Doing a wall setup usually require more volume (up to 50% larger than suggested box volume), the woofers need some air to get really loud. Example: The first box I made for my DD Z9518`s barely broke a 150 (okey, non walled and too little box volume) Then when I made the "real" one with a wall with about 30% larger than suggested volume it did 154.5, and it did 150+ from 23-60hz. The most common mistake people do is making too small enclosures for the woofers. Some times it`s not about surface area, but volume

Yup! Sorry for the metric measurements, but I guess ya`ll figure it out

I`m giving away my box design I made some time ago for my "mini" woofers.
This box was designed for 2 DD 1508`s in a stationwagon, but I think it would work great with Sundown 8"s as well. I`ve tested it some other cars and were loud in every one of them (not testet in trunk cars though)
But if you want a good box for your DD`s or similar woofer, I think this box will suit you well. Tuned to ~35hz.
The sketchup does not show kerfs, but you get the idea.

Hope you`ll enjoy it!

Gotta love poppin' dust caps and floating hair. Good vid, man.
Thanks! Poppin dust caps, pulverising voice coils and tearing up the suspension is fun, got a few subs left laying around so they will get the hammer next weekend lol
-
haha, awesome man
Thanks Ed!
-
Got rid of some old woofers I had laying around, the wall socket and the amp did the job quite well, lol And threw in a couple of hairtricks as well

I'll see if I can get it to you tonight. It will be late though like after midnight my time. Maybe closer to 1 or 2 this morning.
That will be fine, diffirent time zones

I think it's in his download. Either Pink Floyd or Phil Collins. Both get down. Use google and search Phil Collins bass remix or something and find skink to SMD and you should find it. I have it but I'm on my computer so can't send it
Could you send it to me when you can? I`m gonna shoot some vids tomorrow and would love to have that in there

There is a version on the forums somewhere I do believe by bigpimpin. One thing decaf posted about the version on here though is it's made out if pure sine waves which means it's similar to burping your system which isn't good for a 3-5 minute song. The version Tommy has is custom by a dj and very very few have the original. It's not chopped or screwed just bass added
Okey, think I need to edit my title. It`s a slowed and bass added version of the "in the air tonight" song right? I tried to do it myself with audacity but it had a lot of clipping and I didn`t get it low enough. And I don`t have the patience right now to learn how to use it so I will rather have someone with experience to do it
-
Ok Are you asking for it to be Chopped and screwed? or bass boosted.
I thought that Tommy's was custom made for him.
If you are looking for his bass boosted version then i'm not sure of where you are gonna find it.
As far as screwed and chopped goes....
You might like it... you might not...
Free of charge...
Thanks man, but not quite the one I`m looking for, but I appriciate your help
I dun think you can play that low.
lol jk. Have you tried Bigpimpen91's version?
As long as it`s not under 20hz it`s OK, it falls on it`s ass below that, lol But no, I`ve tried to get in touch with him but I think his inbox is full or something.

I just gotta have this song! The one in Tommy McKinnies vid, In the air tonight, if you make it to 25-38hz range that would be perfect! Or to make it like it sounds on the vid. PM me and name your price I will pay through paypal.
Here`s the vid of the song

Thanks man! I think I got to do some Trail and error as dwright27 said And when building a wall, either your standard ported one or a clamshell, tuning is gonna change a bit (usually drops a few hz down) so I think I gonna tune it a tad higher on the calculator and rather adjust it after if it`s needed
-
I wanna see your buildlog NOW! Gonna run a similar setup as well, so I could use some inspiration from you.
-
Calculating the tuning is somewhat a challange with clamshells. The clam angles themself act like what I would call 'phantom port length' it will have an effect on the end tuning. Without running your numbers If your going for 35Hz tuning then thats a good one. Frankies was tuned around 30Hz about the same as mine.
Are you getting a good deal on those drivers? Holla at me, we can work something out
Edit: noticed you got them already. Good luck!
You got mail you tease, lol

Thanks Oldsboomer!
But is there another design that is more efficient than this? diamond or a tunnel maybe? The subs where sent from italy a couple of day ago and I got about a week until they are here so I wanna be sure that the design I use is the most efficient
-
Clamshells don't model like a normal ported box, everyone trying to apply ported box tuning equations to them can just give up now.
Ported clams model closer to a T-Line, Tapped Horn (which is essentially what a lot of them are) or even a series tuned 6th order depending how restrictive the mouth is.
Yes, funky quarter wave shit. There you go, I said it.
what kind of program should i use to get the right results then?
-
I'd tune much lower if you want to play ANY music.
I'd tune to about 34-36ish if you dont listen to any low music. Also the physical port length is not 6.6" its actually about 31.6" but because the opening is bigger then the back port if you calculate the tunning with the actual" port width you'll be lower then it actually is.
try calculating the the tunning with the height of the port being about 11"H instead of 7.8"
and make the length 31.6" that should change your results on the calculator drastically, and it shouldn't be to far off from your true tunning
I have NO intensions of having a 50hz tuning frequenzy, lol I`m aiming for a 35ish tuning frequenzy, I shall try that and see what the calculator says. I`m trying to replicate what Frankie Rio did in his lexus, hoping it will produce decent pressure in the car
Edit: Got a 38hz tuning now (and 7cubes of port volume, lol), that`s more like it
-
So I`ve been thinking about doing a clamshell for a while now, the subs I`m most likely gonna use is (12) 12" Hertz Show SPL 2x2ohm and 3 dynabel BF8501 (5000watts each). I got about 14 cubes of net volume, according to Torres calculator the tuning frequenzy is 49.9hz, but I don`t know how long the actual port length is (where it ends) I just put the length of the plate behind the baffles. Couldn`t find the recomended box volume of the subs on their site, but here is the link:

Here are some pics of what I`ve sketched up, does it look OK? (even made the measurements in inches just for ya`ll lol)
I am willing to pay someone for the job if I think youre qualified.
Edit: the wall thickness is about 2.5 inches.

Nice man!
I knew you were from northern Europe when I saw the chick on the right. We don't have many of them around here in the States.
Thanks man, but I think you do have alot of really nice women in the states too

Title had me thinking for a minute lol. Nice
next time I should throw a cup in there and make a 3 girls 1 cup hairtrick, lol

Edited some of the clips I took yesterday

Has anybody here ever done this.....

Sometimes less is more, I`ve tried squeesing alot af subs in a very limited space (compared to the ideal volume), just not worth it. Have done some simulations with isobaric setups and it gives a slight boost on the lower frequenzy`s. And lower volume than requiered will often cause a peaky response.
