Okay give me a sec I was just doing what I was told to do because apparently the flat setting for alpine is 15
-
I have been told that for the alpine headunits you need to set the sub level at +15 for the alpine this is flat so in reality it is 0 I googled this information and found others saying the same thing the 15 gives the sub preout the full 4 volts. Explain because from what I have read this is correct way to do this for alpine head units

If I turn the volume up with 0 gain with sub level set at 15 on headunit like I was told I get a distortion signal at 23 with the _10db track and 20 with the -5 track I then go to amp turn up gain knob the light flashes distortion around 1/4 turn if I move it farther than that the distortion light goes off and then comes back around 2/3 if I go past 2/3 on the knob the distortion light goes off but when the gain knob is at its max the 40hz signal goes out. Let me know if I am doing anything wrong bc I believe I am doing it correct.
-
So is it normal that I can only have the volume at 23 with a -10db tone and 20 with a -5db tone . The amp still shows a blip at 1/4 turn and again at 2/3 so should I set gain at half to be safe or leave it at below a quarter turn it never turns solid just a flash and if you move it a mm either direction it goes away doesn't show a clipped signal at full gain only the 40 Hz signal light goes away
-
Should I use -5 or -10db
-
Okay did what everyone said and front and rear rca no clipping at max 35 same with sub rca what should I do now. My max volume to subs with lvl 15 is 20
-
Okay I will do headunit with 0db give me a few minutes
-
I am also still getting the blips for the distortion when turning up the gain never stays solid if I turn gain all the way up the 40hz signal goes off

Okay -10db track it is clipping at 21 out of 35 with sub level at 15 if I have sub level at 0 it clips at 34 what is wrong with it
-
Do I just plug the dd1 probes into the rca outs on the back of radio
-
Yeah I won't know till I check it out but if it is clipping at that low of a volume with the sub level at 15 like you said something must be wrong
-
Thanks guys I will trying this today after work and let you know how it goes
-
Do you have any idea what might be wrong if it does clip at this low level
-
I'm using all external amps so a 4 channel and the saz 1200. I haven't tested it so I could be wrong will do it after work today I just know before when I set gains if it clipped at 35 with 0 bass when I set the gains with plus 7 my max clean signal was like 27 I wasn't using a -5db track though I believe it was the -10 db track if that makes a difference
-
It just seems strange having my maxed unclipped level at probably 19 out of 35 max volume haha
-
Thanks that is what I was thinking
-
Okay thank you I will do this when I get home maybe that will fix why I am not seeing clipping like I should be on the dd1.
-
Yes I am using the dd1 it does show that a 40hz signal is present so are you saying if I put sub level at 15 and set gains I will see where it actually clips. The only reason I have doubts is I was told by others to do the exact opposite
-
The sub amp clips at 35 of 35 with sub level at 0 before when I set it with sub level 7 it clipped at 28 so seven less than before I feel that I was correct to set it with the sub level at 0 which would be flat not 15. If you want to explain more I would appreciate it the headunit is the cde 148bt. And I know that clipping is indicated by a solid red but what does it mean when I turn up the gain get a red light at 1/4 turn that will turn off as soon as I move it up or down and the same at 2/3 I don't get a solid red at full gain either that's why I don't know where to set it. If I am supposed to set gain with plus 15 sub level please explain why . Thank you

Thanks for all the help

I also know this is unrelated but would inverting my subs increase the efficiency of my amplifier at all. I just inverted the subs today and noticed that it seems like I am not getting as big of a voltage drop. I was just curious I will be changing it back bc I don't like how it looks
-
I'm in NH I mean I was thinking cross referencing my gain settings with a DMM so I can see if the quarter turn is in the ballpark or if it's the 2/3 turn like I stated earlier I get the distortion blips but can turn up gain all the way and the light never comes on which seems very strange. But it's strange bc when I am finding the max clean signal for the amp before turning the gain knob I get a full distort signal
