davewms9605
I have a question for my car. I have a 1985 Buick Grand National Clone which i got on a super deal, I traded a set of 20's for it but it needed a motor. The body and interior is ok. Well, it had a shot 3.8 V-6, so we went and put in a 307 V-8 out of a cutlass. My question is, before the old motor went, the guy i got it from said the tranny was ok, but when we finally got the motor in and fired up, the tranny just stays in first for about 12 seconds, then the joker rockets into second and jerks the hell out of you. We couldnt figure it out, until i looked and noticed the kickdown cable was hooked up but isnt working at all. I mean its totally broken. The tranny is the 200 series. Could it be just the broken kickdown cable or is it the worst...fried tranny? white4d96
It's probably the tranny. My buddy had a '86 with the same trans and his blew up without him really beating on it, that was the first sign of it going. After about a month, it lunched reverse. There are upgrade kits for stronger transmissions for cheap IIRC; those transmissions are notorious for being weak. Quote Too many projects, too little time... Mikesmith0890
should be able just to sawp trannys out if you know what you're doing.. a 350 would give you plenty of room to work with as far as rated horsepower for the tranny. plenty of guides online to do the swap Quote AlphaDamp Sound Deadening CDL Mat - The best Vibration Damper Ever! I'd hit that so fucking hard whoever pulled me out would be King of England. Lol... looks like we were on the same page. Car-B-Ques suck.ya, tires and paint burning make the marshmallows taste funny. Im going to try to do the filter and oil change first along with replacing the kickdown cable. If all else fell, then i will switch the tranny out. We have a place out here called Pull-A-Part and you pay for trannys for like $75.00 but you just have to pull them out yourself, but we'll see. Thanks everyone for the help, if you can think of anything else, please let me know Quote Current Setup: Sony CDX-7401UI 2- 12" Alpine TypeR DVC2ohm Subs Custom ported box 4-American Bass 6.5in SQ-6B Mids 4-Pioneer TS-T15 Tweeters 2-Crunch P1500.1 Mono Amps 2-runs 1/0 GA KnuKonceptz KnuKonceptz RCA's 1-Stinger SPV44 Battery Coming soon: 250 Amp Alt Custom Door Panels Second Skin Sound Deadner All in my 1986 Monte Carlo SS!!!
