  1. So, I recently picked up this 2013 Subaru BRZ. Decided I wanted to protect it, so put on a clear front bra as soon as I could. For the rest of the car, I heard about this product called opticoat. In short, it amounts to basically putting a layer of resin on your paint. Permanent, and quite glossy. Sheds water well. But, since it is so permanent, your paint needs to be absolutely perfect before you apply. So, heres what I did.

Here was my starting point. Quite good as you can see

And perhaps the best, a video of some stuffs

So far Im pretty happy. If it holds up as well as it is supposed to, ill continue to be happy.

  2. Haha who cares about overproduction, I'd love driving one even if everyone on my street did the same.

True. Plus more people with them means cheaper and more plentifull aftermarket parts.

I've been wanting one since the preproduction example came out years ago. Sweet ride!

    Thanks!

That's one sweet ride you got man! Whats the rear leg room looking like?

    Thanks!

With my normal seating position (im 5' 11") there is about 4 inches behind the front seat. To make matters worse, the seats are so low there isn't room for your feet under them so you have to turn them sideways. I tried sitting behind my gf in the passenger seat and it is possible, definitely not comfy though. Luckily, I didn't buy the car for the back seats, lol.

  3. instantanious jealousy has overwhelmed me....i have wanted one since b4 they came out....... supposedly they handle VERY nicely..... at some point they were gunna offer some sort of forced induction but i think they wanted so see how it would run first........

    CONGRATS!!!

    should be a great car

Surprisingly enough I didn't know about them for all that long. And I got super lucky getting this one.

    Anyways, more pics as promised:

  4. Anything going in it? Very jelly of you, I would do like an SQ kind of system to prevent weighing the car down.

Maybe at some point. I stll have a year of college left and even though I'm the one paying for it, my dad is trying to put his foot down on no "boom box" because my typical ones flll the car. (that probe at one time had 2 18's, now only has one) Im going to be selling lv4 18, but I still will be keeping my AQ2200. Id love to put it in, but having something to power with it might be hard, cause as you said I don't want to add a lot of weight and Im also not wanting to fill up the little bit of storage space it has. However, where the rear speakers are is a pretty large space. Im going to try to see if some 8's or maybe 10's could fit back there. Might be able to hide them back there and not have my dad complain too much as long as he doesn't see me tearing apart the car to install it.

Not sure if the alpine w900bt will be going in or not, the stock radio is pretty good. Unless I got the imprint as well its probably not worth it. Haven't messed with it yet a ton so we will see.

160 mph speedometer is pretty sweet.

Lol, yea I like it, its just at a weird position for normal driving. However, I almost never even look at it because the digital one is more obvious.

    Sexy

    thx

Nice. I'm looking forward to picking one up, maybe next year. Let me know how you like it.

So far I like it a lot. The interior is perfect for what I want, though I do have the upper model. I might take some more pics here in a bit. Has great response. Haven't thrashed it too much yet.

i thought this thread was going to be of a hifonics amp. turned out to be something way better. congrats.

    Lol, thanks

  5. is it 80db is .001w? i read it as, we use .001w to make 80db when we yell. it says all energy is constant so 50w to a speaker should lead to 50w worth of energy leaving the cone. again, i could be very wrong but thats the way i read it. ill look at it again later.

just to get the sentence here:

"The average human yells at about 80 decibels, which carries along with it about .001 watts of energy..."

Since it "carries" it along with it 0.001 watts, that is all that is there, in the air. There is no way to put 50 watts to a speaker and have it all go to a glass of water or similar. First of all, you will lose most of the power in the speaker, largely to heat, etc. I don't know how to do the math, nor do I want to go find out, but judging by the 0.001 watts from 80dB, say a very good case scenario you have enough power in the sound waves to be considered a full watt. Now focus this at a glass of water. Can you still hear the speaker? Yes, so not all of it is going to the water. Considering how well sound bounces off large bodies of water, almost none of it gets absorbed I would guess. Even if you did get that full watt into it, using their math, it would take 52000 seconds to heat your "coffee" or whatever. (well over half a day) since this is way longer than the rate at which it would loose heat, etc.

However, feel free to try it.

Especially the second one, that sounds fun if it works.

  6. Don't want to be down on trying or anything, but keep in mind your 50 watt speaker won't actually be giving 50 watts to the water. If you check their calculation, they say 80 db will be something like 0.001 watts. even considering how many times louder your 50 watt speaker will be, you are still putting only a fraction of a watt into the water, best case scenario, according to their calculation. I don't feel like doing it myself. The water will cool due to its surroundings faster than your speaker will heat it up. Similar situation to our loud stereos not causing the cars to go up in a fireball even when say, 30k watts are being thrown around.

second one could be fun, you just might have to play around with tuning.

  7. Spent most of the day finishing taking stuff off two cars so they could go to the scrapyard. Here is the almost finished box for the gf. Got one more cote after this to smooth stuff out, just a textured paint, I like it.

    IMAG1275.jpg

Put my old alpine in her car.

    IMAG1276.jpg

For lack of a better place to put it, put the box in the probe to see how it would fit. Just barely does so, perfect.

    IMAG1277.jpg

Dirty car from college life, but whatevs.

    IMAG1278.jpg

Tossed in the unit to see how it would look. As stated ill be putting the trim on it eventually, and probably modifying the panel a bit.

    IMAG1279.jpg

    Lots to do tomorrow.

  8. Lost my router so had to rely on a jig saw. Here is partial progress, forgot to take a picture of the finished port.

    IMAG1242.jpg

Also forgot to mention Im also doing a smaller build for the gf, single 12 in a sealed box on about 150 watts.

    IMAG1243.jpg

    The port.

    IMAG1244.jpg

12" box inside the 18" box

    IMAG1247.jpg

Box mostly together and port in.

    IMAG1250.jpg

Painted the parts of the port that might be hard to get to later.

    IMAG1251.jpg

Forgot to take pics with the top on, but due to the thin top I didn't want to screw the corner, so decided to "clamp" it with a nice 100lb bag of sand.

    IMAG1252.jpg

Then threw another on for good measure.

    IMAG1253.jpg

  9. Ive been running a tline on about 150 watts to an old alpine 12" for a while now. As stated, does well on low power, but also as stated, you are probably best looking at something other than a tline if you are concerned about space. If I remember correctly my box came out close to 4 cubes, just for one 12.
