Think about people's reactions when they see a 21" sub in your ride!
-
Damn, that 18's gonna tear that Geo apart!!!
Congrats on the hairtrick!
-
From my experience, low tuned boxes 'get pretty loud' (to the ear) and then get killed by 10dB on the meter by some awful-sounding fart box.
First thing is knowing what the vehicle is. But 99% of the time you're gonna want to be burping somewhere from the high 40's up.
That's a better way of putting it.(no need for rudeness, we all have a different point of view for certain things)
Like I said, most people aren't sure on what their vehicle's resonant frequency is, so mid 30's would work in some cases.(also, he didn't mention anything about getting metered for burps or music)
-
Don't fuck with Boon. He knows his shit and you will get pwned. Right in front of everyone.
Chill out! I ain't doubtin em, I just suggested that because most people don't know their resonant frequency and 34hz would get pretty loud and still hit some lows...
-
Ok I'm sorry but the answers in this thread are dumb.
Where did you guys get 34hz from? Out of mid air or the middle of your asses? It's a COMPETITION build. That doesn't mean 'versatile daily driver box' it means 'as loud as possible at all costs' box.
What's the vehicle and what organisation are you competing in and last of all what's your resonant frequency, roughly.
Without these 3 things it's completely stupid (and irresponsible) to try and suggest a box.
Ok genius, let's hear your suggestions...

OH FUCK, WE'RE STILL ALIVE!!!
ROFL!!!
-
Cool, let us know how it sounds!
-
^^^^
that sounds like a bad ported box- they are much less forgiving than sealed boxes.
-Drew
Or a bad 12, box was 2cu.ft. @30hz, no 90*s....
-
the acoustics of a speaker are the same whether it is recommended for sealed or ported (the physics behind sub range speakers making waves) but what is different is how the speakers are constructed and designed. A "sealed only" will play ported and vise versa but that is not what the drivers were intended to do so in theory a properly designed woofer will out perform another if placed in the right environment alone. Hence the commonly said, "Install > Equipment"

I'm kinda gettin it now.....it's kinda like when I had a 12" audiobahn and it sounded great in a sealed box, then I removed it and put it in a ported box and it sounded horrible, didn't even hit lows....
-
well thats kind of like saying "if amps can clip, why do they hey a gain?" you can do anything wrong and get bad results but then there is a right way to do things that wont give you problems.
That's true....I've made plenty of ported enclosures and never had any problems with the way the set ups sounded...except one...
-
lol no. cancellation is when 2 sound waves "fight" each other.
Well yea, I get that part, but I still don't get how some subs are only recommended for ported enclosures if cancellation can occur...
Sorry for all the questions..
And thanks for all your responses, still learning as ya'll can see!
-
The rear wave also causes cancellation. 4th order ftw.
Doesn't that only happen when subs that are recommended for sealed enclosures are placed in a ported enclosure?
-
could you explain it to me, i know about the whole more cone area is louder thing, but a ported enclosure uses both sides of the cone and i read (on the dd audio website i think it was) that it's basically a 2 for 1....
-
Does 1 properly ported sub equal 2 sealed?(same size subs of course)
-
You can't wire dual 1 ohms @ 1 ohm...
it's either .5ohm(parallel) or 2ohms(series)
-
media tags ftw!
my bad, i just put the link instead!haha!
-
-
took the words right outta my mouth lol
lol!
edited with even better specs!
-
Try 1.5cu.ft.(after displacements) @34hz with 25sq.in. of port (no 90*'s)<br>
-
Nice thanks!
And can anyone tell me anything about the port? Is it big enough? Enough volume in it?
Tuned to 32hz was what I was trying to shoot for.
Port area is good too, as long as it's not too small you're good....the bigger the better(in some cases) I made a box for a swapmeet 10" tuned to 29hz, but my port area was 17in.sq.(way too big for the sub) and it hit lows as well as mid bass,up to 65hz, just as good!(you know how they say tuning low sacrifices higher freq. Bass)-just thought i'd share this with ya'll...

ok thanks for the fast replys
and can you guys tell me if i would have enough to pull a hair trick with 4 12s, 3000watts, subs up, port back, and tuned at 34hz
thanks in advance
Pretty sure it would be enough, a guy at a local shop has an expedition with 4 12's on 3200 watts & you could feel the air moving with the passenger door open...[subs up, port back]
-
yes i have 4 12s (soon to upgrade to 6)
ok so ill do subs up port back but whats should i tune it to cuz i like it where it just shakes the shit out of the car and all the cars around me ha so what would be best
LOWS! 34hz should do the trick...!
-
it's actually 5.47cu.ft. @32.12, not much of a diff.(re's calculator is a little bit off)
the max vol. is 6, min. is 3, so you'd be fine with this box...
should i??

That's what I'm sayin, if people already look like they're gonna shit their pants seein an 18", a 21" would actually make it happen!
