Without knowing the size of your port, that box is 11.43 cubes without any sub or port displacement. Your current box is way too small, which is why it seems like they need more air space. Build a box 13 cubes NET after sub and port displacement with 165 sq in of port tuned to 36 hz and you will be A LOT happier.

Basically, the bigger the box (when going ported), the less power you need to use to get them moving, and you can get it to play lower without tuning lower. However, going too big, and the subs will basically have no back pressure, and won't sound good at all. What are the dimensions of you box and port right now?

Thanks guys. I absolutely love how the box turned out. I really wish it was in my vehicle. Haha. And that 150 is just right around the corner. This thing was made the ground pound, and the customer honestly doesn't even care about numbers. bad_ass_car: i think the box is a little on the big side. What kind of vehicle is this going in? I would recommend about 13-15 cubes with about 180 sq in of port tuned betwee. 33-36 hz. If it's going in an sub, i would recommend doing subs up and port back. Port up does well in an suv also, so if that's what you want by all means go for it.

Score Update!!!! Brain (customer) went to his first show today with the new box. With brand new subs that have maybe 10 minutes play time on them, and no time to tune (box position, gain setting, frequency), he pulled out a 149.2 at 48 hz!! A couple of people at the show will be getting me videos within the next day or 2, so will be showing some nasty flex. Customer is VERY happy with this setup, and i can't wait to get over to his place and play around with it to get that 150. It's in there, just have to find it.

Thanks guys. This is my 6th kerfed box ive built. Used to always do the kerf with a circular saw, but i figured out how to take the gauge down on my table saw and now i do them on it. Comes out a lot cleaner, but its more of a pain to do it on a table saw. Guy is picking it up wednesday and should be playing this weekend hopefully.

Thanks man. It's a pain in the ass to move this thing in and out of the truck bed by myself. .Haha. I've built boxes with similar port widths, and haven't had a problem with port flex, especially when securing from the top of the port to the top of the box. If it needs it thought, i will add one, but i don't forsee needing one. He needs to beef up his electrical, and might just run it at 2 ohms daily, and .5 ohms for comps. Either way, should be a low end monster.

Build this box in a couple hours this morning for a local customer from Tulsa, OK. Box is 12.5 cubes with a big kerfed port that's 162 sq. in. tuned to 32 hz for 4 Skar Audio VVX 15's running off an AQ3500 at 0.5 ohms. All of this will be going in a 4 door Chevy Blazer. Guy won't have the last 2 subs for another week or so, so it will be a while before we get numbers/videos. Box is fully resined on the inside with 2x4 bracing. Round overs on all corners, with flush mounts for the subs. Anyway, here's the pics. Questions? Comments?

Ok. I'm about maxed out at 10.2 cubes. I'll be tuning the box to 32-34 hz (wants some ground pounding lows). Subs up and port to the back 6" from the back hatch. He'll be powering them with a SAZ3000, so i think they'll do good in a 10 cube box with that much port. And, it'll leave him room to upgrade amps and the subs will still have good cone control with the "smaller" volume. -
Building a box for a Tahoe and was throwing around the idea of using a single 12" aero port tuned to 32-34 hz. Box will be 10 cubes running off (i think) 3500 watts for all 4. Sound like a good design, or would something like 3 8" aeros be better? Box will be under the top of back seats, subs up port back.
