosfet or a toasted transformer

update , i got my xls-215's today , turns out that ups dropped them monday at a trucking firm located 90 miles away and they sat there or what ever until today around noon , wound up taking each speaker off the trailer by hand .got them with out the any damage , the cardboard boxes were even in nice shape .
and i am liking the xls-215's quite a bit so far .
-
connections ? start out with the simpler things , if connections are good , could possibly be the solenoid or many other things .
-
i never leave my doors unlocked when i am not home , but several times ups has showed up without me seeing them and the driver knocked , opened my door and set the package inside and then left .
-
never had the infinity speakers but all the other speakers i have had never really shined until i amped them with at least 40 watt rms per channel . i have currently alpine type s 6.5 components and and coaxial speakers and if you can get a deal they are an ok value .
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_27143_JL-Audio-C3-650CW.html
here's a bit of a deal , but they are out of stock other wise i would have bought these . i also would be willing to give rf a try , i have read elsewhere that the infinities scream on deck power .
if it were me i would really plan on running an amp for mids and highs .
-
You will be dawm lucky to get them in one peace. Better hope there packaging is good. Ups has killed a few of my subs. But they do pay for it tho. But its a bitch and takes months. But hopefully you wont hace any issue. And also they will unload them to your door step
just to clarify i am getting a pair of these , tracking info for this say 1 piece 300 lbs , so i imagine they are on a pallet or something

Glassing in high heat?
in Fabrication, Fiberglass, Etc
Posted
i just did a glass project in 98 degree heat and despite mixing less hardener , i still couldn't work fast enough to work a quart of resin . less hardener and small batches of resin is my $.02 and go go go go go go go once you mix your resin . have it all ready to go before you mix .
