  1. Don't have either one of thoes on my amp.. Just a hp/ap/lp switch and a crossover knob.

So I guess I would want to tune the box at 30hz that is a nice mid point between 33 and 28. I like the low deep bass..

with a 30hz tune it should be good up through 60-70hz right

I cant read anywhere on my manual with my Fosgate box where it is tuned at.. but it hits really hard on this song here..

JJ Fad - SuperSonic at 28 seconds into the track

  2. no. alot of audio sites recommend tuning the sub boxes really high since not alot of people listen to low rap music like chopped and screwed stuff. that, and they want something really loud at a high frequency.

a sub will not be damaged by tuning lower than the manufacturer states. its only harmful to a sub (any sub) if you go BELOW the tuning frequency of the box without a sub sonic filter set correctly.

So what you are saying that if I continue to bank some zz top - my heads in Mississippi which parts of the song are tuned at 33hz but my box is tuned to lets say 50hz then I could damage my sub

  3. Also while I am at it... I have a volt meter on my battery and with my stereo off I idle at 13.6v and when I have the stereo on full tilt it fluctuates from 13.6v to 12.6v but never lower then 12.6v. Now would it be recommended to upgrade the alternator in this instance or not. My factory alternator put out 130amp stock. I was thinking of getting a 200amp alt but with this info would you think that it would still be necessary?

  4. Yea I built my last box by my self and tuned it, was not a pro job but it did the job well... but if someone is willing to design a box for 2 p2 series 12's 2 ohm (will be bridged at 4 ohm) that would be great.

They are going into a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer.. I was thinking of building a box anyway, but was debating on just making it a box for 4 12" subs so I can add a couple more down the road with another amp.

  5. A long time ago I use to have a good old school set up.. I had a 2 punch 150's, one 150 per Old School Rockford Fosgate 12" Power series Sub sub would have been made in like 1989-1990. They sounded great and I was hitting the low note great.

Not here is my current problem... I have the following equipment in my -sig-

Rockkford Fosgate Subs Pre Built P2 12's 2 2ohm running bridged at 4 ohms on a P6002 amp Should be seeing 300RMS per sub

Dont get me wrong the system sounds great nice and clear.....BUT

I am really missing the low end notes.. For example

ZZ Top - My Heads in Mississippi at 1:05 into the track it has some low notes in it that my old system use to just shake the crap out of everything.

This system I have now I have more power going to my subs then my old system but I am hardly getting anything out of that song during the low notes... So I am thinking that this Rockford custom box is not tuned low enough to get these notes. It said the frequency response is from 26hz-250hz so I would think I should get these notes.

Can some one with the proper equipment play this song for me and let me know what frequency is playing at 1:05 in that song (zz top - My heads in Mississippi)

    Thank You

  6. My name is Doug and I am from Peoria, IL.

I found this forum through Steve Meades Youtube videos. His video actually got me intrested in car audio again after a few years that have slipped by :) .

just recently finished my audio install in my vehicle, nothing huge but nice and clean sound with a little bump. This forum is sweet an I will be combing through it for a long time. there are a lot of impressive installs on here and a lot of skill. I will have plenty of question. Nice being here and nice to hear from all of you.

  7. Well its been a while since I have been into car Audio.. back in 1989-1990 I had 2 power series 12's with a punch 150 on each sub in a custom ported box tuned to 35hz and an Alpine MRV F400 for the mids and hi's. That consisted of 2 RF 6" Midbass and RF 4" Mir in each door along with an Alpine 5 1/4 in each door and a pair of Alpine Tweets by the sun visors. This was all in a 1993 Chevy Beretta.

Was out of the car audio when I started to get in to the PC and home theater stuff..but recently I saw a Steve Meade video and I thought it was time to try something again small scale.

So I was shopping around on Ebay looking for a great deal on something to get me started.. I have to say for what I got I think I did a pretty good job...
