Make the shape in mdf first.
Then double stick or hot glue the pieces together and use a flush trim on a router to copy that to the plexi
I always forget about the flush trim bit. That is a great idea.

Everything I do, I try to do as clean as possible, utilize the natural style of the car without cluttering it up by adding a bunch of randomness
I like that. i hate clutter too. I dont worry about it so much on my Expy but when i had my Ranger i kept it minimalistic while still having style.

I would probably put some blue tape on the bottom of the jigsaw so it doesnt scratch the plexi.
That is a good idea too but for this I just sanded face since it wont be seen.
-
Here it is all lit up:
-
Thanks, I'll have to try that. I have one more to make for my other amp.
-
Yeah thats what I did but there has to be a better way to DIY. What blade types are best for plexi?
-
Looking top notch man! You sure have an eye for what looks great.
So when are you going to start offering apprenticeships?
-
So I made a base to mount my amp on out of plexiglass yesterday so I cut the basic shape with a table saw then used my jig saw to cut out the center section. With the jig saw all it did was melt the crap and it was a pain to get hte center section out and I cracked it. Luckily I was able to glue the crack and it didn't break off.
Ill get a pic of the actual plexi tomorrow but here is what I can get from work.
So what do you guys use to get a nice smooth cuts on plexi? I would have used my router but I dont have any template guide bushings and I'm not a free hander.

lol Nice! I should have launched something when i set off the air bags I had.

Thats just awesome Steve!! I can't wait to see the show because, for one: your da man, and two: I like to see shit break. lol

I bet that is it, I used Win7 and didn't have any problems and now that I think about it was on a burnt disk.
Oh good I hope it speeds it up a little. Scrolling through the USB is painful. lol
-
Thanks man i appreciate all the help today!
From what i read and tried, the firmware update i think it was used a disk and the gps update used the sd card. I had to update the firmware first so the gps would update but I could never get it to work.
So after thinking about this again, i was doing some reading on the Kenwood forums and there is some kind of issue with Vista when burning the software to disk. So Im gonna try it in Win7 and hope that works.

Ok cool thats what I needed to know. Thanks!!

Oh and he has the big 3 done already
Edit: How do you like that head unit? I have the DNX9140 and it is painfully slow. I tried to get it to update and I cant make it for some reason.

Lasers sound like cheating. lol
I wished I had access to that. Can it cut complex curves and such? I assume so.
