Looking to the experts to find out a little more info on the 18" dual 2-ohm Q series subwoofer. Will be getting the high QTS option and running in a sealed enclosure. Question is what would be the optimal frequency range for the sub? Also wondering what size sealed box this sub would really shine in?

thanks for the info guys. i change my mind entirely too much lol. even when i think my ideas are simple they end up being difficult. i was doing some research and i think that a 18" fi q in a 4 cu ft sealed box will get me what im looking for.

thanks for the advice. would the 15" dc level 4 work well on the 1k channel of the hifonics amp? i really like these subs and they seem like i could use sealed for now and maybe ported in the future. any thoughts?

sorry bout that, forgot my manners. i want to run sealed because i like the sound it produces and being able to have a smaller enclosure. what i am looking for is loud, low bass that sounds clean while still hitting hard. this will be a daily driver, no plans for any competitions. amp will be a hifonics zxi60.4 + 1k planning on running a single dual 2-ohm sub so i can use the 5th channel at 1 ohm getting the full power to the sub. hopefully this is some slightly more useful information.

i need help finding what the best 15" subwoofer rated at 1000 watts rms, is dual 2 ohm, works well in a sealed enclosure, and costs no more than $400 is. any help or insight in the right direction is greatly appreciated.

Ok peoples, this is what I came up with. The box is 36 wide, 24 deep and 15 tall. The port is 2.5" wide and 13.5" tall, giving me 33.75 sq in of port area per sub. Each sub will have 1.87 cu ft after speaker and port displacement. The port is 38.625" long bringing the frequency of the box to about 33.45 Hz. All math was checked against the equation found on the JL site provided, along with following the guidelines JL has for ported enclosures. So in order to get the port area and the port length I need, the port will have to be pretty long, so I was wondering if when doing a slotted port you can double back the ports to get the required length? Pic included to show what I mean by double back.

So how much port area do I need for these speakers? If I go with slot ported, how much do I need to aim for, right now my new design is reading about 21 sq in of port area for a roughly 1.8-2 cu ft box for each sub.

So, other than that everything looks ok? If I change to two 4" ports it tells me that they need to be 13.5" long to get to 33 Hz, if that is true they will not fit the dimensions of the box while facing up. So the question is, if I port facing the rear of the trunk like the subs, will it still be worthwhile to utilize the openings for the stock speakers in the rear deck (that the 3" ports would be aiming towards) or should I seal them off?

Just wanting to know if you all could double check my work for me, make sure I'm on the right track. Equipment will be (2) DC Audio Level 4 12's on a DC Audio 2.0K, music played will be Juggalo and Hard Rock/Metal, vehicle is a daily driver. Wanting to know if the specs of the enclosure will work well with the subs, and also what kind of sound this style of setup will produce (i.e. more SQ, more SPL, more lows, more punch, etc.) External Dimensions - 36W x 15H x 18D Wood is 3/4" One open enclosure with 2 flared ports Ports are 3" x 7.5" Enclosure in trunk with subs facing out, away from seats and ports facing up towards empty holes where factory 6.5's were I'm getting about 4 cu ft tuned to about 33 Hz. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

I was just wondering if anyone knows of anything going on in central Ohio where I might be able to hear some really loud systems to help me figure out exactly what I'm looking for. Maybe a shop, a show or even one of the SMD members that might be able to let me hear what a real system sounds like. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks man, you been really helpful I made a quick SketchUp model to make sure I understood what you were talking about, the port would be facing the back seats and the speakers on the passenger side or vice versa? Also, can you use a polyfill type product in a ported enclosure like you could a sealed enclosure to make the box think it's bigger than it is? Would this help?
