MAXSPL_153 Posted July 22, 2010 Report Share Posted July 22, 2010 Ok so I have a 1979 gmc 1 ton 4wd Dually . I had to put in a new flexplate (168 tooth) and I put in a new starter also . The new starter grinds like a mofo! Went and bought another .. Same problem . Bought another , same problem . Shimms don't work , everywhere I go they say " wellthats what it calls for " .. Yea right .. I mean they don't even start the truck , they just grind the piss out of my new flexplate . Ie here'd that they changed starters sometime back in the early 80's and I need the first gen . I've also herd that I need a long throw starter .. Can't seem to find one anywhere . Any thoughts on what I need to do to fix this or where I can find a long throw starter ? Ps: it's a offset bolt starter also . Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
