  1. You are correct sir. Your intelli-q is your bass boost. The issue you have having is clipping. The muiltimeter will tell you nothing about clipping, you will need a o-scope to make sure you are not clipping. What are your intelli-q and settings on you hu? You issue from the information you provided seems to be with clipping. As others have stated, turn down the gain on your amp to solve this issue. If it's not loud enough for you then thing in purchasing another sub.

Thank you for the info. Intelli-q is down all the way and settings on hu are sub +15,bass -4, treble 0, mid 0.

  2. Ok guys I have an 18 inch Fi BTL Dual 1 running off of an orion hcca d5000. When I play it at full blast for maybe 1 minute, the dustcap gets hot and it starts to smell a bit. At full blast my voltage drops to about 11.5 volts. i just set the gain with a multimeter and it still gets hot and smells. Also, the amp does not even get warm when it happens. any ideas?

    thanks in advance.

  3. Today I was on my way home to finally install my second battery and im bumpin pretty hard and for the first time, my amp starts to let off this awful smell. I also noticed it was pretty hot. The amp is an Orion HCCA D5000 and its pushing an FI BTL 18. The gain is all the way down on the amp and the sub level on the head unit is on -3 with no bass boost. So, I just went on and installed my second battery when I got home and turned it up and theres the smell again. Then, I opened the amp to see if anything was messed up inside, and everything seemed fine. Like I said today was the first time its ever done it and Im starting to get frustrated. Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.

  4. i got a D5000 amp too lol.. i ran it with only 1 4ga. in it too for a lil bit... but yea.. get another 4 ga in there... hows your electrical? got voltage drop?

    Update on 1st post!

Blue is 0ga. power, and Silver is 4ga. ground. I get some pretty nasty voltage drop right now, Im still waiting on a second batt.. Idk if it happens to u but my d5000 shuts off when voltage dips too low.

  5. here is my rant about what i know.

from what i understand, the fuses between the front and rear batt are to protect from shorts. for example, if there is a bare piece of metal on the ground and it cuts your run between the batts, the fuses will protect your batts from shorting out and exploding/damaging the batt, amp, equip, etc... thats the reason you have to have one before each batt. if the short happens in the middle of the wire, then both batts will be affected and both need to be protected.

as for the fuse before the amps, if the amps have fuses in them, then you dont "need" to add an extra fuse cause the amps already have that protection necessary. if the amp doesnt have any fuses, then it is recommended to protect your equip.

when you have both batts connected, your music should only be taking power from the rear batt. if you have your music on and you connect a dmm to the front batt and see that the voltage drops, then you know that it is taking from the front and the back batt isnt sufficient to keep up with the demands. thats the reason why people always say to put the biggest batt in the back (so it doesnt affect the front batt)

and as for grounding the amp to the back batt, its ok to do so. and if possible, do a run of 0/1 neg from front to back batt and connect the amp to the back batt. it will give the back batt and amp better connectivity. if you cant do the extra run, then just ground the rear batt cleanly and connect the amp to the batt. you dont want to be drilling alot of holes to the frame of your car..

if anything is wrong, please correct me for i am learning to. kthanksbye :)

edit: ^ lawls. i like that diagram

Dont mean to thread jack, but would I still be able to wire it like this if im using a duramax batt up front and an optima batt in the back?

  6. Yo whats up yall. I'm new to the forum and I figured I would throw my system up on here. I'm running on all stock electrical besides the big three and a yellow top up front. I should be upgrading that soon so be on the lookout. I have one quick vid to put up today, but I'll probably put 1 or 2 up tomorrow once my good cam charges.
