  1. Thanks for the reassurance. I cooked my alt about a month ago so its been a long ride up until this point. The alternator looks amazing though. I almost wish I would have gotten it a custom color or something. Getting it professionally installed tomorrow hopefully. I would do it myself but my mechanic is chargin such a little amount I might as well save myself the headache. I also purchased a Mech Big 3 kit. My D4800 should arrive from the ups guy tomorrow as well with some 580 short posts.

    By the way, that's a nice hairpin you have. With the big3 and XS batt you should be good.

  2. I have a smaller pulley on mine but I installed new 1 inch shorter belt, new tensioner, new pulleys, etc still only 14.2 maybe in the early mornings. No belt slip or black residue. After that 14.0 all day even with system not playing and drops to 13.9 when pressing on the gas. Mechman has not got back to me yet left a message. Also mine is not PCM controlled so I should be seeing benefits with this alt. Tested voltage directly from the alt again this morning upon first crank of the day and 14.2. Car has been sitting overnight 10+ hrs and only 14.2.WTF.

    When I first installed 3 months ago it was 14.4 at start up. Losing volts on a new alt has me confused. Nothing has changed in my system but the lower voltage.

  3. I'm having the same problem with my 240a in my 02 expedition. Finally got fed up and called mechman today they advised me to charge my 2 batts and see. Just took batts off the charger did a test run and no luck. Still only 14.1 max at idle and goes down to 13.9 when give it gas. This is at cold and hot with or without a load. Also same problem with power. Seems to be less powerful after installing alt. Im clueless so I hope you find the answer. Next and final step is going to do a full rewire this weekend. After that alt may be going back for service. Stock alt ran 14.5 all day until system full tilt.

  4. Last week I installed my new 240 mechman and I already had Big 3 done using 0 ga and a rear battery. My mechman voltage at a stop light is 14.4 but when I'm driving it drops to 14-14.2. This is with the stereo on or off. Why do I decrease voltage when the alt rpm is increased? That's the opposite right?. I installed a 1 inch shorter belt with new tensioner and grounded the alt to the batt as instructed so no belt slipping. My factory alt stayed at 14.4 all time until bassing hard and I thought this upgrade would make things a lil better not lose voltage. I luv the new alt it does snap back after bassing full tilt and I know 14.2 is still acceptable but I guess Im having a hard time understanding what is wrong. Can anyone help?
