  1. Yeah sadly not much you can look for in the amp. Was the amp soaked? generally when the chips or mosfets burn out you will see a white dot in the center (could be faint, I've burnt a few chips out in school) signifying a burn out. After a day or two of drying if you feel up to it you can take a multimeter to it but there are gonna be a lot of components to check. I would start from the speaker terminals, if power is not there move into the amp to components attached to those and so forth, thats just basic debugging, eventually you will find the fault. That really sucks, good luck hopefully it just works.

  2. Box turned out good. Get that bish sealed off firing forward.

Thank you thank you, I'm happy with it and so is he. Hits all the notes pretty good and is really accurate imo.

I just need to trade cars with him for a few days, he ca ndrive my jeep and I get his civic :ehh: hehe. I know how I would approach the sealing but in the end its his car not mine <_< so I hope he listens to me. Ima make a mock up with exhibit board possibly today if I have time then hopefully jump on that project come Monday.

I also acquired two 55aH telecom backup batteries for free that I want to put into my jeep. (not the best for the ob but better then nothing i guess) that that's what Ill do while I wait for his ass to have free time.

  3. My buddy came by and we test fit then finished the box not too long ago, turned out pretty good. These cars have pretty big trunks and openings, I was surprised.

Here is the car '08 Civic Si

No videos due to not having a camera that can take worthy video, but for how they are sitting and the fact that they are chap subs they get down. Once they are forward and sealed off and on a better amp they will sound really good (the trunk rattle annoys me but that's why I drive a jeep)

  4. I was gonna do my next build with these. Wanted to do 10 12's in a clam in my hatchback. But I decided on 4 15's haha

That would be a pretty sick build, and for only ~$500 in subs shipped haha. 4 15's is also a good direction, i like the look of the bigger subs, just looks clean.

Buddy should be stoppin by in the next couple hours so hopefully the enclosure build will be finished today and loaded. Then I just need to figure out the sealing from the trunk, kinda pita when I dun have the car here for a day haha. Any suggestions on that portion? I have never sealed off the trunk before, I figure some mdf and foam should be the easiest way but any ideas are welcome. (would do fiberglass but no experience and not my money haha)

  5. This is a build I am doing for my buddy who has sadly been without a system practically since he got his Civic Si in like 2008. It is a budget build so keep that in mind. The end goal is to face the subs forward and seal off the trunk but for now I am just building the enclosure then will design that part.

    Equipment:

Power Acoustik SL4-1000 because I have a spare one I was gonna use for my components.

    Hifonics HFX12D4 x2

Ok so now onto the build. It is a standard L-port with ~1.7cuft per sub tuned to ~32hz (can be seen in the calc screenshot below). Bracing displacement is off but doesn't change much.

    And piecing it together

    IMG_2557.jpg

jasper jig and a punch to make sure the stupid drill bit didn't move like it always does <_<

    IMG_2558.jpg

Rounded the inner side of the circles, dunno if it helps but looks and feels nicer

45s are a pita without a table saw. half chop saw half hand saw and boom 45 :yahoo:

That is it for now, want to make sure I can fit it into the trunk opening before I finish it. I will get pics of the car and the finished enclosure in the next day or so.

  6. The way torres calculates the port length is a little different, he measures the port length from the midpoint of the port where most calculators probably use the inner wall of the port (essentially making the port longer). From what I have seen and from listening to Torres help me understand his calcs I would trust his calculator over a random online one (though some are really good also if you look hard enough) but honestly if your tuning is only off a couple Hz then I doubt it will make a huge difference for daily. If you really have questions I bet Torres would gladly explain stuff like he did for me.

Box looks sexy though, I really like the sub model too makes it look more legit :drinks:

  7. Ah ok I remember reading that stuff when I downloaded the program, just must have forgotten, thanks.

Here is the updated program screenshot. I'm only using 0.5" dowels as bracing hopefully that should keep the box stiff in those weaker points of the box and I assumed the bracing displacement was in ft^3 so the displacement was quite small but I added it anyways. I also there was no info on the woofer displacement even in the manual so I just assumed 0.1 ft^3 (if this is bad or way off let me know). I also fixed the port length since I noticed it was off from my model. Thank for being helpful and not just reaming me for not quite knowing hoe to use the program fully haha.

  8. You have three common port walls, you didn't take out the displacement of the subs or bracing.

How are you going to get a height of 13.75?

I haven't really used that calculator much so ill have to tweak it a bit, i might have taken a pic of the wrong dimensions in the calc, the model is build right I will go and fix the program though, thanks for pointing that out for me.

the bracing was an after thought I will add that in right away. Just so I can learn a little more what constitutes as a common port wall? I could probably guess but would rather get the right info.

Again thanks for the criticism tis how I learn.

  9. I am building a box for my buddies civic si and he has two(2) Hifonics HFX12D2 subwoofers (economy set up). the box is going to be sealed from the trunk firing into the cabin. What do you guys think of these calculations for the box?It is going to be a standard L port with both subs in a common chamber. Here is a screenshot of the program:

    doug_box_port.jpg

The 12 sqin. per 1 cuft. seems low but if it will still be okay then that's all that matters. Do these seem like good calcs?

  10. I had this same problem a while back with my pioneer deck, it could either be a bad ground on the amplifier or a bad ground on the deck itself, mine ended up being deck side so if you have the ability check that also, decks can be cheaper then amps if its faulty.

Sounded like an engine rumble to me

Edit, guess mine could have been a fault on the rca terminals on the deck, but def make sure all grounds are solid

  11. I was able to get the quick sketch up we got....it was just a rough idea but here it is.

    IMG_0400.jpg

With hard edges like that it is pretty easy, just section the drawing into as many square sections as possible, add them together then find the area of any triangular sections (45s) do them as squares then half the answer. add all the volumes together and boom you have a solid estimate. If there is any curving if it i slight it can be negligible due to internal structuring (support)or speaker displacement

^^ damn was just too late lol

  12. 20 minutes from my hometown. I love the beach there. I always try to go ride a jet ski or parasail.... Im a sissy with heights tho and cant swim lmao

Nice, I would love to have stuff like this near me just to have the option the weather is soo nice down here. I feel you on the heights too, they make me uncomfortable but you dun think about it till your too high >.< haha

    [quote name=^_^ Gem132' timestamp='1306830579' post='1548731]

WOW thats looks like it would be heaps fun, i would def prefer that than jumping out of a plan lol

Ive never been skydiving but I think this would be more fun too, mainly cuz cruising the coastline for 10 min was really cool and fairly relaxing unlike skydiving where it doesnt last as long

  13. It was my first time doin it, soo much fun. Kinda terrifying being like 15+ stories above the water in just a harness and chute but crazy fun. Def glad I gave it a shot, Since I was the first person that day they tried to scare me by making me almost drop into the water just after takeoff, and I'll tell you it worked haha was like shit shit whats going on haha. I def recommend it if you ever get the chance

  14. Been a long time since my last post, but my system hasn't changed due to not having a job and been real busy finishing up school the past year. Anyways ....

As a graduation present (from Chico State Engineering) the parentals decided to take me down to Nuevo Vallarte, Mexico for a week. Im not complaining, fun things to do and plenty of beautiful women (now I just need to start interacting with them haha, only take a few dringks here they are made nice and strong). Anyways Here is a video I took on my first day while parasailing, you wont be able to enjoy it as much as I did but enjoy anyways

  15. I have never used the mtx before but i used to have three 8" CVR's in a horn in my jeep and they slapped real hard people didnt believe they were 8's. I listen to both rock and rap and they performed nicely with both. they are most likely similar subs when it comes to sound so I would prolly go with the cheaper one. if you build the right box either will live up to his expectations.
