  1. no you are correct, it is alot of work involved.

    way more than most realize. It will become an obsession, gl with it all.

    Ray, it already has become an obsession!!! :o all summer working in the rain, heat, late nights (3am.alone!) all to find out that my first box was crap, it trashed both of my subs and amps! installed new boxes that were labeled spl boxes (via kicker!) to find out they were nothing more than super street bass boxes tuned to 30Hz! and now I got a car that has a sun roof, likes very low notes.. 30 ~36Hz.  :( So far nothing is going right for me! fagetabout the credit card!  Man, sometimes I just think there is no f**kin way I'm gonna hit 150.

    All I would like to say is of Team maxxsonics and you, I won't quit. Just living in Japan makes it a lot harder to get the goal..  thanks for your time Ray & everyone else that chimed in.

    wish me luck.

  2. Boss man

    I know it will not be easy, but since I'm going for the goal next season, I'm thinking about changing my car to an astrovan, the setup will be as follows.

    4-goliaths

    2- atomic apx 18D1's

    8 - powermaster 16v batts.

    and throw in a powermaster charger to make everything nice! ;)

    also a nice alt (maybe) :P

    I know there will be lots of work to be done but, the raw materials are there. correct me if I'm wrong!

    got this idea from Rusty over at WCA ;D

  3. Steve,

    I have a  95 honda accord wagon, that I will use for spl only, it will hold 2 atomic apx18D1's. I hear that small boxes are doing the high scores, question, how small should I make this box? The car likes low hurtz (43~46Hz) that is a killer on my system.. advice please

    the system

    2 Autotek MM4000's

    2 apx 18D1's

    3 kinitek 2400 Monsters

    3 no name truck batteries

    Since the subs are D1's, I'm also thinking of doing 1 sub wired to both MM4000's  8k to one sub! :-*

    could you give me some advice on both of these setups? remember, this car will be all out spl SS 1~2

    looking to hit low to mid 60's ;D

    Thanks

    Gavin :-[

  4. they dont sell optima in japan?  Dont they have autoparts stores there?  What do you do if you have 4 18's and dual alts in your rickshaw? (*SP)   ;D :D

    Steve,

    yes, we have optima's here, they go for $230 a pop. anything else won't do! and as for my rickshaw. the 4 18's are a bit too much but the 2 12" apxx's are working fine..The only problem is the human alt. uphill is a bitch! :o But down hill, the system is boomin with no dimmin ;D If we have a comp at MT. Fuji, I'm sure to hit 170! LOL thats going down the mountain at full tilt.

  5. Right now, I have 3 2400 kinetik monsters, I want to order one more to have an even set for each amp, but shipping for 1 batt to japan is crazy, so I figured I could pick up some red tops to help balance out everything. Question, how many red tops equal 1 2400 monster?

    Not trying to be rude, but please don't suggest other batteries, I've done my research and here is what the others would cost

    2150's = $700 per (special order ) :o >:( :-X

    NSB90 = almost the same with shipping included :'(

    optima      red tops = $230.00 :D

                Yellow tops = $260.00 (g31) :-[

  6. the power acoustik AB amps are actuallt nice for what you pay. its not that great of an amp, but dollar for dollar id say its more value than hifonics

    :-X dollar for dollar, I would take hifonics anyday!  better quality, better service, competition proven! :^  I'm not knocking PA, they are great entry level amps,  but when the shit hits the fan, I would much rather have HIFONICS backing me! ;)

  7. WEll do you have a desired frequency? there are equations to use to find the frequency of your current port dimensions or even to work out new dimensions with your own desired frequency... i dunno about bracing the port tho... wont that reduce the port volume which might change the frequency?

    Bro, I would like to know the equations to figure out my port freq now ;D I have no Idea what it will do!

  8. Raise it up how ever high you need and fiberglass it to give it good bracing. Kinda like what did Steve with the Navigator build up.

    What kind of ports are/will you be using?

    Righ now, I have no Idea on port size, I was thinking of just leaving it the way it is, The longest port I can make is only 13" long before the port starts to cover the woofer cone :o

    any suggestions

    My port play area is

    H=12.5"

    W=31.5"

    D=13"

  9. Well, today started out  :^, got up early and did some sanding, resined the corners, all looked well until I tried to put the sub in the box :o, and it would not fit!! for  the life of me I could not figure out why, then it hit me like a ton of bricks!! I braced the wrong side!!  The area I was working so hard in was the sealed area! So I had to remove all the bracing, and start to sand an get the opposite area ready.  After a few hours of sanding, I did a sub test and again was upset :'(, The baffle board was place so low that the sub was resting on the box floor! There was NO space under the magnet.  Panic, anger and just a feeling of f**k it came over me, 7 hours of work and no happy result :V :-[ :'(

    Well, time to cowboy up and try to repair this  newbie mistake (note: MEASURE YOUR S**T!) After reading about how steve had to do a break down on one of his almost if not completed projects, I figure, if steve can do it. SO CAN I :^ To raise the subs a few inches off the box floor, I'll create some basics spacers, about 2 rings high, it should be easy using my Jasper jig model 200. I wanted to add at least 2 more 1" sheets of MDF to the baffel board, but due to the resin and side braces, I can't, but for bracing, I'll use some all thread :D  Question is where to put them? Do I all thread the top port and the bottom port?

    P.S. If I did not explain things correctly, just take a look at the box.. the wood braces should be up top, the box is upside down >:(

    holla back when you can youngin ;)

  10. Can't speak for the other amps, but I can for the Autotek.. GREAT AMP! ;) it will give you what you ask for, Just have the power it asks for!

    Relatively speaking, these amps are supposed to not be that power-hungry though, right?

    I contacted Maxxsonics just to make sure I was correct, here is the reply.

    The MM4000 is very efficient for an amp its size. The XX Cyclops is a 4000watt amp that is a little more "power hungry" than the MM4000. :D

    I hope this helps a bit.

  11. Can't speak for the other amps, but I can for the Autotek.. GREAT AMP! ;) it will give you what you ask for, Just have the power it asks for!

    Relatively speaking, these amps are supposed to not be that power-hungry though, right?

    kowboy, what do you classify as power hungry?  I do comps, so I have 2 kinetik 2400's going to each amp. :D

  12. The PA 2400D is a good amp for the price. I run the SPL Z1X 3000D which is one step up from the amp your asking about. www.splusa.net. series II. strong and good power for a daily amp.. Never had any problems. ;D

  13. Steve,

    I posted this same question to my team mates over at Maxxsonics, but I would like your advice also.

    I got 8 weeks to get my car ready for the Japan finals! So far, here are the pics of the box I had to modify. It went from a 6th.order to a 4th.order.

    accordboxua0.th.jpg bracingab4.th.jpg

    Now, here is my problem. the "top" part measures

    W=31.5"

    H= 9.5"

    D= 49.75"

    Question, do I try to build a port for the top part, or just leave it open as one big port, and flare the edges? The box is for all out SPL ONLY! holding 2 APX 18D2's..

    also, the box has been resined, but not sure if I need more bracing? in the bottom area. Once the box is in the car, the outter walls will be lined with 2x4's all around.

    any advice??  =V^

  14. Steve, First, the box looks great!  I wanted to ask you about the inside setup and resin.. Did you just use the whole 5 gal. of resin alone or did you fiber glass and resin the inside??  Also, is resin supose to be very thick with the hardner added? As you can see, I just started learning about resin so I'm a bit lost.. is there a way to think this stuff out or I'm not supose to? =V^I gotta try that 45 degree angle thing you did.. I think I may need some more resin. Waiting to hear from you. until then take care and GOD BLESSGavin
