  1. They can easily play down to 20hz, iirc they were tested for 8hours at 100watts playing pink noise all the way down to 20hz, but since your running more then rated power to them, I would set it around 60-70hz with a 12db slope since your running more than rated power, but Id make sure to keep it clean power. Test it out with the sub stage off and if you hear any distortion of any kind turn it up slightly more.

Weren't you using infinity tweeters in addition to the Sundown components, and had issues with tweeters cutting out due to the tweeter protection kicking in?

I would sure hope those other tweeters are not being ran off the same amp or the sundown passive crossovers because changing the ohm load of the speakers by adding more speakers to the passive crossover network will change the crossover frequency of the passive crossovers and could easily damage the speakers.

no this set up is in a different vehicle now on a different amp kicker zx350.2 does 110 watts at 4ohm per channel.
  2. If you want to be louder, you could add another set of tweets and mids.

I'm lost I never said I was trying to get louder! Just trying to maximize what I have.

You are killing your tweeters because its not loud enough. Otherwise just turn the volume down a little.
honestly don't understand your logic here. Everything is set flat no eq boost at all head until clip free at 40 out of 40 volume, I set made 39 my max, gain set with Sq track on the dd1. Steve himself has said once set you can go to your max volume trouble free. I would agree with you if I set using-10db it's to much. Amp is rated 120 Watts x 2 @ 4-Ohms so power should be a good match.
  3. If your tweeters are cutting out then you are kicking their butt. The dd1 is just a reference. Different songs can be recorded at different levels and different sources can have a different level too. Ultimately it is up to the operator of the volume control.

definitely but going with 0db on the crossover wouldn't that equal out the power with the woofer and help the tweeters from over working because +3db has to be over working them I believe.
  4. That's for attenuation of the tweeter, it allows you to modify the tweeter output in case they at to sharp or making a little. I'd stay with it at 0dB. I feel like you should be hooking the dd1 on the amp output before the crossover when checking for distortion, but I might be wrong.

yes I have the dd1 on the amp output not on the crossover. I'm basically I guess looking at if I'm setting my gain at -5db on the amp then having the tweeter on +3db it's stressing the tweeter over power? And robbing mid bass performance from the woofer.
  5. Earlier in the thread someone told you to run full range.

In my opinion that was bad advice.right now I have the hpf on my hend unit at 100hz it has a 12db slope.

You should absolutely have a high pass filter set on your components. Otherwise you will destroy them by trying to play too low.

  6. I have a rockford p300x2 running a pair of infinity kappa tweeters that say 50 watt rms and a pair of pioneer ts-D1730C 60 watt rms soon to be sundown sa 6.5csv2 .. with the dd1 currently would I be ok with the -5db track?

it sounds like your amp is slightly too big for those mids/highs. That 300x2 is probably doing 400 watts. Get the proper sized amp or use the -5 to start with and back it down a little bit. I wouldn't use the 0db track. Personally, something like a -2 or -3 overlamp would be perfect for those IMO.
been running this week at -2.5db thinking about trying the -5db now the sundowns should handle it is hope. I still have the kappas on each channel also running passive on the infinity crossovers. So total rms handling should be close to 200 watt per channel I believe.
  7. Try it out. Don't go hammering on it right off though. Slowly turn it up after setting with the -5dB and listen for any popping, distorting, smells. Make sure sub-bass is off so you can really concentrate on what the mids and tweets are doing. But all in all, I think you should be good to go.

You may have mentioned it already, but are you doing active or passive?

    passive

thanks steve, I went with a larger amp because I'll be installing the sundown audio sa6.5cs v2 soon as the weather is good, I figured I would be at a good power match up with them.
