I'd have to go with the bigger end with a low tuned port, sealed boxes just rob you of SPL so don't even think about those =P

dude, it may be a little car, but the trunk in it is MASSIVE. I have 48" wide, 22" deep, and 19" tall (11.6 cuft) to work with without making an odd shaped box.
EDIT: If you take into account wood thickness, make that around 9-10cuft. I'm also realizing that an 18 wont fit the way I want, so i'm thinking of 2 15s instead. luckily for me the air you need for 1 18 is the same for 2 15s

Well I'm currently running two 12's with 1.5cu ft each powered by a US Amp md1d and am wanting to get DC's but before i do i want to make sure it'll match up right or if any upgrades would be needed. I would like to get the lvl 3 12's but is 1200w going to be sufficient? Thats what the amp is rated and I'm not sure if its underrated or not. And the box is already made so 1.5cu ft is the most i can get right now. By the way, my current 12's are cvr's, so if anyones had cvr's then dc's is there a huge difference? The cvr's don't pound enough for me anymore. Also, stock batt and alt.
Thanks.
is that 1200w rms? and at how many ohms? The level 3's are rated for 600w rms so, 1200w rms would be more than sufficient
-
XL all the way, especially considering your almost 2x the rms of the LVL4, jacob has tests with the 1200D putting out ~1900wrms
Get the XL
yeah, but he did tests with conditions that i'll never meet. Realistically i'll be pushing 1500 tops
http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...showtopic=50753 and this topic shows him pushing 1770wrms

actually i can fit a box that's 11.6 cu ft with a height of 19" in there, with room to spare, so 2 18"s could be a possibility later on =]
-
nah that's alright, I understand where you're coming from though. If i were getting 12"s that would work out amazingly.
-
or you could get the lvl 4 now. bang away and when you get money get your electical upgrades
then when you want more get another lvl 4 and 1200
its no fun to wait for new bass
you do have a very good point there, plus the money i save by getting a level 4 over an XL could go towards the electrical. Two 18"s could never fit in my car though, my trunk is a decent size, but i don't think i could fit a box that's 12cuft inside without taking out the back seat. box wise i'm also thinking sub facing front, port facing back/trunk, since my trunk rattles really bad and will absorb some dB, and i can just open the arm rest and there'll be a nice hole for the 18 to plow through.

x2, on Db r Audio Sundwon Internetdealers, have an refurbished B-Stock for 215 $ in offer, Easy way to make it big.
Oh yeah does does sound good, but before I can get a second amp, i'll need a new alternator and additional battery. So i'll have to do that down the road when I have more money
-
yeah i eventually do plan to upgrade my amp later down the road, maybe in 6 months or so, so it looks like i'll be getting an XL =] thanks for the opinions guys.
now, to email rusty
-
oh yeah i'm definitely sure the XL has more performance, but like Ih8tpunkrok up there, I don't think it's enough power. I don't know if an underpowered XL would give me the same results as an over powered 4. I know the SAE-1200D is underrated just as these subs are.
-
Right now i'm running on an SAE-1200D and these puny little 12" subs and I thought it would be a good time to upgrade =] I just wanted some opinions on which would work better, since im not sure if the 1200D will satisfy an XL. what do you think?
-
dude you need to at least have big 3 and 1/0 positve from your battery to the amp. if not you're gonna fry it
I'm not pushing it very hard with the lower power, so I don't see how it's going to fry. It's still getting a good amount of power regardless. Like I said though, I plan on upping it soon.
I mean I could be wrong, please correct me if Iam
-
sweet did that end up fixing the problem ? still asking what you electrical looks like and what it consist of... very nice amp though
Yes it did fix the problem =]
I'm still running on stock battery and alternator. With 4 gauge wire to the amp, and amp to ground. Big three has not been upgraded. I'm planning on upgrading everything in the future.
-
The gain is about halfway up and the bass boost is all the way up. I'm going to go play with it some more and get back to you.
and I have 4 gauge rockford wire for power and ground, I would switch to 0 AWG, but seeing how the SAE-1200D is rated for 600W at 2 ohms and these subs are rated 400W. I'd rather not blow them since sundown amps are usually way underrated =P
Yeah, so it turns out, somehow the gain and bass eq were all the way up, thanks for the help guys =]
-
How much pre-out voltage do you have and where are the gain and bass boost set ?

So I got this baby in the mail and it just made my not my day, but even my week =]
the only thing is though, I'm having this issue where it keeps cutting out (protect) when i turn my headunit up past 20/50 when the song hits hard =[ any ideas?
-
basic electricity man. running two things with equal resistance in parallel halves resistance of the circuit, and doubles it in series
-
Good deal, thank you =]

**NOTE: This item currently has a 7-10 Business Day wait before shipped, but is availible for purchase. Your amp will be shipped 7-10 Business Days after your order is placed and paid for.
that is if you bought refurb
Yeah I bought it refurb, they also sent me an update early last week saying they'd be shipping friday or early next week (which is now this week.) They seem pretty busy though. I'm sorry i'm just so anxious for this amp to get here
-
I purchased an SAE-1200D from them about 8 days ago, and i haven't heard from them in a while, should I be worried or do you think they're just backed up? and how fast do they usually ship?
Does anyone know what to do about a red ring of death?
