  1. My threaded inserts and bolts finally arrived after being delayed by Mother Nature (or Al Gore LOL!!!)... I'm still waiting on my butyl sealant rope to get here but I went ahead and got these installed... I love the flexibility of the threaded inserts (great recommendation @meade916) so I can take them out whenever I need to...

  2. first actual progress video. Stay tuned for paint, LED's, logo's etc!

First of all much respect for you, to you and what you've done for the industry...

I noticed in the video that you didn't drill the holes for the sub all the way through for the threaded inserts, but for the plexiglass insert you did... Is there a specific reasoning behind that?? Also, do you use a particular brand or just any soft wood threaded insert??

    Thanks!!

  3. I own a small shop in a small town and we move Sundown equipment pretty well. But I have no issues matching online MAP prices that Sundown post. Id rather make $20 with a customer and keep him coming back for years rather than make $100 upset him and never see him/her again. There are a few companies out there whose stuff floats around on Evilbay or Amazon that I cannot compete with price wise. Some of that equipment sells for cheaper that I can buy it for myself as a dealer which makes 0 sense to me. But it is what it is. So our biggest box name we carry and push is Sundown. Price wise, quality wise and customer service wise they are our best product. And we carry several "nut hugger" brands.

I'm glad there's still some Integrity out there. Luckily, I'm not against small shops and if I found one that I could trust I'd be more than happy to "become a sponsor" LOL. I actually just found a small shop here in Cincinnati and he said he's thinking about carrying Sundown. I told him I'd help him put in his first order LOL. If I didn't think it was a GREAT product, I wouldn't have gone through ANY of this.

  4. I work at an audio shop, and after multiple inquires to sundown, there is hardly any mark up on their products. I can understand the frustration of being told one thing and then another a short time later. But at the end of the day the shop has to make money. Selling those subs to you for 220 a piece before tax probably would have made the shop 40 bucks a woofer. Where as say selling a Rockford t1 for 400 just made the shop 200 bucks. It's all in how companies mark up their product that determines how much a shop can charge.

Any shop that works hard to actually MOVE our product and keeps a fair amount in stock to take advantage of discounted / free shipping will make PLENTY of margin. Not to mention the new 2014 tiered pricing which offers incentives to dealers who are able to sell more volume. Obviously you can't sit one unit on the shelf, have people walk in, point at it and get 100% mark-up.

It just too bad that most of the shops that are willing to do the work, are online...

  5. I completely agree whoever you talked to shouldn't have lied. And I find it rediculous that the owner couldn't come over and talk to you in person. I was just trying to give some insight as to why online brands cost more at brick and mortar stores.

I totally understand the overhead of running a business. I just didn't appreciate being lied to and all in the presence of my lady, she's like me when it comes to money. Stood in cust srvice at Target for $1 one time LOL

they have to make money sure, but why lie to him to do it?

Was it the shop owner or the employee that said they would price match? Maybe the employee lied to get you there and then asked the owner after the fact. Kinda what it sounds like.

If it was me running the shop, I would've ate the $22 and then dealt with the employee accordingly. I'd rather go out of business being honest than being dishonest with people. As Much as I like karma, I hate when that b!tch comes to visit.

He was selling them for $250 before I got online and then contacted Sundown. @$220 he'd lose $20/sub but potentially gain a loyal customer. Cuz it's not like I only have one car and I want them all to sound good LOL

  8. I have been going to the same brick and mortar store since before there was an internet to buy stuff. Because of that I can pull one of the owners aside while other customers are in the store and ask for a legit price. I still like to support the local small businesses. So too keep the good relationship with a shop is a good idea. Remember Amazon can't always ship stuff to you 2hrs before a comp.

Clearly, if they had been honest they would've got a repeat customer and I would've done the 80 miles with no problem. But it's shops like my example that mess it up for the good spots that do still exist, like the one you mention.

OAN, unlike most I'm not doing this for comp, I just want good stuff for my install.

  9. i bet he never would have went if they didnt say they price matched lol

You're absolutely right, I would've ordered them the say time I bought my amp. They were on sale for $155/sub. But I wanted to support this brick-n-mortar. Not to mention that my fiance was with me and how would she have looked at me if I allowed someone to be dishonest with me and I still supported their business?!?

  10. I support brick and mortar store by not haggling them if the price is within a reasonable amount compared to online. I also understand that brick and mortar stores have to pay overhead and local taxes.

If from the beginning the shop would've said they could get close to internet pricing, then that would be one thing. But to tell me they'd match internet pricing, that's where they became a dishonest business.

  11. The shop I go to is as good if not better than the internet. He gives out a 2 year warranty and he delivers the next day. He got an internet store on amazon. All his prices are competitive with the online dealers. He ships out to other cities as well but he is located in Chicago so he just has a driver bring the stuff to my house.

My boy is from Chicago and he's always coming back from the crib with good deals.
  12. you didnt try. you didnt buy the subs

I tried to talk to the 'owner" but the "owner" wouldn't come to talk to me and his businesses are adjoining...WTF is that about?!? I try to deal with these small shops because I know its hard to stay in business with the internet. But when the character (and integrity) of the business ain't right, I wouldn't even buy a soda out their vending machine!!!

  13. Wait you expected to pay 199 without tax. At a brick and mortar store. That's just like saying that you rather have driven on a dirt road for 80 miles instead of a paved one.

I expected to pay $199 + tax since the shop's employee told me that he'd match internet pricing. I was down to support them because after my initial trip there, they "seemed" like a reputable shop for the area. After learning about MAP pricing, contacting them on two (2) separate occasions and in the end realizing that I'd received bad info on both.

  14. I see your point and agree it's the principle in the matter, but that'd be tough to walk away having drove 160 miles round trip twice... If the sa12s continue their popularity, I'd be willing to bet they'll cost $220 even online in the next year or so. They were only $169, 6 months-year ago. Hell they were 189 like 2 months ago.

You could always wait til Black Friday. $133 shipped on Amazon last year. Hahaha!

The thing about business that businesses sometimes fail to realize is that if you have good customer service and a product that people want, they'll come to you. I know people that drove to Atlanta from Nashville (200+ miles) just to go to IKEA.

I haven't even started to put the sound deadener (Second Skin) in my car so I'm far from ready for the subs but I figured I'd go ahead and get them . But if all else fails, I'll get the B-Stock subs or wait for Black Friday sales.

  15. WOW so you didn't buy them just because you had to pay $11 more plus tax so about $26... that 80 miles would of been worth the extra money just knowing there in my hand and i wouldn't have to pay shipping if i needed them warranted.. Did you even ask how the warranty them if its direct replacement or repair?

I didn't buy them because my business motto is "treat others how I would want my mom (or someone you care dearly for) treated"!!! I ordered my amp from Wooferetc while they were having their Black Friday sale. I paid $480 (with no tax and free shipping) where this same shop wanted $650 (MSRP). That being said I could've got the subs for $199 (with no tax and free shipping) as well. But obviously shame on me for trying to help keep a small "brick-n-mortar" business going!!!!

  16. So, I'm in the market for two SA-12D4. I found the closest dealer to Cincinnati which is over 80 miles away. Dealer name is Drive 1 Customs in Springfield, OH. I made a trip up back in November to get a feel for what kind of shop it was. The salesperson told me the subs cost $249/sub. After leaving, I did research online and found the subs for $199/sub.

Confused by the difference I contacted Bryan @ Sundown Audio to figure out the reason for the difference. He informed me of their MAP pricing policy and for my particular sub of choice $199 is the lowest price Sundown allows the dealer to sell the product. He told me that I could contact the dealer and they might match the lowest MAP price, but they don't have to.

I contacted Drive 1 by phone after receiving the info direct from Sundown. The salesperson I spoke to in November said he would sell them to me for $199/sub. So due to time lapsing, I called on 01/23/14 to make sure the deal didn't expire. This time the salesperson told me that he'd "match online pricing".

Today, I drive over 80 miles to Drive 1 to support a "brick-and-mortar". I get there and after telling the salesperson that I was promised price match he calls the owner. The owner, who was next door at his other business (Yes, I said NEXT DOOR!!!) says he would sell them to me at $220/sub. So I plead with the salesperson that I ONLY drove all the way there because of what was promised.

So he calls the owner back, who refused to come talk face to face, and he says he'll do them for $210. I tell the salesperson that's not what was promised and he proceeds to tell me that I'd have a hard time getting my warranty from an authorized Internet dealer and all they do is drop-ship. To him this was why the owner would NOT take them down to $199.

So, I still have no subs and now I understand why people have a hard time trusting shops. Despite my knowledge of what the sub is actually worth (MSRP)...this was bad business!!!!! If they had initially said they wouldn't honor the MAP pricing I wouldn't have gone through any of this and NO one would know the true character of this owner and his business.
