  1. Give the guy a break. You can't just assume it was his fault because he blew an almighty DC woofer. And the AQ clip light is pretty damn accurate, even overly sensitive at times. I guess if the clip light is bs, then the SMD distortion listener must be crap too since they both seem to operate on a similar premise.

To OP, contact rusty. He's a great guy and he'd be more than willing to help you.

  2. I along with a lot of other people on this forum love AQ. :peepwall: The AQ3500 would be a solid choice and you can get one for around $400 shipped. They are extremely solid amps that can be wired to real low impedances(if you know what you're doing) and are usually a good bit cheaper than RF. If you're running 4 18's I'd just run 2 strapped AQ3500's. As others have said, you will definitely need a stout electrical to support this kind of equipment.

  3. A couple people told me to report back with results once I got it installed. I have to say that I am very impressed. I have only deadened the trunk lid and I can already tell a noticeable difference. It makes the lid feel like a vault door lol. I still need to do the rear deck, idk if I'm going to do the entire trunk yet though. Oh and this is my first time to ever purchase or install deadener of any kind and while tedious, it was extremely easy. Here is my excuse of a review/install video for those who care to watch :peepwall:

  4. I ordered a 25 sq ft roll of audio technix and it should be at my doorstep by tomorrow. I've heard good stuff about it and it's thicker and cheaper than SS Damplifier(not trying to hate on an SMD partner). Hopefully I'll have it installed by the weekend, if anyone cares I'll post results.

Nope not hating at all. In fact let me list the comparison of the two products :)

    Audio Technix

    60 mils thick

    4 mil foil (silver)

    $2.12 a sq. ft.

    Damplifier

    40 mils thick

    6.5 mil foil (black)

$3.50 - 2.68 a sq. ft. (depends on how much you purchase)

Damplifier is .02" (1/50th of an inch) thinner but the biggest difference is the thicker/stiffer foil of the Damplifier. When the stiffness of the foil accounts for 70%+ of the damping... I would rather have a thinner mat with a thicker foil any day of the week.

And again not hating on Audio Technix. Their product is one of the few that I would recommend instead of Damplifier because it's a butyl product and not asphalt filled, something that very few in the sound deadening field can say.

canderton01, yes people post some results when you're finished. I'd love to see them!

    Later,

I really appreciate the way you present your product, and how you present fair comparisons while not just blatantly hating on competitors just to try and sell your products. Hopefully I'll have more money later this summer and I'll definitely consider getting some Damplifier for my doors, etc. I'm just kind of tight on money right now and I ordered a roll of Audio Technix to try out in my trunk because I got it at their introductory price. And yeah I'll definitely try to get some before/after videos when I get it installed. :drink40:

  5. Pioneer makes great units but beware, if you plan on using it with any iOS device(iPod Touch, iPhone, etc.) you may have minor annoying issues with the infamous "Error - 19" code. Something with Pioneer's firmware doesn't always agree with iOS and it will often times throw that code. This isn't an issue if you set it to control via iPod instead of on the deck itself or if you just use the aux input through the headphone jack(not as good of a connection though), but still kind of annoying. It does it a lot with my 7200HD and apparently it's a common problem with a lot of Pio models. And we know how Pioneer is with updating their firmware <_<

  6. So you're running 2 12's and a 13''? Mixing sub sizes normally isn't a good thing unless you really know what you're doing(never run them in the same enclosure at the very least). And your subs "buzzing" on certain notes could be your amp sending them a clipped signal causing distortion. Be sure you have your gains set right. I also wouldn't really recommend running two different impedances on the same amp.

  7. as usual, wayyy to many variables. First of all, you could install yourself and save a good amount of coin. Do you plan on purchasing equipment from a shop? Or buying your own stuff and having a shop install it? Or having a buddy install it? What size subs? etc. For everything you mentioned, I'd say expect to spend at least $2k for a halfway decent system unless you plan on buying used.
