I used to hook up my neons to the remote wire from my hu, that way the neon only went on when the system was on

dude, they get hot VERY quickly. take off your pc's cpu fan and see how quickly you can get burnt

ok, what you did wrong was that you wired the subs to 1 ohm.
search on this site for woofer wiring diagrams and youll see a diagram that shows you how to connect your woofers to 4 ohm.

whats the coil config on the subs and at what is your amp stable to?

can be a bunch of things. Was all you did connect the subs?
If so, you prob got the wrong ohm load, if you messed with the amp, check the ground
