  1. The DD-1 only needs to recognize 40Hz and 1kHz test tones so anything that can source that is fine.

It helps to know the output level of the track as well (0dB, -15dB, etc).

I ripped my DD-1 disc to iTunes and then loaded it onto my iPhone which I use to hold most of my music.

USB stick would work fine as well.

Based on what I learned on mine, my recommendation if you're going to go that route is also measure the rms voltage from your HU with a DMM.

I have a nice Kenwood eXcelon HU and it has varying max voltages on the RCA pre-outs depending on what source I use.

Ex: Using CD's, I get the full rated 5Vrms from the RCA's.

Using my phone through Bluetooth, I only get 1.5Vrms from the RCA's.

AUX input from my phone's headphone jack only gives 500mVrms.

Make's it very difficult to set the gains on the amp when you have a varying signal from the HU.

You wouldn't want to set the gains based on a reduced signal level and then use a different source which outputs a much larger signal.

You make a great point. I completely forgot about ripping to itunes.

That said, how did you resolve your varying signal level issue? I'm in the same boat, although I haven't measured it. My bluetooth audio is noticeably weaker than ipod audio. I'm assuming the best course of action would be to set gains based on the strongest signal, and accept a slightly weaker output when using bluetooth or aux. I was considering switching to a new Kenwood unit...preferably one that is compatible with the lightning connector for the newer ipods and iphones. Thanks for the reply!

  2. I recently purchased a DC Audio 175.4 amplifier from Names_jeff. He advertised it as 10/10 mechanical and 10/10 cosmetic. Since mechanical is hard to prove without a video, I asked him to make one and use my name in the video. He quickly obliged. The sale went very smoothly over the phone, using Paypal. Shipment was prompt (via UPS)...he sent it out the next day, insured. Amp arrived today, flawless and intact, and is 10/10 all the way around as advertised.

I'd easily buy from him again. Thanks, Jeff!

  3. Click on the users name and goto their profile.

On the left side menu bar it says "overview, profile feed, likes, friends, topics, posts, vehicles".

Clicking on Topics will show that users recent topics they have started.

Clicking on Posts will show that users recent posts in threads they have replied in.

Its all still blank for me

I just "liked" your post, then went to your content. Still blank. Guess my epic forum count growth idea just fell through. I can't be bothered to read ALL THIS STUFF!

  4. It does show up if you click on "view new content" at the top then choose "items I participated in"

same problem here, and I cant figure out how to do what your talking about

I think it means that you can see the content, as long as you actually posted or participated or liked every single post on the forum. If you don't participate in the thread, it's blank. If indeed that's the way to fix my inability to post in certain forums or view users content, I have ALOT of reading and posting to do. Post count, here I come!

  5. When looking at members profiles (trying to find content they posted) it says no content...so same here I guess.

I also can't post in the personal fitness section. Is that a post count thing? I'm a pretty new forum member, but figured I'd be able to post words of encouragement in there. I sent it via PM instead.

  6. Here you go, Steve. You wanted to see it dance...it's dancin'! Unfortunately, that also means I need MOAR POWA, but I'll take care of that this summer. Mechman 320 S series alternator and XS Power D3400 (single battery). Thanks to your VM-1, I can now see (in real time) that my voltage holds steady at 15V while driving, at least until I turn the volume up. At idle, in park, it shows around 14.7, with voltage drops to the high 11's when pushing my system.

This video was taken while in park. You can kind of see where the car was sitting at idle when the bass drops (voltage drop to 12.something) then rises a bit when I advanced the throttle. Voltage is much better when driving.

  7. 8. I better introduce myself here. I'm in Iowa, recently retired from the military, and have been into ground poundin' since 1993. Never had a HUGE system, but it's steadily gotten bigger as my salary increased over the years. Found the site a long time ago via Youtube, but lurked without creating an account for years. Met Steve once while stationed at Beale, and he was gracious enough to give me a demo.

Currently driving a '99 Grand Am, Alpine iDA-X305S head unit, JL setup, Mechman alt and XS D3400 under the hood. Planning this summer to do a wall (or most likely have it done) on DC Audio gear. Hoping to squeeze 4 lvl 6 18's in there, but I might just be crazy. Not sure if I want to stick with JL for my doors, or switch to RF. Figured that by hanging around this forum and actually participating in some conversation, I might be able to learn some things from those who have made the mistakes that I'm (probably) going to make (again). You folks are truly an inspiration!
