  1. The subs are D4, so they'll wire down to 1ohm. The amp will do around 750 at 12v, the 1kw rating is at 14.4v.

As mentioned you won't necesarilly need full power from the amp which can be a good thing, but I'm betting the subs will take full power.

I run 3x RMS on my HDC's with no problems and have run 900watts daily on the SDC2.5's.

  2. Well i really see no point to having a gain knob when you get your gains set properly, that's why I don't want one because I don't want to mess with my gain once it's set. That's why I want a bass knob for the boost, I got a demo from Kranny who has 2 DC lvl 3 12's on a AQ1200d with a bass knob and that shit went nuts when he turned that knob up.

Kranny's AQ1200 has a bass gain knob with clipping indicator. NOT a bass boost knob.

And how is it that I've seen Kranny at 3-4 shows this year and I've never heard his set up yet you have :angry2:

  3. smelling sound when driving around is your voltage dropping and the signal is clipping. You fuel pump/injectors/ignition, etc... are drawing more current and your electrical can't keep up.

Try shrinking down your port area some and see if that helps. Some scraps of wood or whatever. I've seen this same issue with RD subs a while back and that helped the problem.

You need to hit up some local shows. Sept 11th there's one in Elgin I'll be at...

  4. Why not just go for two better bigger subs (cheaper) I'd go with obsidian audio oa12's. I love my pair

Did you even look at what speakers he was talking about? I'm guessing no since they're midranges, not subs.

OP how much power are you giving them? I run Seleniums in my set up and they sound good and get very loud.

How do you have them crossed over? Proper HPF/LPF will let them take more power, sound better, and get louder

  5. what is your goal for this set up? what kind of music do you mostly play?

HDC will work in that size enclosure, but tuning is too low to get the most out of it.

BL will be more bottom heavy, so if you mostly listen to low stuff that might be a better choice. It might also be boomy on rock and other music, so that might take some EQ work.

The HDC has a tight punchy sound and isn't boomy on the low end which some call hollow sounding compared to other subs. They will play low like any sub out there, but they aren't low end monsters.

I've had a 15" Q in the wife's car for about 4 years now, so I've heard it on every type of music. It hits hard on rap, but I prefer the HDC for rock, hip hop as her set up is a little boomy IMO.

Not sure how the BL would do in an enclosure that big, might reduce power handling some and make the bottom end even more pronounced.

If possible try to get out and hear both subs and see what you think...
