  1. Thanks sobased, just checked out your vids. I am constrained to 38w x18h and I want to keep the depth at 16 or so to allow for amp rack, so I may have to drop from 3 subs to 4, but from what I am seeing of the e-8 it will probably meet my needs pretty well. If you tune to 30, let me know how it works out, also what are you tuned at right now?
  2. Lol you came back to be wtfnothelpful some more.. welcome back friend. Again, please re-read my original posts as well as my efforts to clarify. I DID NOT ask if anything would be louder than anything. I asked if they GOT LOUD.. I stated that my end goal was to be louder than my previous system but did not ask whether the sa-8, e-8, or any other sub would specifically do that. Other people are actually being constructive, friendly, and helpful... so if you can't... well... I am not going to tell you to F off because that is probably against the rules, but you get the picture I am sure.. I am surprised you even bother to come around here with your obvious disdain for new people, and your obvious love for hard assing people that are just trying to get some info from a very reputable, knowledgeable, and helpful (you are obviously the exception) community. Thanks again friend.. Btw... member bashing is also against the forum rules that you are trying so ardently to uphold... so if you don't have anything of value to add... please leave me alone and go troll in someone else's thread. To everyone else, I apologize.. that will be the last time I reply to his attempts to troll me and de-rail an otherwise helpful thread. It is apparently hard to be the new guy around here lol. I just sold my Tacoma yesterday and bought my wife a 2013 Sonata lol (how that came about I don't know rofl) so I will be driving the 06 Scion full time now. As soon as I get the check cleared from the truck sale I will be ready to buy. If anyone lives in eastern NC or Va Beach/Hampton Roads please pm me if you know of any car shows/car audio comps coming up later this spring. I live in E-City and nothing ever happens down here lol. Nick
  3. How would you rate yours at 520w on sq and spl? Ive got a Sa-8v2 with a hifonics hfi1000d (pushin 650w rms) and it sounds good but, it is my first set up and ive never had anything else to compare it to (and its in a 0.64ft3 box slot ported @35hz). If i was you i would buy two E-8v3's for about 80/ piece, run atleast 1000w combined, and in a ported box (good value for all of that). Heck i paid 145 for one v2 and 110 for the amp and I think it goes deep. Plus the fact that it blows my friends minds when i tell them i only have an 8. The only thing i dont know is that the resonant frequency of the e8v3 is 51.9hz and xmax is only 12mm which reminds me of a sealed box rock sub. The resonant frequency of the v2 is 34.6hz and xmax is at 16.5. Also if you havent already bought an amp Hifonics makes a great series of high powered amps called the "Brutus" line at 1200+ Thanks, the fs being so high was the main reason that I questioned how they sounded at lower frequencies. When I model things up in winisd, it usually seems that the higher the fs, the worse the lower response ends up. But I am still trying to figure alot of this stuff out and am well aware that I don't understand the relationship of all the t/s parameters and how they affect performance. If I go with the e-8v3's I may buy the hifonics amp, but if for some reason I end up with the sa series I would probably get teh aq amp.
  4. Awesome, thanks! I will look for that youtube. Probably will look for the v3s
  5. Thank you, at least you were somewhat constructive.. I think everyone else misunderstood.... I wasn't asking "how many dbs will this do".. I was looking for advice on my battery, and trying to get peoples opinions on the e-8 subs and whether they might be a decent match for that amp.
  6. Wow, I don't see where I broke any of those rules, so thanks for being a tool to a guy new to the boards. I just imagined that in the Sundown forum that someone would own a set and maybe post their experience. I know damn good and well there is no magic calculator that gives a termlab score before you do the install. This was not a comparison thread as I specifically stated I wanted to keep it about the e-8s.. No wonder I haven't tried to get back into the car audio community... Yes I stated my goal was to exceed my old system, but I didn't ask if my proposed setup would break 138, 140, 142.. etc... Without having a box design picked out you can't even start to look at the exact numbers... I was basically trying to see if anyone had the subs and what they were getting out of them. ie.. if someone is hitting 150db with them then they can get loud... setups will be different and vary drastically... but if I built an identical box, with an identical electrical system in an identical vehicle... I could reasonably expect at least ~similar~ results... no? I might not hit 150 with the same setup but assuming all specs are identical, we can agree I would almost certainly be louder than 130, no? I also asked how they sound at lower freqs, and maybe I worded that wrong too lol.. But.... I can tell you first hand that Boss Shallow mount 10s sound like poo once you get below about 45HZ in a sealed box that meets the recommended size by the manufacturer, so I would think that someone could say "the e-8s" are capable of playing low freqs like a champ" or "they are nice subs but not really the best on the bottom end" or whatever the case may be. And I know that can be at least someone calculated using winisd or several other programs. I compared the sa-10s to my old Boss 10s and can easily say the sundown subs will perform better at lower frequencies when following manufacturers recommendations for the enclosure... I doubt anyone would argue otherwise right? If somehow I did violate a rule that I didn't see in your ohsokindandhelpful post.. then I apologize and will take my questions elsewhere.
  7. I am considering buying 4 of the E-8 subs and running them off of an aq2200, I am also considering the sa-8 but don't know yet. Not trying to make a vs thread so I will mostly keep this about the e-8. Do they get loud? By loud I am not talking about 160, or even 150. I will be building a ported box in a 2006 Scion XB. I hit 138 with 2 type-r subs in a prefab a few years ago so the vehicle is relatively easy to get loud with imo. That was without dynamat, on stock electrical with an alpine 500w mono block at an IASCA event in 2007 (dunno what meter was used). I am looking to exceed that with this setup. I would imagine with the aq2200 (assuming the e-8s can handle that) and sundown subs in a properly built box I could do that. But... I don't know so that is why I am asking you guys. I have deadened the vehicle but still have stock electrical. I may do the big-3 but the stock alternator will be staying. Also, while I am here... I have an optima blue top battery sitting around. Can I run my car off of that, and would I benefit in doing so? If not, would I benefit from putting it in the back? Didn't cost me anything and is in good shape so just wondering if I would gain anything by using it. With the e-8 subs, how low could I expect them to play and still sound good? Thanks for helping a noob!
  8. lol I have looked at so many numbers in the last 2 days I am about blind! But yeah, I am considering the 2 box idea, the hard part is figuring out how small of a box I can get away with and how/where to port it (or leave it sealed?) If I made 2 boxes this size, I could fit them both in there, but don't know how to calculate that airspace lol. http://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view;_ylt=A0PDoQ6d5iZRrTgAawSJzbkF;_ylu=X3oDMTBlMTQ4cGxyBHNlYwNzcgRzbGsDaW1n?back=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%2Fimages%3Fp%3Dtoyota%2Btacoma%2Bsub%2Bbox%2Bdimensions%26n%3D30%26ei%3Dutf-8%26y%3DSearch%26fr%3Dcrmas%26tab%3Dorganic%26ri%3D161&w=600&h=570&imgurl=i157.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ft80%2Fmjonags32%2Fsub_box42ft3.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.toyotanation.com%2Fforum%2F61-2nd-generation-2005%2F269481-custom-double-cab-sub-enclosure.html&size=21.2+KB&name=custom+double+cab+%3Cb%3Esub+%3C%2Fb%3Eenclosure+-+%3Cb%3EToyota+%3C%2Fb%3ENation+Forum+%3A+%3Cb%3EToyota+%3C%2Fb%3ECar+and+...&p=toyota+tacoma+sub+box+dimensions&oid=13de1320475d433f97de707bb828cc2a&fr2=&fr=crmas&tt=custom%2Bdouble%2Bcab%2B%253Cb%253Esub%2B%253C%252Fb%253Eenclosure%2B-%2B%253Cb%253EToyota%2B%253C%252Fb%253ENation%2BForum%2B%253A%2B%253Cb%253EToyota%2B%253C%252Fb%253ECar%2Band%2B...&b=151∋=220&no=161&ts=&tab=organic&sigr=13404pd04&sigb=142djugo3&sigi=11qf4ba7j&.crumb=ZAN6YM7KYEC
  9. ok, so I assume I need a port calculator or something to figure out the length of them? Also, is anyone more experience than me able to tell me if that box shape/size with the notch and all that going to be enough airspace? The last question I have is where the ports would go? With the thickness of the top and the notch in the way I can't port towards the top, so I am guessing I would have to come out the front (near the bottom) to allow for the depth of the ports, or possible out the side, but that would be porting right into the side which seems less than ideal.
  10. It is going behind the seat of a 2007 tacoma double cab. It has to be a wedge shaped box. In the link below I can eliminate most of the notch by removing the child seat latches. The width is 29", if possible it would be nice to stop the box at the 9 3/8" mark to take the notch out of play since it feels like the top portion is wasted airspace. However, if it is needed I can use it. I would imagine that I can hold the depth of the notch to about 3/4" instead of the 1 1/2" listed. Thanks in advance for anyone that is willing to take a look at this. http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?p=toyota+tacoma+sub+box+dimensions&ri=2&tab=organic&ri=2 I have also seen where people buiild 2 seperate boxes that are 17 5/8" wide (depth/height as described above with notch) but I would rather go with 1 29" box so i could use the other area for an amp rack.
  11. Yeah, i am sort of hoping someone describes the potential. I will probably end up building a ported box and trying them out, but I am very much on the cheap side of things and another $600 for subs and box supplies is only going to be worth it to me if there is a good chance I will be able to at least get into the upper 130s or lower 140s, I have an 06 scion xb that I will put them in if for some reason it doesn't work out in the truck though lol. The Scion is easy to get loud for cheap. Hit 138 for about $550 last time I messed with it. Of course a lot of people here have spare parts that get louder than that lol. But for me in the truck 140 is the goal, I am just not sure how to get there. I think the sd-2 subs should be capable of that, and I think the Kicker 1000.1 would be enough power, but the question is whether I can build the right box.
  12. So that would be 1cf per sub right? I noticed that the sundown website recommends .5 sealed and 1 ported. But I imagine the .5cf is the smallest recommended? Would you suggest individual chambers, or just a single 2cf enclosure? Thanks for your advice on that, I am gonna measure that and see what I get into. Now... if anyone in North Carolina has experience with fiberglass, I would love to chat lol. I don't want to flat out pay for a box, but I would pay for some help.
  13. My wife works at Bestbuy so the amp situation I could fix. I can get the Kicker 1000.1 for about 1/2 price, I just went with the 500.1 because I was buying cheap subs. I have looked at trying to find/build a better box but that is a super odd shape/limited space and I just don't know what else to do back there that will be much better. If anyone has built a box for a tacoma doublecab please let me know. I have 2 kids that occasionally ride with me so I have to leave the back seats alone. Fortunately the box is sealed pretty well and actually doesn't leak (at least with what I am running right now). I have felt all around it with the system on and can't find any air leaks at all. Also, would it make sense for me to port the box? I have looked at some port calculators and it seems like I could do a lot better with lower freqs if I did.
  14. First post here so please don't slam me if I am out of line or downright noobish lol. I have been in love with car audio since I was I got my first car back in 1994. I currently have a 2007 tacoma with this box in it.. http://www.hifisoundconnection.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/vpid/7700433/vpcsid/0/SFV/30046 I know it isn't custom and probably isn't that good, but it is what I currently have. I also have a Kicker 500.1 running 2 no name shallow mount 10s and a Kicker 300.2 running Alpine components in the front doors and 6.5s in the rear doors. It sounds GREAT to my untrained ear in terms of sound quality but it isn't loud. It lacks when things get below 45HZ or so, but handles most music pretty nice. I am considering swapping out my two crap 10s (boss shallowmounts) with a pair of SD-2 10s. It seems like they would fit, I was just wondering whether it is worth the $300 for them, and whether it would be very loud when combined with my kicker 500.1 in the above mentioned box. I realize that no one can give me termlab results without metering it lol, and that "loud" is a relative term. For me, my previous loudest system was 2 alpine type-r 12s with a ported box running on the alpine 500W monoblock amp. I hit 138 with that and felt it was pretty loud lol. I know I can't expect big numbers for little dollars, so I am just trying to find something in the 135-140db range without spending too much. Do you see any possibility of achieving this with those subs, that box and that amp, or am I just dreaming? Again, I am just looking for thoughts from people who know more than I do (which is most of you I imagine). Thanks! Nick
