Freaked me the **** out when I first heard it. my truck did the same this summer... most likely it is the compressor, mine was making the grinding noise while i test my friend subs with my system. popped the hood & mine was shooting sparks, cut the truck off. then started the truck with every thing off & every thing was cool till i turned the AC or Heat on. after changing the compressor all was good...
