  1. it was an impulse question...Didn't know how much lower fs gets after breaking in as I've never measured t/s before and after.

as far as why, lowering fs allows more gain at lower tuning frequencies. Tuning lower than the sub's FS tends to drop average port gain. 36hz isn't bad, I'm not opposed to tuning it around that, but having a lower FS would allow me to play around with tuning lower without sacrificing as much output.

    Thanks.

  2. Matt inspired me =] heres a pic of the first frame out of the mould

oh man!!!! that is so SICK! SO SICK!

On a side note, it's really awesome to see a company as in touch with their customers as yours! To go directly to your customer base and ask US what we want instead of just guessing and throwing something out there.

Stuff like this is what makes me such a proud owner of DC Audio products!

  3. There will always be haters. Very few people have made significant contributions to the car audio community. You have made multiple. I think the DD-1 (and to a slightly lesser extent the CC-1) are HUGE advances in the Car Audio world. Yes, there were other ways to do it before, but these are affordable and easy to use. This forum is another huge contribution, when I got back into car audio recently, I searched around and checked out multiple forums to find which one is the best/has the most information and activity as I do with any hobbies. (I am big into computers and Nissans too). This is the site I landed on.

It actually surprised me, generally the largest sites for a given hobby are the most general, i.e. I am really only active on nico (http://forums.nicoclub.com/). The reason being, is that after researching various things, almost 99% of the time, the information's origin was nico, regardless of what other forum I came across it on. I'd say in general the same thing is true here. To start your own forum and have it be this successful is a HUGE accomplishment.

I don't know you personally, and yes, I have ran across people that hate on you, but I have also ran across people who talk nothing but great things. In a perfect world, these people that don't like you for whatever reason, would at least respect you enough to not talk shit. But it's the way it is, just gotta keep your head up and blow off the bullshit.

Keep up the awesome work, and thanks for all of your contributions!

  4. Some MJ Thriller FTW

Funny story, that's the song my friend and I were listening to the first and only time I've gotten pulled over for loud music...were cruising around after finishing a 24hr computer gaming marathon, had no idea what time it was, thought it was like 10pm or something but ended up being 3am. Had the system pegged with all the windows open playing Thriller down a main drag that turned into residential.

Cop said he could hear us from 2-3 blocks away (system wasn't insane, but it was decent, 2-3 blocks was probably a combination of ours as well has his windows being down and it being so late that it was pretty quiet out). Thought I was high because I had blood shot eyes and was kinda out of it. I had a hard time covincing him it was from gaming not drugs lol. When he came back from his car he was really nice, told me to keep it down and be more aware of the time. Got off with a warning and a good story. It's fun when people ask me if I've ever been pulled over for loud music and I get to tell them "ya, once, was for listening to MJ too loud".

So sad to see Rob taking a jigsaw to my dustcap

This is what it takes to get a CF cone off of the coil. So sad.

CF cone cleaned back up and ready to go.

What kind of glue is used for the dustcap to cone? wouldn't it be possible to pry it really carefully off or use a different type of glue so that it could be removed without damaging either piece? Just curious

    nice!!! Looks brutal!

  5. Low notes use more power, that's all I know. You could start drawing conclusions about how this might cause you problems from that alone but I'd test more. Back the gain off and see if the problem persists with the same track.

Pretty sure low notes don't always use more power. You use the least amount of power at your tuning frequency because that is where the impedance is the highest. 28hz shouldn't be too bad tuned to 30hz. My voltage always dropped the most at 45ish hz when I was tuned to 34 because the impedance was the lowest. Aaaam I wrong?

This is basically correct. I believe that the farther away from tuning frequency, the less box rise you have. Less box rise = lower impedance, lower impedance = amp puts out more power, amp putting out more power = amp drawing more power.

A while back I had my 15" lvl 5 wired to 1ohm (had 2 dead coils) on my AP30001D (2ohm stable). Box was tuned to 36hz, but due to the sub having 2 dead coils, the throw was limited and it would peak at 43hz. I clamped the AP at 43hz and it was putting out 3011w, I had voltage drop due to issues that have since been fixed, but either way, it was at around 11.5v and impedance was around 2.5ohm. I had to turn my low pass filter down to 50hz instead of 80hz because when it would hit the higher notes (55+) it would kill my voltage (lights would dim, sub would start stinking on songs that had a lot of bass at these higher frequencies, etc.). I never noticed the same with lower notes, but I'm sure it's somewhat there, but my guess is that since my box was tuned at 36hz, it kept imp rise in check until the extreme lows and I never ran those low notes at full tilt (30hz or lower) because excursion would get out of hand well before I had any voltage issues.

edit: once I get myself a good clamp meter, I plan on doing some measurements on various boxes/subs to see what the results are. I'll make sure to post the results.

  6. hes only talking about the basket i would like to see the split spiders on other subs as well

will suck to have to buy a pallet of new subs to trade up from my m2's but I WILL

my bad, misunderstood your post. My guess is the answer will be the same though...I really hope they end up being available though!!

A pallet of these things would be an epic win for sure.

On another note, these may be sexy enough to require a plexi window or inverted mounting :D
