  1. Are there any advantages to thicker MDF or is it just for box strength?

currently i'm looking at a fairly low power system. i'm looking to get 2 12's of the new low cost sundowns and maybe 800 watt or so amp. I've never had that loud of a system so i'm not sure what to expect. think ill need thicker than 3/4 mdf?

I like overkill, so i would do either 1" or double layered 3/4"

Would you be ok with one layer? Probably depending on build quality.

No way in hell you will need thicker than 3/4. I don't know the parameters on those subs but from the sound of what they see suppose to be 1/2 would be fine. 3/4 might be easier to find so from that perspective that's why that thickness is generally used. If 1/2 is available I would use it with sub but if 3/4 is easier to find and cheaper use it. It will be a heavier box but not ant " better"
