  1. I am actually leasing this car so ive been trying to do the install so that at the end of the lease I can return it all back to stock. I'm running 2 12 JL w3 on a JL jx 1000/1. Just got a new box for them to match the specs JL prefers. Atrend makes a box called 12JL01DV. Not exact but pretty damn close to spec. My old box was too small for these subs. For the mids and highs in my front stage I have Focal Auditor 6.5 components. Made custom speaker rings out of some scrap mahogany I had. I wanted to install the in the factory location so I cut two identical rings of .75in thick using a router and glued them together. Used this rubbery foam weather stripping as a gasket around the speaker to make sure it was all sealed at the door panel. For the tweeters the actually fit almost perfect behind the door panel in the factory location. I used steel back strapping, hot glue and sound deadner around the edges of the opening to seal it and prevent rattles. Also made speaker rings for the pioneer d series coaxials in the back doors for the rear stage. Bought some KnuKonceptz 1/0 and ran it all the to back and split it off with 4 gauge using a distro block for the power wire and ran 16 gauge to the mids and highs. Had some spare 1/0 and did a big three upgrade and swapped the battery for an Interstate MT7. Way too many times my car died on me with the little stock battery and its a brand new car!
  2. Who else here has used Hertz or Audison products? [sharedmedia=garage:vehicles:3102]
  3. Hello, I would like some advice on an active 2-way front stage in my 2000 Acura Integra hatchback. I am basically looking for the cleanest most accurate sound possible while still on a budget. SPL doesn't matter and I'm looking strictly for sound quality. I have room for 6.5 inch woofers in the doors but could probably fit 7 inch as well. Tweeters will be in custom fiberglass pods on the corners of the dashboard pointing towards me so pretty much any size will fit. The available amplifier power I have is 100x4 watts RMS at 4 ohms. Head unit is a Pioneer DEH-80PRS and all crossovers, eq, and time alignment will be handled by it. Budget for all four speakers is $300 max. I am mainly looking for raw drivers like those from Parts Express or Madisound but will consider component sets as well. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!
  4. Hey all, I saw an Audiocontrol SA-3055 on eBay and thought I should pick it up for tuning. I remember my brother talking about that thing back in the day and he thought it was the beez knees. What do y'all think?
  5. Here's a link to my Tahoe pics (Wall Design thanks to Robin Butler!) The ISSUE that I'm having is the company that I had build my Wall did NOT "seal it off" properly at all. My Truck is getting a LOT of air movement to the REAR (which shouldn't happen at all...), and as Robin Butler has told me, I'm losing quite a bit of pressure in the front due to this issue. Also I realized they left my entire Roof Panel up on the Tahoe, which I thought was supposed to be removed and put MDF and Spray Foam or something up... I'm at a loss of SOUND QUALITY more or less. Yeah, 4 18's in a 4th is smashing pretty hard, BUT with panels still up that frankly should've been taken out I don't feel that I have a system that is both Clean and Loud. Still rattling when loud. Yes, the entire truck is 2-layers sound deadened with Damplifier Pro and Alpha Damp... ** I'd like to know how I can remove the Headliner off the Roof and fill it in with MDF or whatever and connect it to the wall, as well as Fill in gaps in the Front / Sides / Rear of the Wall so there is absolutely NO air leaks whatsoever. Id like the front of the interior (wall, panels, dash, etc) colored somehow too. Robin mentioned using Vinyl for that. Of course I also realize I need Fiberglassed door panels too. Whatever it takes to get a much more solid sound and clarity while still being loud as heck! - Any Advice is greatly appreciated, thanks guys!
  6. In my search for songs to test for sound quality I came across the Dynamic range database which is really neat. Here is a link to the database. This is a searchable data base too so you can search your favorite songs and see how dynamic they really are. Some background information on Dynamic range Link to site to test your songs for dynamic range so you can upload your results the the database linked above.
  7. Ha Ha!!! Ok... In short, I couldn't stand my wife's Trailblazer being stock. It was KILLING ME. Some time ago, I replaced the front and back speakers with two pretty decent sets of Peerless Mids. The fronts also had factory tweeters in the doors, so I replaced the factory cheepies with some 1" Hifonics Silk Domes (crossed over with a -6db capacitor). However- that wasn't enough. Well, the time came where my brother in law decided to sell his Pioneer 4100 DVD player. 7" screen, usb hookup, dvd, divx, phone hookups, video outs, aux inputs, on and on. (stock photo) I couldn't pass at the price, so I snagged it up with intention of just plopping it in there so it would be not stock and my son could watch movies. THEN- as I was reading though the manual, I realized that with the Pioneer DEQ-P800- this could do Dolby Digital DTS 5.1 surround sound. OOOOH! I had to do this. So, I hopped on eBay and searched and finally found a NIB one of these: It cost me more than the Head Unit did.... But... that is how this audio thing goes. One more thing and one more thing and then suddenly- BAM! Things get out of hand. This thing has RCA outputs, 5x22 wRMS output, and a microphone and a test section that will Auto EQ and Auto Time Align! Wooo Hooo! Done deal. During this time I also went eBay crazy on old school MTX Tweeters. I got a mess of 1" Silk domes with the MTX 5000 crossovers. All brand new- in the boxes, still in the plastic. And then comes the bass. If I go 5.1, I HAVE to have a sub right? ...see how this one more thing goes?? I began making plans on a sub box here with this amp or that. Then the wife jumped into the mix and told me I couldn't go buck wild because she actually uses this car. *GASP* "She is right." I say to myself. She transports my progeny with this thing! ...along with groceries, strollers, and the occasional trash bag, dog, cat or what have you. Then I remembered A-HA! I have an OLD 10" amplified Bazooka tube! (stock photo) Easy stuff... just run one RCA, a tiny power wire from the fuse box under the back seat, and DONE! This build is nothing big visually.... but I will post up pics of the install. Coming right up in my next post:
  8. Im looking at getting 4 15" subs and building a Wall in my Tahoe, but not sure which brand is best for clean + low music. Im leaning towards 4 PSI Platform 2 15's, but now I've researched DC's Lv4 15s, as well as several of the Fi 15s. Call this stupid but I need a system that can play my favorite DECAF track (August Alsina - Downtown 36, 29, 27) as clean loud and low as possible; well, obviously not JUST that song, but I love it. Thanks guys.
  9. I'm sure many of you have heard praises about the SQ of the Pioneer 80PRS head unit. I've been using the 80PRS in my daily driver for about 6 months and since I recently got my hands on an "old school" Panasonic VP-7704P THD / Volt meter, I felt it would be interesting to see how it measured. Test parameters: - 1kHz 0dB test tone from SMD DD-1 setup CD - Internal amp disabled - Measurement taken at end of 17ft RCA Cable (shows exactly what the amp is seeing) - More tests upcoming showing USB/Bluetooth comparisons Wow, impressive results! 4.81V of super clean 0.015% THD at full volume 62 Watch the video in 1080P on YouTube or embedded below:

  11. Anybody have suggestions of tunes with overall good sound quality, lows to highs?
  12. I figured I start a build thread to document my daily driver audio build for my 06' Si. Enjoy First off my friend and I redid the big three: We used #2 ultra flex welding cable for the alt to battery+, battery- to chassis, and chassis to engine block. All connections are in contact with bare metal for optimum efficiency. We fused 200a right before the battery for the alt to battery+ and fused a 200a inline for the power cable which is run through the plastic trim through the fender into the cabin through an open grommet right above the dead pedal. This cable was then run through the driver side trim, through the rear seat and into the trunk. Here are some pics: Note we don't have the fuse holders mounted atm: The next thing we tackled was the HU. I was on the fence for a long time debating whether I wanted to keep the stock HU or go with an aftermarket. After much research and asking around some other forums I decided to get an aftermarket unit as they have many more options and tend to sound better then stock. I got the Pioneer DEH-P7200HD: After some time we then hit the wiring and speaker/amp combo. After seeking help from a friend and listening to what seemed like thousands of speakers I choose the MBQuart PVL-216 6.5" component set for the front. Power is transferred through 16 gauge true OFC speaker wire. This wire is run through the rear seat up the driver side door trim and splits (two to the passenger and two to the drivers side). Up through the stock boot. This thing was a pita as it was a very tight squeeze and to even access the hole for the drivers side you had to tweak your arm around the fuse box. We were very excited to find out that we could recycle the stock speaker hanger. As we didn't really want to mess with the sheet metal. The speaker and baffle were all one unit so we had to do some trimming (or melting) but everything fit like a glove afterwords. Best this about this is you won't be able to tell its aftermarket by looks as we didn't have to trim the doors beauty cover to fit the speaker. Sorry for the dirty car: Drivers Side Passenger Side Unfortunately the new tweets were to big to even thing about mounting up top without doing something custom. After remembering what papasin posted we decided to mount them in the kick panels After spending hours upon hours on the door speakers we then moved on to the amp. I decided to get the Hifonics ZXi80.4. At the time of this picture we just had things mounted or hidden as we ran out of time and I personally really couldn't stand not having a radio as I get crazy if I have no noise of some kind.:screwy: Here are some pics: The wire that goes towards the top of the picture leads to the stock sub. I was very surprised at how well it sounds on an aftermarket amp: We made our own ground directly into the frame of the car. Later on in the next few posts that wire will be trimmed in half:
